I voted life in prison. Being a chmo in the slammer is a far worse fate than getting the needle.

Is child rape really much different from any other form of rape?

And it depends on what is meant by 'rape'.
I have had several young girls 'approach' me, and several of them were much much younger than you would believe! (I did not do anything in case you are wondering)
I do not know for sure, but it could be possible that in many of the supposed child 'rapes', the children were not as blameless as everyone thinks they are.

I believe it is only rape when the victim does not give their consent, no matter what their age! (well obviously if they have barely even learned to talk yet, they cannot give consent  ) In an ideal world the parents and an outside government appointed child-advocate should have some input into this when the child in young and inexperienced, but this is simply not how things are.

I am tired of young adults being labled "rapists" for having sex with all too willing and enthusiastic 16-year olds.

The government shouldn't be able to kill ANY of it's citizens irregardless of what they do. It's just a power they don't deserve.

I would think raping a child should serve ~10-20 years minimum. (Essentially a life sentence)

As I keep saying, you can't make the punishment worse than the crime, which is also what Mak is trying to say too. If you make the punishment worse than the crime then the criminal has an incentive to step up the criminal act.

You don't see many people shoot witnesses when they are caught shoplifting. Why? Because shoplifting carries, usually, a pretty light punishment. If you made shoplifting life in prison, or carried the death penalty, witnesses would be getting killed quite often.

That's insane. You trust your government in locking people away indefinitely and torturing them? That's one of the most horrible ideas I've ever heard of.. the potential for abuse is far too great.

Okay.... I am actually a quite liberal and flexible individual when pushed.

The government or victim's families get to do the deeds.

If you trust them with that kind of power.. you better hope you never cross them.

I don't know you at all but whoever you are you don't deserve to be dragged off in the night, no trial, indefinite detention with torture.

That is just a simple belief statement . It gives no support whatsoever for showing that your belief represents "Best Option" , or , hopefully , "Most fair and best end result"
It ignores evidence from the world's foremost independent experts , who can demonstrate that a significant sub group have no control over their actions for physiological/ chemical reasons .
The blanket reaction of " Put them to death" is just an emotional response of disgust and repugnance .Nothing wrong with the reaction . But it does go wrong when the brain and mind get switched off from that moment on .
As Humans with sophisticated brains and value systems , we need to do better than just yelling out for them to be put to death .
Islam Fundamentalists behave in that way . I know we have as large a group of Christian Fundamentalists who are not one jot different . Quite a few are here in this Forum . Fundamental extremists of the Christian variety .
Revenge Merchants based on unquestioned Belief systems .

What is your stance on punishment for child murder without rape? Rape of an adult? Murder of an adult? Non-sexual abuse of a child? Non-sexual abuse of an adult?

Do you support such harsh punishments for these comparably evil crimes, too? Or is your stance based only on empty moral outrage because there is a sexual or infant element present?

Two wrongs will NEVER make a right.

In England 39 people committed SUICIDE because they were wrongfully convicted of downloading child porn in a case of prosecutorial misconduct:

    http://www.factuk.org/2007/05/hundreds-wrongly-accused-of-downloading-child-pornography/

God knows how many innocents have suffered the same fate because of similar cases. For those of you applauding the death penalty and other severities, just imagine if this happened to you or to a loved one.

I thank RiseAgainst for addressing my posts. Now, let's hope others of you will think very carefully before you demand such punishments.

If you have lax laws for sexual exploitation of children in your country, so be it. But, here in the states it's considered a very heinous crime. I don't know why this is so hard for you to grasp.

Oh look, a logical fallacy. This one is known as a false dichotomy.

The only two choices are not a slap on the wrist or execution.

So saying every victim pf child molestation will be killed, because the peratrature doesn't want to face harsher consequences, isn't an assumption?

    Wow.

Here's a hint from now on. If what you post is a logical fallacy, backspace over it and type something else.

In case you didn't realise, your post is known as a strawman argument.

You're the one, who based your argument on an assumption.

Here's a link to a dictionary, since you are obviously having a hard time grasping the term.

Yup. That's why I've since ignored his posts. I can justify lessening various crimes or legalizing them based on what if's. It's pointless.

You're basing it on religion on the (*)(*)(*)(*)ing idiotic idea that innocent people being killed doesn't matter because they'll go to your imaginary friend in the sky.

Hey genius, these are your own words.

"You can't make the punishment more severe than the criminal act. What do I mean?

If you make the punishment more severe than the criminal act then the criminal loses nothing by increasing the level of the crime.

Eg. Rape a child, get executed. The criminal loses nothing by killing the child. In fact, they gain from killing the child because now there'
    s less evidence.

    This is called an assumption.
It's a game of finding the right level of punishment to crime."

I love it how I can take a asinine quote from your original argument, just turn around and prove you wrong again.

Even better is that you're throwing another hissy fit because you've been proven wrong once again.

It must suck to be a ego maniac and a functioning illiterate all at the same time. I pity you.

Wow that was a stupid comment. You took my previous comment too literally due to your own shortcomings.

My stance on this is antithetical to my religion, if anything.

No, those are real considerations when setting punishment levels for crimes. Your ignorance does not have an impact on reality.

Now show me where I said that ALL molested children would be murdered.
