Unarmed Naked 18 Year Old College Freshmen Shot and Killed By Local Police

This is disgusting and should not be acceptable! If a cop cannot take down an unarmed man without lethal force then he doesn't deserve to be a cop.

This was probably just a kid that got into the wrong drugs and needed to learn a lesson. Not a life threatening criminal that needed to be put down. This cop is a coward.

There is no mention of gender at all. And besides that is not an excuse. Why didn't this officer have a taser? Why didn't this officer call for backup? Why was the officer's first idea to use a gun.

if you have your gun drawn and they keep coming at you, speaking harshly at them isn't going to stop them.

Also, I am curious as to how one 'vertically challenges' an officer (see the next paragraph).

The piece uses the pronoun, He, so we can assume it was a male officer.
There is also mention of how a man, acting in a very strange manner while totally naked, threatened an officer who has his weapon drawn.

There was also mention the dead man was strong.
A well trained wrestler could well inflict life threatening injuries on a man.

Okay. This guy was apparently aggressive and not in his right mind but I would think with a police station right behind you, presumably holding more policemen and tasers, clubs, tear gas and such, there was a better way to handle things. Maybe I'm wrong.

We have no idea what help he had at hand. He might have had no choice. We have no idea how many people were working at a college PD. He might have been alone at the station. He could have been a retired police officer working a second job at a "quieter" area. How many people here at PF would go hand to hand with a madman like this? I'm pretty sure Bill never considered all this.

If you're confronted with an idiot, perhaps high on something and clearly strong, you protect yourself.
What happens if the guy had got the cop's gun and gone on the rampage?
There would be questions about why the cop didn't shoot.

looks like the cop made the right choice in this case. A direct hand to hand would have ended with the cop down and, probably and armed idiot.
Did anyone bother to find anything out about the kid and his wrestling skills or was it easier to ignore facts so you can have a go at the copper?

 

That's how you'd expect a civilain to act. Not a cop. I'd fully understand if a civilain shot him. I would not understand if a cop, trained in hand to hand combat and armed with non-lethal tools and several other trained cops as backup, would find the need to use a gun

 

OR...thie officer could simply yell out for help or use his personal radio (usually attached to shoulder strap).

Well, that's the joy of being a Monday Morning QB. You get to question the police or military no matter how things turn out.

 

All likely possibilities, but it's also possible that none of these exigencies existed. We just don't know.

But even if your scenarios are correct any officer carrying a side arm would have been able to shoot someone at close range in the arms or legs, or both, instead of firing a kill shot into the chest as a FIRST resort! Nothing changes that.
