Why do men like to kill men? At times of war, many men smile in the anticipation of killing another

You would have to have a human fossil with carnivore teeth. You would also need to show why we have herbivore intestines instead of a carnivore's.

    Good luck with that.

True, why you and I like the other more is the question, and I think they just appease or need of drama better.

More bang for the buck, so to speak, and perhaps natural, as we likely fear death more than fear never falling in love.

    ??

I might learn two things today if you can show one.

I thought those were made of clay. Are you saying lead as a sealer or are you just making a joke or talking of where they use led in the U.S. and will not bother replacing them as the U.S. government likes to keep Americans dumbed down. In this Canadian's view that is.

They used lead for water pipes in in fact the chemical symbol for lead on come from the Latin word for the material plumbum. This is one of many theories for why Rome fell to say nothing of why so many of the later Roman emperor's were complete nut bars.

It’s because of ape and monkey primordial emotional response to perceived threat

You mentioned teraforming Mars. That might not be a bad idea. We could experiment there and possibly get another habitable planet and the knowledge we gained by experimenting on Mars(with no risk to us) would give us better insight on what we can do here, if anything.

Funny question in the OP. I never would have thought to look at it that way. I usually wonder why we don't all kill each other. To me, that's the real question.

@Greatest I am From an evolution point of view, war is absurd. An individual who do war won't spread his own genes further and so should theorically being cast out of the species.

From that consideration, we can draw two hypothesis :
_ Either the behavour for war has for root a more general behavour that benefit the species as a whole.
_ Either war advantages considerably the species that did that.

Paradoxally, war is an "altruist" action. Even if at the first step it seems absurd to call that "altruist", war is almost never fought for strictly personnal gain, but to benefit your own group as a whole (your tribe, nation). I suppose it's the darker side of the ability of human being to sacrifice themselves.

Why do we love war ? I suppose because we have all inside us a death wish, men even much more than women, and a need to be usefull. War provide both : usefullness and our own death.

War under any circumstances should be avoided but is sometimes necessary because man is imperfect and some are easily seduced by evil. Very few soldiers go to war with a genuine thirst for blood, all of the pre conceived notions of glory, even revenge disappear the first time one witnesses combat. To train a man for war you must strip him of his humanity and his sovereignty and convince him that he is a weapon and is expendable, just a cog in a much bigger wheel. Once that is done it is off to war and attrition. Death in war is random but survival belongs to killers, after witnessing so much chaos and carnage the soldier becomes a killer. He kills to protect his brothers with little concern for himself because he has become the machine he was trained to be. There is no joy in what he does but he does it purposefully. He doesn't care about what he does or try to understand it he does it because it is his mission. This is why for those who survive war it is impossible to come fully home. Soldiers are pawns of evil politics, they enlist because they have a strong sense of duty but in combat that is reduced to only his peers. He kills but he doesn't smile in anticipation nor does he love it, he does it because it is the only way out of a situation that he was woefully uninformed about and unprepared for.

I’ve never been in battle. Hell, I’ve never even been in the military. But if someone was coming to invade my country or kill my family, I’d slit their throat in a second.

I’ve said repeatedly I’d volunteer to be the executioner in cases where children were murdered. I’ll flip the switch.

Actually, since mass rapes are quite common in times of war, spreading ones genes is part of war.

I would never be in that position. It’s irrelevant.

I know civilians are killed in war. Many German and Japanese children were killed. That’s collateral damage. But it was better to win World War II and have that collateral damage than to lose that war. A world run by the Nazis and Japanese military wouldn’t have been pleasant.

It depend of wars. Furthermore, there is more effective way to spread genes.

A political leader without rifles & ordnance behind him/her can exert no political will whatever upon the people, and soon is not -- gone by conqueror or gone by those who are stronger within.

A 12-year-old Comanche warrior loved to kill, the more the better, and was able stack his dead high prior to the advent of the repeating rifle. Technology made him mostly obsolete. Many men in the world love to kill and strive to be better at it and achieve more trophies. Killing is the ultimate manly experience.

Right. Either go in and obliterate your enemy or don’t go in at all.

I thought we learned that in Vietnam. Maybe, maybe not.

Beginning with Korea until now we have done all things we should not do, but I'm quite sure we haven't learned a damn thing.

    IOW, it is natural.

Why does our intelligence not override our natural instincts?

And if that is the case, why did we have 20,000 years of relative peace and un-fortified cities under Goddess worship, and only started warring then and for the next 5,000 years up till now?

    Regards
    DL
