Who is a "Patriot"?

I've always loved that quote.

And I think no time is more perfect than the current when discussing today's crop of MAGA republicans.

It was said by Samuel Johnson, a notable English writer, on April 7, 1775. The full context of the quote indicates that Johnson wasn't condemning patriotism in itself, but rather criticizing those who would claim patriotism merely to cover up their misdeeds or justify questionable behavior.

And this marvelous segment of The Today Show, John Stewart engages in massive take down of Trump and his followers claim that they "are the party of patriotism."

It is a work of comedic poignancy and so so true. I know you guys on the right won't watch It.But you really should ---I think you need to watch this.

Now if you disagree state your case.

 

Not all scoundrels are patriots and not all patriots are scoundrels.

I am proud to say that I am a Patriot.

 

Biden defines patriotism as getting vaccinated.

 

Only one correction, John Stewart is on The Daily Show, not the Today Show.

But yes, "Patriotism" has been overused quite a bit by the MAGA crowd and those who peddle merchandise to them. It has robbed the word of its history and meaning to the point of it becoming just meaningless.

 

And what's wrong with that?

 

Stewart wants to suspend the Constitution. He sure as hell isn't a patriot.

 

A lot of people didn’t get vaccinated, does that mean they’re not patriots? Pelosi once said it’s patriotic to protest. And the most far out thing is Biden, of all people, telling us what’s patriotic. While he’s telling us to do our patriotic duty and get vaccinated, he let in millions of untested and unvaccinated illegals in to the country.

 

I see the word patriotism to mean being a conscious decent citizen. I don't see how ignorance of science and medicine makes one patriotic.

 

But not limited to.

A lot of people that couldn't be bothered getting vaccinated showed up to attack OUR Capital 1-6-21, no they aren't patriots or hostages; they're traitors criminals.

TRaitor tRump does it daily, he likes to get one in before breakfast. How much better the world would be without the Constitution and him ruling U.S.

Does slandering Americans you disagree with make you ... a patriot? I don't think so.

Are you serious? You don't know about that? The china virus was around on Biden's first day, right? And that was the day he opened up the border and flew untested and unvaxxed illegals all over the country in the middle of the night. This has been discussed many times on this board.

 

Did he condemn any of that?

If you are unaware of what I wrote then I just don't know what to tell you. If I hunted down links you probably won't read them, and if you did the info would go in one ear, out the other and you would continue to believe it never happened.

 

John Stewart? Meh.

 

Asking if someone condemned flag burning and kneeling is underhanded? I'd say it's more like you don't want to answer the question because as our good friends at blm say, silence is violence, and if you don't condemn something then you support it. But hey, don't take any of that up with me, call your local blm terrorist and ask them.

 

And his definition of Patriotism is unquestioning obeisance to the progressive line.

 

Patriotism means loyalty to your nationality or ethnic community, not necessarily to the legal government of a nation state or power.

For example American patriots opposed the King's governors and armed forces. They were loyal to their particular colony and community. Loyalty to the United States would have been pretty nebulous under the Articles of Confederation.

 

I'm not interested in what you wrote, that would just be another of your circular arguments. I'd like to see some facts to support your claim that President Biden, "let in millions of untested and unvaccinated illegals in to the country."
