You've been smacked with the global warming stick I see. Global warming is the least of your worries. Think virus, civil war, currency collapse, zombie apocalypse first. Then start thinking about climate change. Are you one of those who's been fed this since your kindergarten days?
Hmmmm, https://time.com/4608555/hillary-clinton-popular-vote-final/ https://www.cbsnews.com/news/joe-bi...-obama-us-presidential-election-donald-trump/ I think you are erroneous in your claim that more people would like Trump if the media didn't report on his constant tweet storms exposing him for who he actually is.
Global warming is far more dangerous & will impact this Earth in ways that most Americans never dreamed of. And that impact will be a nightmare that will completely overshadow every other issue anyone now has. Doing nothing will be regarded by your children & grandchildren as the most insensitive, uncaring, absolutely stupid response imaginable. Leaders today who choose to disregard this danger will all be put on the black lists of history. Global warming will completely remake this planet. It will cause migrations in volumes never heard of before. It will dissolve borders of every nation & disrupt the lives of every living organism from Man down to single celled organisms. We have less than a decade to do something about it. Then it's too late. Then we deal with the consequences of our doubt.
Lol, Mother Nature is going to rise up and prevent people from burning gas in their cars. Good luck selling that to the general population.
How does your consensus of scientists know we only have a few years left? This is the stuff of poorly written sci-fi.
Ya know, I learned in middle school history class that nobody did much of anything for one reason. Why is nuance such a complex idea for Pubs and conservatives? Life is just not simple and voters are not just simpletons who can only hold one idea in their heads at a time - at least Dem voters aren't.
The media didn't need to persuade me. I've known the Tangerine Turd was a mentally ill, grifting, lying sack of carpetbagging bullshit since Reagan was President. Nothing he has done since has changed that opinion, only confirmed it.
Your issue is that we've known him for a long time, since the Robin Leech, living big in the 80's days. I've never liked a single thing about him. Ever. The media didn't have to convince me of anything. My opinion of him hasn't changed much in 40 years, except to get worse. The media had nothing to do that. He's around, personally, frequently enough for me to hear it right from his angry, mean-spirited, constantly negative self. Do you not understand this?
It's entirely possible that the people in more rural areas were not inundated with the pop culture phenomena, the way we were in the more populated areas, and did not really know Trump at all, until 2015. In that context, I can see why he's refreshing. To me, he just represents everything that was wrong with the era of excess. Maybe these people don't think much of all the cheating and divorces, and how utterly exhausting it was to hear about him all the time, because they didn't experience it. I just don't know.
As someone who lived in small-town East Texas (three broadcast channels and no cable) in the 80's, when I formed my opinion of him, I don't give the flyover states that much credit. They had the same opportunity I did, they just liked huffing the stank.
That's interesting. So he was everywhere. I don't know what turned me off, first, but gold toilets come to mind. I just think that there is a way to be supremely successful, and not be a total ****** bag, at the same time. He's everything that Christians claim to find appalling, and, yet, he appeals. Obama is hated, not for policies, but as a man, and he's everything Christians claim to hold dear. I just do not get it.
He was all over the afternoon tabloid and talk shows that the local stations used as pre-news filler starting with Art of the Deal. Then even more so when he started his affair with Marla Maples.
So, there's just nobody in my personal life to ask this very specific question. My in-laws are republican, solidly Trump, but not religious. They don't go to church, so their religious talking points come from Republicans. Abortion bad, cheating on wife, good. I get how they are okay with Trump and somehow, Obama bad man because bad policies. It's that simpleton, in terms of these very specific people. It's not that they are dumb; they are ignorant, politically. IOW, they just take it as truth, and don't look into it. (Think something like, "hahaha Michelle isn't really a man, but it's fun to pretend because she has the features and he's an ******* and she hates American so prolly true.") I don't personally know anyone who is truly, deeply religious, and a true republican, who approves of Trump and genuinely thinks Obama is a bad man. That's the friend I want to have a conversation with, but can't. In my extremely diverse group of friends, I don't have that one. 70 million people voted for him and hate Obama, and I don't know a single one.
Actually both. Religion is worn on one's sleeve here, and churches do great business, but finding those who actually BELIEVE and LIVE the faith is a rarity. Have you heard of a "dry county?" It's a county that has outlawed alcohol sales. My home county - Smith County, Texas - was known as the "wettest dry county in Texas." You see, they prohibited carry-out sales, but it was perfectly fine to sell alcohol in bars and restaurants for on-site consumption under the "private club with membership available" fig leaf. There was even a blanket membership - UniCard - that most restaurants and bars accepted, for a nominal fee. Almost all "good Christians" had one in their wallet or purse. Just a small example of small town Texas hypocrisy.
Yes. I am painfully aware. One of the absolutely worst nights of my entire life, had to happen on a late Sunday night, just north of Atlanta. I couldn't even get a bottle of wine. The details are irrelevant, but let's say I left behind the worst month of my life towards a new beginning, and on the first night of that new beginning, after driving 15 hours, I couldn't even have a beer.
A greater present danger for the US, and the neoliberal democracies in general, is uncomprehending hyper-partisanship. 'Fairness' versus 'freedom'. I don't have to tell you what party identifies most with each. Good governance can engender both.
I will be glad to hand you a few that I know who you can interview, but I have a non-returnable policy about acquaintances and neighbors who wear MAGA hats. Its a great deal with free shipping but totally 'as is'. No trades or refunds. I live in a small farming town in Oregon. How many 'Trumper buds' would you like to order?
I'm not qualified to be a priest, author, astronaut, musician or basket weaver but I'll critique their work. Saying someone is above criticism because they obtained the office of president has turned the office into a religion where you are expected to accept all without critical thinking. That's very dangerous and one of the reasons I voted against Trump. It's not unlike my opinion of the Cubs, like most Sox fans we'd be pretty ambivalent towards the Cubs if it weren't for the insanity of their fans.
Just a point, can you be free if treated unfairly? Is it OK to be free if it is gained through the oppression of others?
No. In fact, the UNUDHR article 23 states everyone has a right to above poverty employment, as a derived right from inalienable rights to life, liberty and security. No. Unemployment - and below poverty minimum wages - are both immoral and avoidable, in a world of plenty.
