are conditional, as this crisis has shown us, the gov. can just pass laws to suspend your rights. So we really only have the illusion of rights. You either have them or you dont, it's not conditional. Dont even get me started on property taxes and the fact you never truly own your property. This is no longer a free country.
Right. We need to go back to the good old days when human beings could buy each other, women were barred from owning property or voting, and a Chinese man couldn’t marry a white woman. Hell, when we went thru the Second World War, Americans had the backbone to ration goods, be drafted and face death, and work together to face a crisis. Now, some Conservatives are asked to wear masks when they go out, and they sit down and cry like five year olds in a toy store when Mom tells them “no”... Sad.
Exactly. I say that every time someone tries to say we have rights endowed by some creator. WE don't. In the worst case scenario, might is the only right. In a civil cases, the gov't affords and grants rights. Hopefully, WE THE PEOPLE dictate those rights. Since we elect them. But we let them scare us and take some freedoms and rights away. But the reality of the situation is, there are no creator, god, or any other unseen being given rights. Never has and never will be.
If you really want to understand your rights under a pandemic you should review previous SC and Federal Court Rulings. This is not the first time the question of public safety vs. your rights under the Constitution have come up. Take a look at Jacobson v. Massachusetts. https://supreme.justia.com/cases/federal/us/197/11/
Oh hush, we're fine. You literally can post this on the internet and complain your precious rights are gone. When the polity score dips below 6, let me know. Until then? Keep screaming about how you have no rights as you practice your 1st amendment rights.
I was with you right up until the last line. I believe in a Creator. On this, we will simply disagree.
Your post started as garbage, hyperbole and race baiting, and ended the same way, are you the least bit concerned your "rights" are conditional?
Wow, so because we have one right, others are not being suspended? We have a right of assembly, we have seen gun stores being declared as "non essential" Peoples right to run a business, is being violated. And...just in case you were not aware of it, the First does not apply to an internet forum but rather limits the Gov. from obstructing free speech.
We don't have a right to assembly, or a right to guns. Nor did you mention polity score. Now as for your point about the government isn't an internet forum... You know the government could censor stuff posted on the internet right?
This post, founded in ignorance, clearly demonstrates you have zero understanding of the Constitution and Bill of rights. As for the rest of your post, I dont address strawmen.
They'll outlaw it and call out the Military if we dared. Anyone even thinking of going will be labeled a terrorist and kiddie porn will mysteriously appear on each of their computers overnight, followed by the surprise arrival of the local SWAT team the next morning on suspicion of making threats of terror online. (Citing your forum posts and facebook rants)
"We who" Kemosabe? Everything you just posted sounds more like it's about China than the USA? Unbelievable what some people who claim to be American say these days. omg
You do realize I'm talking about how the US constitution is an example of negative rights? It's more like saying if we have right x, then the government infringe on it. It's not the same thing as a positive right, ie we have that right. It's not a strawman, it's just basic political theory.
He said your post was founded in ignorance. I would agree. He doesn't seem to be insulting you, just pointing out what he sees
You literally said we have no rights to assembly or guns, I must assume you willfully choose to make such, erroneous statements. Asides from the point of my OP, we absolutely have such rights.
You only have what your willing to protect. That is why our forefathers put in the Second Amendment to use if the government decided to strip you of the rights you have. But lets also look at it realistically, your rights end when the interfere with the rights of others. States have their own rights too, separate from the Federal Government
We don't have those rights guaranteed by the government because they're negative rights. It's a conditional statement. If we have the right to freedom of speech, then the government can't interfere with them. Same thing applies to voting. We don't have a right to vote, we just have amendments which say if we have the right to vote, it can't be restricted based on things like age, gender, etc.
But we have a law, that says we can declare a state of emergency and suspend what rights "we" choose.
So in a roundabout way, we agree. Ever heard on "inalienable" rights? Remember what document it's in?
