After wading on to the world’s highest rating political reality TV set, Scott Morrison returns from his big week in the US with a mixed reception from the viewers back home.

As he bro-ed up with The Donald and danced around Washington and neighbouring states, most Australians recognised he was playing his designated role. Maybe a tad too ebullient, but still.

Whether he was running point at an Ohio rally or sitting rod-straight with a fixed grimace while Trump went commando at a photo op, the prime minister managed to navigate the circus without getting eaten by the lions.

The response of the Australian public reinforces the idea that while we may not love Trump, being able to manage the US alliance is seen as a core part of the PM’s job description. As this week’s Guardian Essential Report shows, we are not about to vote him out of the House for his performance this week.

Now we are getting word that Epstein had under-aged girls on his private jets that he and Bill used on many occasions.

The media is scrambling to keep it all quiet.

 

In 2015-2016, I didn't like Trump. In fact, I put myself in the category of NeverTrump. I was also NeverClinton, so I voted 3rd party Independent.

After the election, NeverTrump should have died after "Trump Happened". Something that happened can no longer be "never". I hoped for the best and watched to see if Trump would keep his main campaign promises: border security, bringing back jobs, and exposing corruption in Washington DC. I didn't expect much.

To my surprise, Trump has kept true to his word and is working on those campaign promises with a surprising degree of success. I still don't "like" him; I definitely don't "love" him. He has earned my respect despite some of the errors he's made. In 2020, I'll vote for secure borders over open borders, a continuation of job growth over crippling job providers with increased taxation, and for national sovereignty of the people over the old status quo of selling out the country to the highest bidder.

I don't "like" Trump. I do like his policies more than I like the current DNC platform. I do wish he would focus on policy and stop with the broad stereotypical remarks about "Democrats". That's no better than Obama blaming Republicans and Fox News for his inability to build consensus and agreement for his policies and no better than Hillary insulting 63 million voters with the "basket of deplorables" remark. At some point, our "leaders" need to stop slinging mud across the aisle, and find some sort of middle ground again, but perhaps that is a pipe dream and something we cannot return to, at least in the current environment.
