From the "You can't make this (*)(*)(*)(*) up if you tried" department, I bring you this:

I think this blogger may have undervalued the dinner with obama. Recently, a group of the "correct 1%" paid $40,000 a piece to dine with barry-boy. So, this tax bill may be considerably higher.

Man, the obama campaign keeps getting funnier with each passing day.

What does this have to do with the Obama campaign?

Any gift or contest winning is subject to federal tax. This is not new, nor is it news. It's a blogger trying to make something out of nothing.

The same thing happened to all the Oprah fans that got free cars one year.

The winners still come out ahead. Anyone who has had 1st grade arithmetic, which apparently does not include the OP or this blogger, understands that. If I give you something worth $1600, and you need to pay $560 in taxes as a result, you're still $1040 (that's ironic) ahead. That's without taking into account the discounted present value of money (i.e. $560 today is worth more than $560 at the end of the year when you file taxes and actually have to pay that money)

By your logic, I shouldn't accept a winning lottery ticket worth $250,000, because I'd have to pay $50,000 in taxes at the end of the year.

Did you forget the campaign donation you had to make in order to be entered in the contest?

Not even close. This prize is portrayed as a free trip and meal. If you won money the taxes would be taken out of that money.

It's the ole 'nuthin's ever free' syndrome. Did you see who won the latest dinner with the Obama's?

    $3. Dorkiest president ever.

One more 'Dinner with Barack" perk. (Hope you're not eating lunch)

In that pic, I bet he just whispered to Michelle, "They're so stupid, they don't even know we were introduced by Mrs. William Ayers, do they?"

With the new value of dinner with barry the winner's tax burden would be $14,490.

Kinda like those 'free' cars Oprah used to give away. At least until people started reporting they had to sell them to pay the taxes.

    Snake-oil salesmen...

The value of the free trip and meal exceeds the amount of the taxes, by the very nature of how our tax system works.

Therefore, as I stated already, the winner still comes out ahead.

    Basic. Arithmetic.

LOL talking about 'dinner with Barack' at lunch today and some co-workers were saying, "Wow! How would you know what to say to the POTUS? I'd be speechless!"

Told 'em not me... that I'd have a lot of question I'd want to ask this president!

They brought me back to earth by reminding me... you'd have to listen to his answers.

Yuck, nevermind. No way could I swallow and listen him to him talk at the same time. :puke:

Who cares? The more facts they have to deal with, the less they can find to hate him for.

It's the way Obama couches it. He probably had the winners think it was all expense paid.

You know how Obama likes to lie first and tell the truth later.

You just said on another thread, "Obama's a joke" -- make up your mind, TRAT. You're playing both ends from the middle.

No, I'm not. I've said nothing off course. I think he's a joke, and I don't like him - but I don't have the kind of rabid Obama Derangement Syndrome the rest of you do. I dislike him based on policy, not crazy nutter stuff.

Until obama leaves them with the tab[IMG]

Seriously, $14,490 is way too much to pay to dine with anyone. Unless, you're on of the "correct 1%" that hates America.

LOL. OIC, you dislike Obama for the 'right' reasons whereas we dislike him for 'wrong' reasons. Therefore we're wrong and you're right.

    Got it.

Just wondering, Thinker. You were too young to vote for Obama in 2008 so November will be your very first time to vote for a president. I've noticed you 'hate' Romney too (for all the right reasons, I'm sure)... does that mean you'll be sitting out your first presidential election? Or throw away your vote on a no-can-win?

Whatever... I hope you vote. It's your civic duty.

And it gives you the right to complain. ;)

Actually, you can enter without contributing.

Hmmmm... airfare, hotel room and dinner with the President, $560 + whatever amount you may have donated?

Most people realize that there will be taxes. They can refuse the prize.

    So what's the problem?

Try it. See what your chances are.

Try $14,490 if we use the amount that the "correct 1%" recently paid.

Maybe they'll start another fundraiser to pay the taxes for this fundraiser.

"Have dinner with the person that had dinner with obama".

    ... sigh...

It is all expense paid. An "all expense paid" prize does not include paying the taxes on that prize. When the contestant on Wheel of Fortune picks up the all expense paid trip to Bermuda off the wheel, they have to pay the taxable value of that trip.

Thank you... At least someone understands.

Why don't these nutters see they are handing Obama his reelection? Focus our energy on the policy issues, there's plenty to talk about, instead of obsessing over every stupid thing.

So you have no cogent response to my post, which deflates the entire raison d'etre for your thread, and you decide to simply change the topic? Brilliant.

Well, yes, I'd have to agree with T.R.A.T. there. A lot of people here have Obama Derangement Syndrome, which Obama will brilliantly exploit to ride to reelection, if they don't get over it. One thing he's not is stupid.

Why is voting for someone other than Obama or Romney a "throw away"? Should not each person vote for the person they think best suits their ideals?

oh no. lefties don't think like that. They would think it was going to be free. Just like Oprah's audience members who 'won the car'.

    Good summary! :D

At the moment, I'm planning on just leaving the President bubbles blank and only voting for Congress, state, and local. Especially since the REAL power is in Congress.

But no, I'm not going to waste my first bote for President on two candidates that I don't like and never chose.

The constitution gives me the right to complain, whether I vote or not ;)
