Why are many libertarians so brainwashed?

It's no secret to me. I have escaped from your Matrix. The pods mindlessly stuck in trances by believing that the Left is any different from the Right are the suckers you Libretardians should preach to. If your pet patricians were cut off from Daddy's Money, they'd be helpless and would be pushed down where they belong.

Good point. Conservatives buy into Keynesian economics too. They just like big government spending on different things than liberals like big government spending on.

Not at all. They're the sort of big government conservatives that will believe whatever Fox News tells them.

They were both at least middle class. As witnessed by two facts. 1. They were rich enough to be able to afford a PC when a PC would cost $5K or more for a base model. 2. Bill Gates was so "poor" that he dropped out of effing Harvard. I mean really, that's not poor.

    Carl domino
Son of a US Rep. Hardly living in poverty.

In much the same boat as Jobs -- he was rich enough to buy a computer when almost no one else could afford one.

Entertainers are a different thing, either you have a ton of talent at basketball or you don't. Besides which, other than Master P I don't think any of them would count as poverty.

Not true. In order to get the capital to start a business, you need to have money to start with. No one is going to give a welfare recipient's kid startup money. Besides that are all the liscences, and required degrees and the like needed to start a company. You need cash to get cash, and unfortunately since the government is adding to startup costs via regulations, it's a lot harder today than in 1913.

People were poorer back when "one salary was good enough". They went with far less then people do today. Besides, every one has to work to pay the government its tribute.[/QUOTE]

On the other hand, look at this guy
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_E._Birch_(entrepreneur) -- he grew up poor in 1830's and 1840's and ended up living in a mansion because he had the idea to move to California and start a stagecoach line.

    or him
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_D._Hertz
Not even born in America, an immigrant. Had an idea of taxi cabs, and got rich.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adolphus_Busch
How about this guy? Another immigrant who came with an idea and got rich doing it.

    Thomas Edison
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_Edison
Son of a refugee, has idea, gets rich.

That's the point. In the days before regulations became extreme, you could start a company with very little capital. Now, you couldn't. InBev could easily crush AB of the old days because while the startup is trying to build marketshare, they also have to follow all kinds of regulations that didn't exist when the big boys were building theirs. And it shuts out the new guys.

I don't think the backwards misguided hero worship of celebrities should count as "opportunity". Its downright deplorable that people idolize and worship someone as a hero because they can play a game or sing a song, when we have people who put their lives in danger every single day to help and protect others. Other than that...two people out of that list actually MADE something. I don't consider that to be remotely better.

The first 5 made things. How many examples would be enough?

Most people dislike libertarians because we are constantly exposing their hypocrisy and inconsistency, not to mention the illogical nature of their statist religion, so they call us crazy or brainwashed when confronted with the truth of their own moral and intellectual bankruptcy. It's a predictable grade-school-level response.

The welfare kid likely can't even get a job. He can't overcome the minimum wage floor, so he will no likely have an opportunity, at a young age, to learn the meaning of hard work and to apply himself.
