Money itself does not buy happiness. However it puts you in a position where you're allowed to be happy if you're capable.
True enough - but "what is happiness"? To my mind it is a word that means far too much and depends upon both the person and their circumstance. Moreover, and since this is an "economics forum", it is somewhat meaningless in this present context. That is, economists don't measure the content of "happiness" in an economy. Whyzzat? Because its definition is highly personal and, thus, not sufficiently exact for economic purposes. As is, for instance, "GDP". So, I'm fairly sure that trying to predict "happiness" in any given country (or civilization) is far less important than the typical economic parameters that are indeed measurable (with a modicum of accuracy). Just a thought ...
