Wet dreams. Drones can be jammed and controlled by hostile forces. Already happened at 2011, when super-duper-secret-stealth-state-of-the-art RQ-170 was taken over and landed by Iran.
And now, after 2 years, China have a copy.

Same for the cost. Heron costs 10 million $ per unit. A-10 and Su-25, which are light years ahead in terms of combat load and survivability, have the same cost.
So dream on, your delusions of greatness have nothing to do with how the things in the world work.

    As per your article.

    - Russian Defense Minister says they are "Way behind"

"This is due to the technological backwardness of enterprises, weak organization of state contract fulfillment and a shortage of skilled personnel," the news agency quotes Shoigu as saying.

    Does this end the discussion?

His operative word being "automated". Automated drones are autonomous. Cant be jammed or controlled by others.

That article was written by an idiot.

Even if Indonesia had the planes all it could do with them is to send them on a one-way mission to Australia for one time. The planes don't have the fuel capacity to reach Australia, do a bombing run, and return to base in Indonesia.

Regarding India, it's simply too far away to be a threat.

The story is simply propaganda to get the taxpayers to fork over money to keep the military guys happy with the latest toys. It's a waste of money for Australia to blow a wad on useless jet fighters. If they want to spend money they should develop some missiles. They only have to make a one-way trip and they can travel tens of thousands of miles.

Helicopters would make more sense than jet fighters.

The field is still young and developing, it will be better and cheaper in the coming years,

Its not just the unit cost but the pilot training and the fact when you lose a Drone its just the machine and when you lose a Jet you lose the pilot as well.

Its not a dream its the future and its coming fast.

They are not "young". Drones exist since 60-th. They will have their niche, scouting and hunting beardies in the mountains maybe. Still not going to replace pilots in the upcoming years.

Don't know who told you, that 55 even exist. There is no Su-55 out there. So why won't you study something on the subject before discussing serious issuses with big boys. On the current level I'd recommend you youtube comments for your....ughhh...valuable thoughts.

Tho, I am not a teacher. So...why should I educate you? You are banned in Google or smth?
Okay, okay, next batch of Su-30 to Indonesia will be in 2013. It is pretty small anyway, Indonesia is not rich enough to have a big fleet of fighters.
Their airforce posess totally 31 fighter jet. Next few years Sukhoi will be busy building stuff for Russian airforce and modernising India's Su-30MKI fleet. That is ~170 in service currently + 100 on order.

That is assuming that we sell the electronics to go with it. We often do not. Or we equip them with electronics of lesser capabilities.

When a country opts to buy F-35's they are not just purchasing a Fighter and Attack Aircraft...they are purchasing a complete and total system that by it's design is capable of destroying anything out of the sky with the exception of the F-22 as well as be able to attack land targets without detection.

Some here have argued cost as well as flight characteristics of the F-35 vs. other aircraft. The thing is this.

The F-35 is capable of targeting and firing missiles at any other aircraft except the F-22 and destroying not only one of the other craft but many. It cannot be detected by any radar or IR-Sensors until AFTER the F-35 has launched it's missiles.

We have heard talk of the Su-35 and it's impressive maneuvering and speed. Against an F-35...WORTHLESS.

We have heard talk of excessive costs which IS JUSTIFIED. Still...if you bought Su-35's or even the Eurofighter...both good planes...again...BOTH DEAD PLANES...before they even KNEW an F-35 was targeting them.

As well the F-35 is designed to be apart of an overall integrated AIR SUPREMACY PROGRAM as in the even an actual WAR broke out....what would a pilot rather be flying?

Would a pilot rather have to fly a craft to target in support of ground forces or attack an enemy weapons system while that enemy radar upon both aircraft and ground is tracking and targeting you all the way from where you took of to target?

Or would a pilot prefer to be invisible?

Just as an example...an F-15C is a much faster aircraft than an F-22 yet in War Games a brace of F-22's...that's two....shot down 12 F-15C's....and an F-15 has NEVER, EVER, in the 3 DECADES it has been flying...NEVER been shot down by another aircraft.

THAT...is what STEALTH brings to the table.

Hasn't the F-22 been defeated at least once by the F-18? I think the answer is yes, but I'm working from recall.
