there are plently case where female swimmer swim faster than gold medal male swimmer. until its proven its all speculation/jealous. i mean imagine if in 2008 china and other countries accuse Phelp cheating cause he break several world records. be a sportsmanship dont judge other countries athlete cause they perform good. beside swiming is not about muscle size but muscle/weigth/shape/stamina ratio. there are plently smaller fish in the sea swim faster than its larger counterpart.
Does it matter? I am 21 about to enter my third year in a degree in Economics and Irish History. My preferred area of study is Ireland 1800-1970. I am not saying forget, I am all for remembering, but why should the British in a moment of celebration be expected to flagellate themselves for the sins of their forefathers? It is the Olympic opening ceremony I would no more expect a reenactment of the trail of tears in an american opening ceremony than I would expect the British to depict the famine. There is a time and a place and that is not it.
It doesn't matter, I was just curious. It makes sense that the younger generations would be more about moving forward. That is a good thing. Good luck in your studies, it's a very interesting time period, for sure. I studied quite a bit of Irish history during my time spent in Dingle, myself. I never said they should. I didn't mention anything about the games at all. All I said was to never forget. Much like 9/11. Move on, but never forget. Don't repeat the same mistakes twice.
While I agree the thread should be about sports... however... the Olympics is ultimately a political showcase for nations, individuals, and ideologies. to say the event is above "politicking" is a bit naive...it is precisely all about politicking...and is more often than not fodder for propaganda purposes.. Case in point the '36 Olympics in Berlin highlighted the progress the Nazi party had done rebuilding Germany from it's post WWI economic collapse. The event was used as political propaganda. All the "Nein Juden" signs taken down..the bums cleaned up...the jack boots polished... see we Nazi's aren't so bad, look how beautiful we've made Berlin. This is very much an extension of the Cold War...only in place of the Soviet Union, it is China vs. U.S. Who can forget USA's hockey team defeating the USSR in the '80 Olympics...had it been Finland...or Sweden...the win wouldn't have produced such a swell in Nationalism within the United States...the hockey team had become an extension of the Cold War. China goes to extreme measures to field athletes whose sole purpose is to win Gold...or at minimum medal in an event...they exist to exalt China on a Global stage... To say otherwise is naivete... Sports in the Olympics...is essentially a tool of Nationalism...hence an "exercise" (no pun intended) in the body politic.... I do agree though, that the spirit of this specific thread should focus on athletics...
we don't agree much but that is plausible, not only does the communist state push these athletes to their limits with threats but China has been making some medical innovation break throughs as of late. they could have devised a formula that does not show up on the routine medical tests so that their athletes have a physical edge, some new form of steroids thats undetectable. American athletes win based alone on merit, and since we enjoy the most individual liberties of any nation our athletes are naturally superior so these gold medals that we are losing so soon into the olympic competitions does not add up. it was certainly not like this in 2004, something has changed and I don't like it.
Ian Thorpe The Australian "Thorpedo" gained five seconds on his previous best at the same age and stage in his career. Did anyone question it? No. Likewise, Ruta Meilutyte came from nowhere to overwhelm significant opposition in her heat. No questions. Could it be the nationality of the swimmer?
She smashed the previous world record by over a second at barley 16 years old, and during the second half of the race swam faster than the men in the same event, and knowing Chinas track record of cheating with state sponsored doping programs for Olympic athletes, one has to wonder.
Congrats to Michael Phelps. After a silver and a gold tonight, he has now won more medals than any other athlete in Olympic history. http://www.usatoday.com/sports/olympics/london/swimming/story/2012-07-31/michael-phelps-19-olympic-medals-record/56626284/1?csp=34sports
China was winning the games when I last saw the leaderboard. Enjoying that while it lasts. One doesn't wonder much about this girl who is being sabotaged in the media. They are all at it, one assumes, but as some are better at concealing it than others and some teams we know will stupidly do anything to publicly win, one wonders which teams could reasonably be suspected of having done absolutely anything to win. One wonders if there is more evidence to suggest this child is on drugs, than there is evidence to suggest that giant Phelps person whose "achievements" appear somewhat more "unusual" is on them?
U.S. women easily take gold in gymnastics. http://msn.foxsports.com/olympics/gymnastics/story/jordyn-wieber-gabrielle-douglas-aly-raisman-mckayla-maroney-kyla-ross-USA-women-gold-medal-looked-easy-073112?from=en-us_msnhp Viv's jealousy and rage grow with each U.S. medal.
