With millions of Americans vaccinated against COVID-19, a national debate now rages over “vaccine passports” (or vaxxports) that privilege those who have taken “the jab.” These proofs of immunization take the form of a smartphone app with a personalized QR code. Those favoring such digital certification say it makes us “safer” as a society and hastens a return to pre-pandemic normalcy. But critics liken it to China’s social scoring system (Social Credit System) aimed at rewarding those who conform and punishing those who don’t. They decry it as government overreach, invasion of privacy, and curtailment of personal freedom. They believe Americans shouldn’t be required to show proof of vaccination or reveal personal information to go about their daily lives. Anti-vaxxport protesters in California’s Orange County – who are on the frontlines in this battle – even had a placard saying "'Show Your Papers' is a Nazi Plan.

An interesting article. It makes some good points about the totalitarian nature of vaccine passports. It’s an issue of individual rights and personal freedom. Government should not have this power. They should not be allowed to coerce people into taking an experimental drug in order to participate fully in society.

“Your papers please” are words no American should ever have to hear.

    .

Why do so many use NAZI imagery... when it is current day MARXISTS who are alive and well and in control who are the REAL enemy ?!

Before you can defeat an enemy... first you have to identify him.

Hitler's National Socialists fought against the Marxists.

The US allied with the wrong side and now there's hell to pay.

so a business should not be able to make sure their customers are safe

just wear a mask or not visit their store, no proof needed

that said, other countries may require it to go there, if you do not want foreigners that come here to show proof, let your elected officials know

all this said, Biden said no vaccine passports, and most businesses I have seen are not verifying

They were both the wrong side. Both were forms of socialism. Both were genocidal regimes. I disagree that we were on the wrong side. Germany did declare war on us first after we declared war on their ally Japan in the aftermath of the day that shall live in infamy.

imo, America's system is the best system, as we do not limit ourselves to just one system, we use the best of all systems, use what works, not limit ourselves to one system, and what works today, may not work tomorrow, we have to change from time to time and always use what works - all systems can be abused by their leaders and the rich and powerful

You don't see the difference between asking for identification and asking for a medical record?

Not that much of a difference. When authorities ask you for your driver's license, they are asking for evidence that you are not going to kill somebody. Same goes for a vaccine passport.

    Labels can be counterproductive.

What we are seeing is basically authoritarianism, a version of the tyranny of the majority, an effort to rend the social fabric by wicked impulses within the human condition.

That it is all based upon a scam is the interesting part to me.

In one of my careers over the years, I designed batteries for one corporation and supervised development of batteries for another aerospace company.

Our batteries were required to have a guaranteed shelf .life. That presents an obvious problem. How do you test to determine whether something will last for ten years in less than ten years? We performed accelerated testing. We vibrated and shocked them at higher levels for much shorter periods and we subjected them to much higher temperatures for much shorter periods. Generally, that worked well. However, there were a few isolated occasions where the batteries survived the accelerated testing, but failed prematurely in use. In fact, one set of batteries seemed to perform better because of the accelerated testing, but failed prematurely in use.

In short, if the concern is that in thirty years that there will be adverse unacceptable side effects from the vaccines, you will have to wait for thirty years to find out. However, generally adverse side effects occur much earlier than that.

You simply can't get one hundred per cent assurance..

I was vaccinated at the earliest opportunity. Because of my advanced age, I took a calculated risk. I doubted that I would live long enough to have a severe problem and I am not going to have any more children.

I understand the reluctance of some people not to be vaccinated. However, given how contagious this virus is, I recommend that everyone get vaccinated. To me, the risk of not getting it outweigh the risk of getting it.

Such passports are essentially in violation of HIPPA and probably several other state and federal statutes.

Wrong question! If you don't know the purpose of vaccine passports, the question is not "what?". It's "why?"

He was not asking the "why" of the passport. He was making the comment that the statement itself did not make sense.

The question was about your comment that people ask for driver licenses to prevent people from killing other people. Wrong answer.

What's the difference between being asked to prove your of legal age to buy smokes or booze or that you've been vaccinated?
