I don't see any problems with them at all. The Foundation Series, especially Foundation and Earth, was an excellent science fiction novel. The use of psychohistory in the novel allowed the novel take shape that made interesting reading. The other two are not problematic either.

Need to do better than that.

I've been to about 42 countries,; most of them while in the USAF, most of this was pre-internet or dial-up for the most part; so I'd make it a point to visit a library and learn about the country a little bit, with sufficient notice...ideally before I went there.

For those wanting an introduction to a country and wanting to learn a little bit about it, a great starting point is

    https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/

I would have loved something like this.

Why did you have kids if you couldn't afford them? You have 2 cruddy choices because you made one massive failure of a choice when you had a child without being married in a financially and emotionally stable relationship.

    Who's fault is that again?

That's the problem. Not the right. Not the system. Not Bush or Obama or any rich CEO or bank. YOU!!!!! YOU are the problem.

And why is your only choice minimum wage? Who's fault is that? Society's? Rich people? Who's? Why did you do so badly in school? Who are you going t blame?

Nothing like the sanctimonious BS again.

A significant number of persons who are poor, have kids, and working a minimum wage job are the result of divorced women who were either working and their spouse working, or not working while the husband was making the money. In addition, that spouse is not paying child support and taking the type of jobs, and hiding assets, money, etc, from not paying said child support. Others are unmarried who chose to have a baby instead of an abortion.

However, the point that is being made is that there should be a pathway for those who are on minimum wage jobs to learn more job skills to make more money. This is not about more welfare but about more economic opportunities. But then again, next time you make a mistake, perhaps all of your financial and real property assets should be forfeited.

Well, the information was there. They were called encyclopedias LOL.

You have the equivalent of an encyclopedia and much more on a mobile device that can fit in your pocket. It is an incredible feat of engineering to think this all transpired in a few decades.

I don't think younger folks know about the Dewey decimal system and having to go to a place specifically to get information. That CIA website I linked is a lot more than what a Wikipedia article would have on a country or a paper bound encyclopedia.

There is no excuse to be ignorant these days..and I'm not saying you are of course, just in general. It's a question of curiosity. More people can identify Family Guy characters than finding Iraq on a map as an example. There's no excuse for this really...it takes minimal effort to find a map on-line...oh ok, so that's what all the hub-bub is about, so that's where Iraq is. Curiosity is dying, unless it's celebrity related or perhaps Game of Thrones.

I was being sarcastic in my response about the encyclopedias, which is how we did it old school just to get rudimentary information on practically everything.

However, the CIA handbook, although electronic now, was available in certain libraries. It was expensive to purchase, like $300 or more for the book which may be several years behind.

But I do disagree that there is no curiosity. Most use YouTube for their information. Before traveling to a country, check out vloggers of expats who are living in a country. Some are quite good, but it does take some effort to find the right one. Others want the point and click instant information now, which is why we have all those devices.

Most younger Europeans are taught that learning a foreign language is a must, not so with Americans.

Even the most basic information, say identify India on a map...you know where all their jobs are being outsourced.

American youth are for the most part oblivious to what's going on outside of American culture. They are geographically illiterate in many cases.

I have found that depending on where one lived depends on whether or not a person learned more than one language. In my youth, for instance, I was able to communicate in Spanish, Spanglish, Tex-Mex barrio to order food, have a small conversation, ask for directions and understand the answer, and a few other things. I was more apt at reading than speaking, just did not practice it enough. Nowadays, those same neighborhoods, it is not so much because of tech. We have instant translation now on our smartphones and do not have the need.

The point is, in the old days, there was a need, nowadays, there is convenience.

    It's actually subjective.

The taxes in some of these nations like Norway, Finland and Sweden is off the charts.

Living longer is a good indicator of living standards. Americans don't live as long as Britons. But then we have universal healthcare.

I'll admit I was being facetious.
But I dont think there is a country on earth with a better standard of living than the US.
Of course it depends on if you work and are self dependent.

Average lifespan in the U.S. just topped 80.1 years old.

    I know you were! LOL!!

    Remember...we have 320 Million American's.

These nations have very small populations by comparison and 8 months out of the year they just stay home due to the cold.

Not only that, we couldn't produce a true world class fighter plane until we got the Rolls Royce Merlin engines for the P51's

The Rolls Royce engines were already being used in the Spitfire and it was not until their use in the P-51 Mustang and until their use with the Super Charger we installed that they ever truly reached their potential.

Maybe, but the Spitfire was a bad-ass fighter that could hold it's own against the Germans. But the combination of the P-51 air frame with the two stage, dual speed supercharged Merlin's was unbeatable.

Agreed.....the day Hermann Göring saw P-51 Mustangs escorting American B-17's right into Berlin during a daytime bombing raid Göring said...."We have just lost the war."

Uuuum, yeah. Her body, her choice, right? We're NOT talking rape here. We're talking people who choose to have sex, which can or can't get you pregnant, depending on your birth control. Getting pregnant is VERY controllable, for the vast majority, if you didn't' know. We're NOT talking complications here.

The woman chooses to have sex or not. She has all the control. The guy of course is responsible too, but its not his ULTIMATE responsibility. Its HER'S, since its HER body.

YOU are responsible for your own life. If YOU are poor and have kids, YOU are making life harder on YOU and the CHILD. That should be no one elses problem, but it is, because people like yourself think the rest of us should have to take care of the stupid. I believe the stupid should have to account for their own actions. Call me crazy...ooops, I mean RESPONSIBLE and intelligent.

Poor people who have multiple children are horrible people. Irresponsible, evil, selfish people who have no care for the lives they're ruining. And the funny thing is, they're too stupid to even know the damage they're doing and people who defend them are worse.

Yeah but the guy has responsibility as well.
