Would we use natural gas if it were introduced today

    I'm not sure this should be here. I request a mod to move it if he knows where it might be more apt, and I thank them for taking the time.

    We recently had a gas explosion in the city where I live. It killed one person and badly injured two more. The thing is they were just standing in the street, apparently, and the vacant house they were next to exploded.

    One of the relatives pointed out, "you don't just send your child off to school and expect him to get blown up"

    Besides pointing our still rapidly deteriorating infrastructure problems it brought to mind how terribly dangerous using gas actually is. If you have even the tiniest of leaks in cast iron pipes. (I think they use mostly cast iron) you can easily be poisoned, blown up or both

    If it were not in use already, would it go into widespread use today?
