Will Brett Kavanaugh be a fair and impartial judge? His confirmation seems certain. If he is seated on the Supreme Court will he be fair and impartial or, as his testimony linked below seems to indicate, will he use his position to seek revenge or push the Republican agenda?

    http://time.com/5409283/brett-kavanaugh-opening-statement/
...This whole two-week effort has been a calculated and orchestrated political hit, fueled with apparent pent-up anger about President Trump and the 2016 election. Fear that has been unfairly stoked about my judicial record. Revenge on behalf of the Clintons. and millions of dollars in money from outside left-wing opposition groups.

This is a circus. The consequences will extend long past my nomination. The consequences will be with us for decades. This grotesque and coordinated character assassination will dissuade competent and good people of all political persuasions, from serving our country....

...I said I was such a judge, and I am. I will not be intimidated into withdrawing from this process. You’ve tried hard. You’ve given it your all. No one can question your effort, but your coordinated and well-funded effort to destroy my good name and to destroy my family will not drive me out. The vile threats of violence against my family will not drive me out.

You may defeat me in the final vote, but you’ll never get me to quit. Never.

I have to say Kavanaugh emulated Trump admirably. Like Trump at his solo press conference, Kavanaugh repeatedly interrupted the questioner when the questioner was a Democrat. Then he would do his best to avoid answering the question, rambling about how great a guy he was, how badly his reputation has been sullied, how he will never teach or coach again, how four people including someone named Kaiser (?) swear he is innocent. Over and over and over again, much like Trump.

His opening statement was pure Trumpian. In an aggressive manner he accused the Democratic Senators on the Judiciary Committee of being part of a conspiracy to drag his name through the mud. Even if that were true, it is not something someone aspiring to be an impartial judge on the Supreme Court should say. Throughout the hearing, he was belligerent and aggressive, and not the least bit impartial or open minded.

It was a pathetic performance from a man who wants to be a part of the most powerful court in the land. So pathetic that even if he were deemed innocent of all charges somehow in an "he said/she said" environment, he should not be confirmed. With the temperament he displayed today, there is no place for him on the Supreme Court.

In a word, he lost it, several times.

There is little doubt that Trump loved his performance. Picture this, one Trump in the Oval Office. Another one on the Supreme Court.

    Good God, no.

I think that he will be. I doubt if he will be any worse then Ginsburg, Sotomayor or Kagan.

The American Bar Association unanimously declared him "well qualified."

“The rating of ‘Well Qualified’ is reserved for those found to merit the Committee’s strongest affirmative endorsement,” the ABA states in its description of the ranking process.

You may want to read today's news: https://twitter.com/ABAesq/status/1045664659045588993
.@ABAPresident sent a letter to leaders of @senjudiciary on Thursday, urging them to conduct a confirmation vote on Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh only after the FBI completes a background check into the allegations by Professor Christine Blasey Ford and others.

If a woman had had the tantrum Kavanaugh displayed, she would have been called a shrill harpy. Kavanaugh just oozes white male privilege from the broken capillaries in his face, and I say that as a white male.

I don't think Kavanaugh's the brightest bulb in the shed, but like Scalia (no mental giant either), he seems to possess a degree of common sense that the Court is often desperately lacking.

No judge is impartial - ever - but I think he'll be okay.

Of course, the entire game is rigged in favor of the 1% - 10%, so the People lose no matter what.

I think Kavanaugh will demonstrate sensitivity for the rights of the accused.

I think he's had a first hand slap in the face on how important our legal protections for the rights of the accused are.

According to the ABA's recommendation, Kavanaugh pretty nearly walks on water. Rescinding that would put them in a very bad light.
    Representative comments from the document:
    As to Kavanaugh's Integrity:
“His integrity is absolutely unquestioned. He is very circumspect in his personal conduct
and harbors no biases or prejudices.”
“His reputation for honesty and integrity is excellent.”
“He always seeks to be fair. He is not result oriented. He always wants to do the right thing.”
    As to Kavanaugh's Competence:
“He is just the best -- brilliant, a great writer, fair, and he is open-minded.”
“He is susceptible to being persuaded to the opposite position from where he started.”
“He is extraordinary. He is very bright, very careful, very thoughtful, very thorough, and very conscientious.”
    As to Kavanaugh's Judicial Temperament:
“He is a really decent person, has not done anything untoward on a personal basis.”
“He... gets the highest marks in the area of professionalism.”
“His temperament is terrific. He is thoughtful, and fair-minded in his questions to counsel.”
“He always approaches cases intelligently and respectful of the views of others with whom he disagreed.”

Personally, I don't think anybody should have the power the SCOTUS has to determine Constitutionality without substantially more checks on that power than exists now. Since they do have unaccountable power that they have I think its better if the members of the court are as Originalist as possible.

You think this was a shitshow? Imagine what's going to happen if Justice Thomas announces his retirement at the end of the court's term next year?

    Physician heal thyself....

So, what indications are there that Judge Kavanaugh would not be a fair and impartial judge.

Outside of the silly "ABA wants to see FBI investigation completed" thing, which has nothing to do with their Gold Star rating, is there any evidence Kavanaugh would not continue to operate in the manner that earned him that Gold Star rating?
