I am retired and we have down sized to one car. Even if we could afford it, for us it would be a useless POS since you can only use it around your house.
I didn't suggest that it did as you say. My point was that the people you list above... are conspicuously-quiet, even as Tesla is going through this political and economic gauntlet.
If Tesla was such a great car, it wouldn't have needed a government handout to begin with. You can root for the Solyndramobile all you want, but the market dictates what's successful and what's isn't, not the government.
The market has deemed Tesla a success. It outsold all of Porsche last year and it is just one model, lol.
If you have a Tesla, take hot dogs with you. At least when it catches fire you can roast a weinie while you wait for someone to pick you up.
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but the BMW 5 and 7 series are Tesla's competitor class... and Tesla is kicking their ass. The model S is faster, more agile, and gets 4-5X the "energy" (fuel) economy. Juuuuuuust saying.... - - - Updated - - - Statistically, gas cars catch on fire far more than Tesla. Nice try.
When a $80K vehicle is on your shopping list fuel economy is on the bottom of the "want" list. For the record, I believe that the Tesla S is a gorgeous car with performance to back it up. More importantly, it doesn't look like a stereotypical hybrid (a huge plus) It's still in the baby phase of it's existence so until the public really makes EV's popular enough for the masses I'll stick to V8 power
This is a good point, but some people take pride in not polluting the environment. Plus, the fuel economy lowers the total ownership costs (an $80K Tesla costs about as much as a $60k BMW over time when you factor in fuel savings and maintenance). That's the cool thing about Tesla. It has V8 power.. with no emissions, no engine to give out, no transmission, etc.
