One of the best shows on TV, hands down...

Claire Danes, Damian Lewis, Mandy Patinkin, & David Harewood are AWESOME on this show!!!

And it's only getting better by the episode...

    Anybody else on this?

    Best show on television?
Apparently you've never seen Knight Rider and the awesomeness that is "The Hoff" in his prime...pre-alcoholic stage...and it has a talking Trans Am.
    What more can be said....

    but I digress...

I've watched Homeland a few times and found it to be implausible, what with a CIA operative with bi-polar disorder, I'm thinking in the real world she would never get past the vetting process in obtaining a Top Secret security clearance.

Only on televsion would this occur, it's simply implausible.

    It's awesome...

    You won't be disappointed...

If you limit what you enjoy to the real world, or what's plausible, things would probably get pretty boring, pretty quick...

Take your example of Knight Rider...

    Entirely implausible...

    Still enjoyable...

To each his own, but, IMO Homeland is a great show...

I don't think it is actually, I mean its a risk because someone like that could easily become a double agent but at the same time being a CIA operative does take a certain kind of personality. If you look at some of the biggest traitors or most famous spies in US and British history their personalities weren't exactly normal...

An SSBI or single scope background investigation, required to obtain a Top Secret security clearance...is quite extensive. This character's disorder would have been vetted..and she would have been denied.

    Period.

She didn't have a presription for her bipolar meds...

Her sister gave them to her, so, it's entirely possible, under the right circumstances, that she could've hidden it...

Either way, TV & movies are there to escape reality...

    Loosen up...lol

I recommend "The Manchurian Candidate" if you like this sort of brainwashing theme employed in Homeland. There are of course many shows, like "The Walking Dead" which require a suspension of reality...however Homeland best works in the context of could this really happen. Being somewhat familiar with the process involved with MBI, SSBI and SSBIPR to obtain and maintain a clearance...they go back a minimum of 10 years and examine many facets of a person's life. One missed utility payment raises a red flag, for example. They interview contacts, family members, etc. I'm sorry but I found the notion of hiding bi-polar disorder to be beyond the pale, given the show's reality based premise. Clearly the character was given this disorder to further the dramatic aspects of the show, but it does not mirror the reality.

By all means, enjoy the show if you like it, I'm merely giving an opinion.

Of course it doesn't mirror reality, but, entertainment rarely does so legitimately...

But, like I said, to each his own...

You're in the service...say a show involved, oh I dunno, an aircraft maintainer...your field of expertise. Say this character employs a procedural method that you know full well, a "real" maintainer would never do. Maybe he salutes with a limp wrist, his protocol is all wrong. 99% of the audience wouldn't catch it, but you did and it would bother you.

Obviously I'm not a CIA operative but by instilling in this character, a psychosis, I had trouble buying into the functionality aspects of job performance and how she ever got past the vetting stage to even be a CIA operative. Maybe the character is already on administrative duty and assigned a desk with limited access to classified data I don't know, perhaps then the plausibility might be there. I just did not buy into the genuiness of this character and it prevented me from further suspension of belief and getting immersed into the storyline. I kept thinking, how was she vetted, did they miss this aspect of her character, she hides it, ok...what about on-going drug testing, surely that would reveal prescription narcotics.

I never bought into the premise from the get-go.

But, I, in fact, know some aircraft maintainers who don't quite "fit the mold..."

It wouldn't really bother me, except that it'd be REALLY boring...lol
