What's the point of being competent if you never get into power to do anything? By all means start a thread for 'Who do you think is most competent?' but this is about electability.

Don't underestimate the Clinton's fundraising power? The hysterical anti-Trumpers may not generate votes but they sure can fundraise, Obama got so many donations he couldn't declare them all and had to pay a fine for violating campaign finance laws. .

What's the point of being electable if you aren't competent to do the job?

first i'd like to say that, as a repub , if i never had to hear hillie's voice again, it'd be waaay too soon, she needs to fade away into obscurity, & even that isn't good enough...

that said, mr 'faux mehico' orourke is now owned by the establishment after all the cash they tossed him in his failed coup d'é·tat in texas... makes him susceptible to their wishes & will the prog/libs trust him

imo, sanders lost the faith of his base when he caved at the eleventh hour and no dem will win without that prog/lib base...

biden might be acceptable in the general election, but he'd have to prevail in the dem's primaries, again imo, the prog/libs aren't gonna go for him either

imo, the left will be faced with the same thing we were in '16... choosing the 'best' of the least desirable idiots...

good luck to us all ...

Although I'm a liberal Democrat, and obviously see the world from a very different perspective than you, I wanted to say I enjoyed your post. I enjoyed the thought you put into it, and I particularly enjoyed & agreed with the final line at your closing. Thanks. :)

I also agree with the general analysis you offer for each of the candidates you mentioned. As a "Progressive Liberal" I do find myself feeling toward several of the candidates exactly as you describe. Personally, I would prefer a woman nominee because I feel it's far past time when we should have elected a woman. In the 232 years we've had since the adoption of the U.S. Constitution, we've never elected a woman. That's absurd. Women comprise half of our national population, and are equal to men in every regard I can think of, and superior in some ways. I want to vote for a woman. I think Warren, Harris & Gillibrand are all qualified, and I'd feel comfortable voting for either against Trump. But in terms of the primaries, all have negatives they must confront and overcome. The thing I really like about Warren is her total dedication to reviving America's middle class. No other candidate has that specific goal, and it's one I feel needs & deserves attention.

I like both Sanders & Biden, but agree with your post about their age and their identification with the establishment. I'm a Democrat, and I'm desirous of a candidate outside the establishment. I differ with you in that I want someone more to the left. Right now, at this moment, I'm leaning toward Warren, and I'm encouraged by her reception in Iowa. She also supports a national healthcare system, which I believe is crucial for this country. I'm open to other candidates as well, and will pay close attention to their campaigns.

i woudn't mind having a woman prez, but let's not elect one 'just because' of it...

my main 'beef' with the woman of the left, that are already 'high profile', is with their 'antics & hysteria' episodes that we've actually witnessed from that fateful nite in '16 onward...

    for everyone:
please don't deflect towards the 'idiot in charge' at the moment because it bares no semblance to what we should strive for going forward & it will just derail a decent thread

I see no point in that. He is the first person competent to the job since Theodore Roosevelt.

True... Oprah would definitely be the number one choice......
partly because Oprah would give her opponent some credit for something that he obviously is getting right.

But for the sake of the poll I went with:

    Beto O'Rourke
I've read a fair bit about him even though I am a Canadian.... and he is interesting.

Plus he is from Texas and could be interested in something a whole lot more effective than a Carbon Tax.

What do you think of my Alternative Wall Theory?

Texas got fifty percent of the votes in this poll:

Should Sorek 2 be in Australia or California?

Well, a pretty definitive victory for O'Rourke, interesting to see what happens.

Best candidates for Dems to have a chance is Biden and M Obama. In not sure M Obama has the drive or desire to go for it.

Really? Surely 2016 was a palpable rejection of the Obama legacy?

    Wrong!

Hillary won the popular vote by 3 million.

The BLOTUS was imposed on the nation by GOP voter suppression and Russian meddling.

That is NOT a "rejection" of the Obama "legacy.

Biden and Sanders are too old (plus Sanders would get thumped). Warren is the poster girl for 'ivory tower' and has the political instincts of a house plant. Beto has the buzz, but it may not translate nationally. He might be better staying in Texas & fighting for the other Senate slot, which is apparently more gettable. Would also boost turnout in Texas for House races. Gabbard is no chance & I need to see more of Castro, Klobuchar, Gillibrand (?) and others to judge.

Harris and Brown might be a good combination (not sure which for which slot). Booker could get it done - the Kavanagh hearing won't hurt him with the people he needs to vote for him.

True but irrelevant. It's not just a case of the simple majority, would you be happy for the DNC to increase their majority of the popular vote next time but Trump still takes the Whitehouse? It's a question of the right votes on the right places. I would ask for any evidence of voter suppression by either side and Russian meddling didn't make a jot of difference. what idiot would believe that Hilary runs a child sex ring in a pizza parlour?

Not sure on that one, look at the Kavanaugh effect on the midterms? It might not hurt his current supporters but he needs to win over the Trump voters who were appalled. Plus imagine all the photoshopped images of his head on Kirk Douglas' body?
