As far as where the idea came from, who knows?

There was obviously some knowledge that his dad was from Kenya, so, maybe someone incorrectly assumed Obama was from there, too...

I don't know...

But, they also got his dad's job wrong, so, obviously, someone didn't check their facts...

And, if this only meant to be circulated among other publishers, maybe Obama didn't check it himself...

I could see them requiring his approval on an official, bookflap-type bio, but, probably not so much on what was essentially a flyer to shop him to publishers...

In 1990 Barack Obama was telling magazines that he was born in Hawaii.
In 1991 a pamphlet was published that said he was born in Kenya
In 1995 Barack Obama's book was published that said was born in Hawaii.
in 2011 The State of Hawaii confirmed Barack Obama was born in Hawaii
In 2012, the author of the pamphlet said she made a mistake.
