Can anyone tell me why Russia, in 2005, changed its election system to proportional representation with no represented constituencies.
    Thanks.

Always and everywhere the governmental authorities changes the electoral system to increase power of government authorities. This is the "law of the jungle".:oldman:

    Thanks for your time.
I want to know if Russia changed its electoral system since it is easier to control and manipulate an assembly of law makers that has no commitment to geographically defined constituencies.
Electoral changes do in fact happen but usually to advance the influence of the electorate and not take it away. For example the UK parliament passed a law not long ago that gives constituenc the power to recall thier MP if required.
It seems that with regards to Russia the change of system reflects its reverting back to dictatorship.
Do you think this is true?

Russia does not return back, because she did not go anywhere.[IMG]

The Russian electoral system is changed, but no significant changes since from Lenin's times.
When Lenin was “governmental authorities” it was a dictatorship. Everything else - this is not a dictatorship.
If a "dictator" has been supported by the main part of the population, it is not a dictator. He is a democratic leader.:oldman:

    It is logical?
