Workers should be able to decide if they want to work in manufacturing. Currently that decision has been outsourced to tyrants in government. I seriously doubt the 26 million Americans out of work would consider a job in manufacturing a groan.

It's not one or the other - it's possible to have a legal manufacturing sector and still allow people to work in hospitality/tech/etc jobs if they so desire. Just end the price controls and let workers decide as they see fit.

Sorry I mean grown lol. But anyway this is where I feel you are way off. Owners and decision makers decide what jobs are made. Government brought in the manufacturing not the public. They just went to work at what is offered. It's crazy for folks to think they can just dictate what industry they can have make the middle class in America. It's never worked that way. And the truth is starting to hit folks right in the face. A lot of them who were middle class will never be again and some that are will soon lose that status and go into the lower class because the jobs they have will not be around longterm.

When you manufacture goods used by people, you raise their standard of living. If those goods are made by those people, you get a certain standard of living. If you get the same stuff produced, without needing those people ... you free those people to do other things that contribute to the economy and you raise the standard of living even more.

GREAT POINT!!! But only the folks who have the ability and education to do other things that aren't short term work like manufacturing has proven to be. This is the point of the thread. A lot of folks don't realize they were going to have to switch it up, and a lot of folks aren't going to be able to switch it up.

*shrug* If a company can get the same job done, regardless of whether a person 'works' there or not... that person didn't have a job to begin with.

Tell that to phone operators or typing pool workers that raised families by doing it.

You can raise a family while receiving charity same as if you actually earned that support. If what you're doing doesn't make the company more productive... well, call it what you like.