Phelps was born with superior genetics that gave him long limbs , practical for a good swimmer, the china woman is very short with stubs no less and does not possess the natural physical attributes of a world class swimmer. it leads those with inquisitive minds to wonder how she can win so easily without being injected with genetically altered harmones.
The most outrageous vault I've ever seen! Congrats to the U.S. women's gymnastic team for their gold & to Michael Phelps, who is now the greatest Olympian. Ever. McKayla Maroney's vault
Regarding Phelps. Most medals, yes. Greatest Olympic athlete, no. Phelps is in a sport where he can wrack up a dozen medals in an Olympics, other great athletes are not. An unbelievably dominate champion like Aleksandr Karelin, for instance, was the most dominate athlete in the sport of Greco roman wrestling for 15 years straight, never losing a match in the Olympics or international competition (until the loss to Gardner in the finals before his retirement).
Time Magazine 31st July 2012: On drug testing at the 2012 Olympics - UK Telegraph 1st August 2012: Ian Thorpe of Australia improved his time by 5 seconds between the ages of 15 and 16 - so he was also on drugs, right? And, if notwithstanding all of this, Ye is still on drugs, it is a weird drug. It has no effect on the breast-, back- and butterfly-strokes; it only helps her freestyle Sorry, what was it that you were wondering again?
lol so when we win its superior genetic, but when they win its doping. can you be more double standard. the woman has large hand/feet, its weight/power ratio is good for swiming. the british drug test, and IOC already said shes clean.
What is the world's greatest meal - a perfectly barbecued entrecĂ´te steak, an exquisitely complicated Punjabi biryani, a ... ..... an impeccably prepared cheeseburger, a classic beef Wellington, a ..... , some ....., the ultimate boeuf bourguignon, the most divine plate of Belgium triple-fried chips, or an enormous plate of southern-fried chicken. Well it obviously has to be between the chips or the chicken because they are the most or the biggest.
Firstly, you sound extremely naive about doping and the steps athletes take to mask suspicious elements in their system. Lance Armstrong never tested positive either, yet he's a well known doper. When you factor in what she accomplished, on top of the fact that China has state sponsored cheating programs (doping, falsifying ages of athletes, etc) it's no wonder a cloud of doubt will be cast over her. But if you're under the extremely naive position that there isn't dopers competing in these games that will never be caught, I don't know what else there is to discuss with you.
i think you are the naive one to think when someone win thats not your home country, they automatically win due to doping. pretty much all the major news already said china is in the clean. as for china state sponsored cheating program for olympic is that your stereotypes/racism or fact. if its fact please provide source other than your BS. china send their team to US/autrailia train for 5 years, pay four time than anybody else to hire top western coach to train them. the chinese girl you accuse of cheating was train by famous austrlia coach for years, win many medal before she went to london, and she was test regularly during trainning in australia and in london. china bring their team own chef to meet their diet to australia. even now the next olympic chinese team are training in michgan, US, australia and other place, hire some of the best coach in the world to train their team. when you have 1.3billion people and $hundreds million to train the talent one, sponser by the state its bound to have some result soon or later. same with beach valleyball/valleyball and other sports they don't just train in china, they send their whole team to europe/US/australia to train, and hire the best coach to train them. there are doping in the event, but from what i read, the chinese swimmer is clean for now. this is just one of the many coach who train the chinese swimmer
Possibly genetically modified athletes is one suggestion. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...-altered-make-stronger.html?ito=feeds-newsxml I'm not understanding why Viv, a women's libber, is rooting for the Chinese, attributing that to a blind hatred of the United States I suppose... It is naivete...China regularly practices infanticide on female new borns...regularly aborts female fetuses...as the male in Chinese culture is deemed superior and with the one child per couple rule...couples prefer males. Genetically modifying a human being is right up the alley for the long history of dubious ethics, as practiced by China in international competitions.
well comment like these is why alot people hate american like you. if its win then its win, and they already pass the test so... be a sportsmanship instead a sore loser. kudo to china win on the gold fairly for now. as for female aboration 1 its not relate to topic, 2. you need goto china to know what really going instead sitting on coach, gulping chips, and watch fox news. next thing you know people like you gonna bring in genetically create human for olympic or she has modify alien dna in here system, or china got a hold of phelp gene and modify her gene for swimming
What, are you Chinese or something? I've got news for you...China is an ethically vacuous nation....business, sports...you name it...they cheat at it...and it's State sponsored.
