    https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/why-trump-not-biden-might-have-an-enthusiasm-problem/

The article goes on to note that "net enthusiasm" (calculated as the difference between a candidate’s “very favorable” and “very unfavorable” rating) significantly tilts in Joe Biden's favor. There is a larger difference between the people who severely disapprove of Trump and those who severely approve of Trump than the same for Joe.

In fact, Biden's rating - near zero - is pretty much in line with every single Presidential candidate in the modern history. The only candidate to which Trump can point to as being comparable for his -23 point deficit is Hillary Clinton.

Trump is also the only modern Presidential Candidate in US history to see his disapproval ratings poll this poorly four months before his re-election. He is currently worse than George H.W. Bush and Carter when compared against this same point in their Presidencies.

Since 1945, no President has ever been re-elected with less than 50% approval ratings.

The exception is Bush 43 (48%).

    Trump is at 40.4%.

He has lost 7% voter support everywhere, even in the reddest states of the country.

Biden's even competitive in Texas... that's how bad it is for Trump.

Trump was so bad in 2016 that he won... why cause so many did not think he would win, they did not bother to vote

Trump was a fluke, one I hope is not repeated in 2020

everyone should assume Trump will win if they do not get out and vote, not voting is a vote for Trump

Dumb-ass is not doing a lot to help himself. Banging away at Fauci probably won't be a winner. His unhinged Rose Garden press conference yesterday certainly didn't win him any new fans. He didn't take many questions, and the few he took befuddled him suggesting that he is incapable of processing what is being asked. Trump is so incompetent that he could set white supremacy back a generation.

Democracy Fund which supposedly did the “poll” is an extreme left wing organization with a bias. I assume their goal is to make Republicans so dejected, that they won't show up to vote. Fat chance! We know how Democrats operate. They cheat...

    Agreed.

Meanwhile, new voter registration in swing states is mostly republican.

They don't want to talk about that.

I seldom find common ground with you but sadly I have on this issue. Trump lost enthusiasm IMO. His campaign promises of 16 won him that election and he was an outsider who would drain the swamp. But he didn't keep enough of those working people promises and the swamp was dredged deeper.

Sure early on he was up to the arse in gators...but the object is to drain the swamp. And he failed.

He lost enthusiasm for some voters noticed he didn't fulfil promises that Nader factually lays out in his new book. Of course he still has diehard supporters but IMO his support has shrunk. He is no longer an outsider but an insider now. He said things that were winners but once bannon left he got amnesia. Like most presidents do.

I called the 16 election for trump. Because his message had not been heard since the DP stopped representing working people in the 90s. And enough people were hungry for it. That message kept the dems in power from 1932 til 1980. Bannon knew it would win. Bannon kept that list of promises on his office wall as a reminder to himself and trump. His exit insured Trump would last one term IMO.

I hate it because China had to be taken on but with Trump losing the two parties of globalists will bend over and grease up to satisfy wall street and lovers of sweat shop economics. For workers don't matter, only investors matter.

And we will see new wars waged by neoconservatives in both parties and Intel.

Trump didn't have the sense to do as bannon advised. Or the moral fortitude. It saddens me for while I didn't vote for him I did believe in most of his promises. Like Obama he didn't keep promises but unlike Obama he isn't liked much due to his personality. Obama didn't get elected on promises but because of his personality and the white guilt. Trump doesn't have that.

Meanwhile in the real world, Trump referred to Nick Saban - multiple times in the last 48 hours - as Lou Saban. While talking to folks from Alabama.

The Trump supporters I have talked to and listened to or read on the internet lack enthusiasm for Trump. They acknowledge Trump's shortcomings as a human being. The affluent Trump supporters forgive Trump for everything because they have benefited from his tax cuts and the continued growth of the stock market. Non affluent Trump supporters, who are always white, are motivated by hostility for non whites and Jews, who they do not even consider to be white.

    The thing about conservative memes?

    They're actually funny.

Colbert could learn a LOT from conservatives if he'd stop humorlessly attacking them & actually listen to them.

I agree-funny things have an air of truth in them and convey it in a witty manner.

Non stop propaganda from a position of anger and bitterness isn't funny.

Five Thirty Eight has a polling average, which includes the partisan lean of the polling organization, and they have Biden up by an average of 9.1%. Putting your head in the sand can't change reality.
