why does the god want us to worship it before we die?

if the god of the Bible exists, it is surely a sociopath.
it wants nothing but worship fear from it's slaves.
it hates free will and punishes those who use it.
it demands ignorance and paranoia from humanity.

"Why do they wish this was true?" Heaven - a place of endless praise and adoration, limitless abnegation and abjection of self; a celestial North Korea." -- Christopher Hitchens

The basic reason for Life is survival.

This includes the survival of the species, as a whole.
The Reality is that Extinction is the second death for every species which refuses to adapt to the ever unfolding environment of Reality.

God might forgive the dinosaurs, but they are still gone.

    Reality is His name.

He isn't pretending to be evil, but is evil enough to kill our species if we do not adapt to His Reality.

Isa 45: 7 I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the Lord do all these things.

Since the Age of Enlightenment men have come to recognize Reality exists and is the same for us all.

This evidence establishes he Almighty as a body of Facts which we must explain using Truth, as the mediator and guide to understand it.

"I am the Truth,... the way and the life"... John 14:6

What makes you think He cares about worship in a church? Going to church is a social affirmation of what one believes and a sort of study group about the implications of those beliefs. True worship happens in real everyday life, in the choosing of right action over wrong. Every minute, every day. It would be fair to say that Atheists worship God unthinkingly and unknowingly all the time.

Did I say such a thing as you have inquired about? No! Therefore, any conclusion you may reach that is based upon such a notion as you have suggested is a false conclusion. However, my belief, is my belief just as your beliefs are your beliefs. Now back to the question that you failed to answer: Where did Jesus claim to be 'God' or a 'god'?

I do believe the word I chose was 'hearsay'. Does your computer screen have some sort of defect causing an alteration of letters of certain words?

Who is the "we" that you speak about? I see you noted an exception to those things which cannot be believed and one of those exceptions is "religion". So you do believe in 'religion'? Which religion is your preference? Has your chosen 'religion' manifested any "power", "money" or "fame" for your own benefit? Who are the "psychos" that have taken over the "religious people"?

And your point is what? Little fairy tale scenarios mean nothing.

That christians would mock me or think I am crazy if I believed Thor was a real god. I can't see how me believing in Thor is any less ridiculous than people believing in a god. You can't prove he doesn't exist.

Well, I have to agree with you that Christians should not mock you for your beliefs nor should they think that you are 'crazy'. What they should do IMHO is to simply accept the fact that you hold a different belief and that you think differently than the manner in which they think. Of course, that same reasonable action should be taken by others who are deemed as non-theists when considering the manner in which Theists think and what Theists believe. But some of them don't.

The belief of a deity is of course ridiculous. You all think yours is the right god. But why? Because you're special? It's all a ruse man. To control you. You're devoting your life to a cause that is made up. Talk about not living in reality.

Now you are making an expression that does exactly what you were complaining about with the behavior of Christians. You are saying that their belief is ridiculous yet you complain when they say something similar about your beliefs. Then you go on to include what you believe to be the what all Christians think ("you all think"). How do you KNOW what "all" Christians think? Do you not also think that the secular government is designed to 'control' people? Did you realize that even the 'court' which prosecutes people is also a make believe thing?
    http://books.google.com/books?id=qN...v=onepage&q="court is an incorporeal"&f=false

Talking about not living in reality, consider those who abide by a "court order". The 'Court' cannot order anything, but rather it is the judges who are representatives of the 'Court' which establish the orders. So in effect anyone who abides by a 'court order' is abiding by the demands of other men and women.

How is it Geordi LaForge can figure out a way to boost the Enterprise-D's shields "300%" in one episode....but never again or any subsequent episode or movie?

    Same kind of discussion.

So why churches?....why not simply have a party at somebody's house?

Of two questions asked on the thread, here are my answers-

    1. There would be no need of a "Supreme Being" to "need" worship. None. In fact, It wouldn't need "prayers" either. Either it's a benevolent deity and what it decides to do is benevolent and being "Supreme" needs no encouragement or petition from mere humans......or it's not "Supreme" nor naturally "benevolent" and can only act when humans BEG it to do something good.

But only some childish Greco-Roman or god of antiquity "needs" to be worshipped, as they are depicted as basically just "slightly more powerful and immortal human beings".

    2. It would be IMPOSSIBLE for a person in Heaven to have "Free Will"....by force or manipulation, to maintain the defined aspect and characteristics of a "pure and holy Heaven".....NO sinful act would be allowable...therefore no Free Will could exist.

"They wouldn't want to" is a simplistic answer....if they have no ability to "sin"...they don't have Free Will.

Not at all. Star Trek is accepted world wide by probably all stations in life and through probably 99.99% of all cultures as science fiction. Use proper categorization when attempting to make analogies.

PROVE that Geordi La Forge and the USS Enterprise-D won't exist in mid 2300s?

See how works both ways? :)

Well, the evidence would be found in the mind of the script writers who work for Hollywood and wrote the many episodes. Now can you show PROOF that man has learned the secrets of time travel, as time travel would be required to look into the future unless you are satisfied with using the imagination,,, then there are no holds barred and anything would be possible from that imaginative standpoint. Do you often engage in assessing fairy tales and then require proof of such fairy tales?

I don't think he ever made that claim.
But was crucified for not denying that claim against him.

Did you read this portion of what I stated? "...any conclusion you may reach...."

I'm sorry dairyair. Your post did not specify who the "he" was that you were referring to.. I see upon a second reading that you were not responding to my comments to the other poster but to the original challenge I presented to the other poster. My bad....

Correct. From what I know, Jesus never claimed to be God. But he was crucified for not denying the claim he was God.

So, do you believe or suppose that Jesus was falsely accused?

All I know, according to the story, is Jesus had to be crucified for the prophecy to be fulfilled. I can't state for certain either way if it is true or not.
    IMO, he was falsely accused.
