Why Sally Ride waited until her death to tell the world she was gay

She was with her partner for 27 years...I cannot imagine she made any secret of the relationship for THAT long.

 

I believe that Lilith, the first woman "created" based upon Biblical mythology, might disagree. I believe she's often considered to be bi-sexual and, if nothing else, she was deemed evil because she insisted on equality with men that still seems to be an unacceptable concept with many men. Judeo-Christian culture traditionally looked upon women as being inferior to men and with the wife being property the of the man. The term "missionary position" reflects this "dominance" of men over women in their religious tradition. Many Christians still believe this today which is a primary cause of spousal abuse in America became men believe that it is acceptable to beat their wife like they would beat their dog. They wouldn't beat an equal but they don't consider women to be their equal so they rationalize that it's acceptable but of course it's not.

 

In fact she didn't and it was relatively well known. What she didn't do was go public in the media about it. She didn't figure it was any of the media's business and that was her right.

 

Why does the state need to sanction something people already do without government incentives?

It's like having a draft. More than enough people already enlist, so a draft is redundant.

Marriage is the same way. People get married and have kids without government influence involved.

Perhaps entitled to everything but the name 'marriage' to describe their union.

They don't NEED the name marriage, unless they need it to assuage guilt or to convince OTHERS that homosexuality is a valid and sensible lifestyle.

After all, what's in a word? But if the word is THAT important to gays to have the use of, perhaps that will help the gays understand why the word is that important to straights to KEEP for the reason it was invented.
