I agree that in the rush to crack down on paedophilia, legislators didn't stop and think it through. This whole area of under-age sex needs a wider selection of possible offences and a wider selection of possible penalties for those different offences, to fit the very different circumstances that can currently follow under the same charge. Let's separate the young girl with the older boyfriend still in school from the almost-adult sleeping with an adult from the child being sexually used by an adult from the out-and-out monsters.

If you gave the death penalty to child rapists, the rapist would kill the child as the penalty would be the same.
I voted for the death penalty for those pedophiles, because there is no cure for them and their victims. They usually kill the child or psychologically destroy them for the rest of their lives, so the death penalty is reasonable. Apart from this, too bad that false human rights politics limits the scope of psychological research in prisons, so the situation will never change.
I voted option 3: A few/several years + social treatment programs. I think i is adequate for the harm done. Long prison sentences and death penalty should be reserved for murder. Things like rape, physical/sexual abuse or battery are not serious enough to warrant more than several years in prison. Also, sterilisations of violent criminals should be applicable.
they should get rehabilition and not prison punishment because they obviously have a mental illness but would feel differently if it was a child i cared about.
Just imagine if you had been convicted on "solid evidence" and spent 12 years in jail for child rape when it is later learned that the evidence was fabricated. Let us suppose that you were given the short eyes treatment in all that time, what would you do, then?

If the predator is over 18 and the child is under 15, then I think the correct punishment would be a bullet in the head. (of the predator, not the child )
And if we discover 12-20 years later that the evidence was manufactured by the cops or prosecutor (as has been done in Cook Co, Illinois) and the alleged attacker was wrongly executed, what do you do then?
I would leave it up to God. I would take it. But you make an excellent point, evidence gets fabricated some times so we should play it safe and legalize everything. That way nobody ever gets wrongfully convicted. You and I live on completely different worlds...
it's a difficult call to make , Mak , and your point is well made , however , I seek justice for the victim , the perverts need to suffer intensely , my opinion . say what ? man , the rape of a child is one of the most heinious crimes there is , it's evil and deserves the most severe and painful punishment that can be devised , I personally favor public castration and removal of the male organ , but I would , maybe , accede to the lesser punishment of tying a 20 pound weight around the male genitalia on a 200 foot long piece of barbed wire and dropping it over the side of a 220 foot tall building. the barbs will catch on each other about every 20 feet , with an agonizing pause, and then continue for another 20 feet , another agonizing pause , and so on and so on and so on ... but I am in favor of letting the convicted child rapist / pervert making the choice between the two punishments . yes , without a doubt , LM , you most certainly would feel differently .
