Am I only one more impressed with Oregon's offense than anyone else's?

when you face pathetic defenses, and your opponents offense can't move the ball, of course an offense is going to score.

What will the mighty O do when they face a big and beefy O line, an offense which can run down their throats and has weapons for receivers?

As I've stated before, the mighty O had 2 bites at the SEC apple, the loss to Auburn in the championship and later, the humiliation at the hands of the LSU defense the very next season. I was happy to see A+M as well as Mizzou enter the SEC. Those 2 teams have different styles and makes other SEC teams better by being able to face them. All one needs to do is look at Bama and how Saban learned from their close victory against A+M.

Oregon could benefit from having better competition. But, just like we had to hear all about Boise State for a few years when they went undefeated against High School level teams, we are going to hear about Oregon. There has been a pattern, Ohio State was the anointed one for 2 years and both times, the sacrificial lamb at the feet of the best from the SEC.

IMHO, there is one non SEC team out there today which can defeat Bama and that is FSU. If Bama runs the table, and FSU runs the table, it would be a crime to not have Bama vs FSU

Side note: I've posted here before that it's also a disservice to the student body to send a lesser team against the SEC for the championship. If you could step away from the hype and emotion, did anyone really believe that ND stood a chance against Bama last year? Georgia/Bama would have been the best championship game

This bowl season, given all of the injuries, the SEC will go under .500. That is one of the risks you take when you play against NFL size and capability teams. Georgia is wiped out right now due to injuries, Mizzou lost their QB, SC their QB, FL lost the QB, Bama lost their soon to be playing on Sundays DB. And the list goes on as injuries are much deeper than my short list

    Alabama
    DL Dakota Ball (broken ankle)
    DB Nick Perry (shoulder)
    DB Vinnie Suneri (knee)
    DL Dalvin Tomlinson (knee)

    Arkansas
    DB Will Hines (broken arm)
    DL Robert Thomas (broken leg)
    WR Demetrius Wilson (knee)

    Auburn
    WR Jaylon Denson (knee)

    QB Jeff Driskel (ankle)
    DT Dominique Easley (knee)
    OT Chaz Green (shoulder)
    RB Matt Jones (knee)
    LB Matt Rolin (knee)
    TE Colin Thompson (foot)
    DB Nick Washington (shoulder)

    Georgia
WR Michael Bennett (knee), should return
WR Chris Conley (ankle), should return
RB Todd Gurley (ankle), should return

After seeing Florida State on Saturday I totally agree with that, but I still think Oregon could do it too.

IMHO there are three teams and then there is everyone else. Computer rankings and all that mess aside, I personally believe FSU is the best team in the country. Yes better than Bama. I know this may get SEC's feathers in an uproar, but let us not forget that FSU's defensive coordinator, used to be the DC for, yep, you guessed it, Alabama. And at the end of the dayThe 2 victories over a then 3rd ranked Clemson, and a then ranked 7th Miami teams were not just victories, they were out and out assasinations of the 2 programs. Too bad UF couldn't stay healthyand compete in the SEC somewhat to give FSU that boost it needs to stay ahead of Oregon. In the end, unless Oregon stumbles to Stanford it will be really hard for FSU to recover the number 2 spot in the BCS. This is the year I wish we had the playoff. 1. Bama vs. 4. OSU, 2. FSU(as of now) vs. 3. Oregon (there would be a significant rise in heart attacks per minute in this game nationally)My pick in the end would be FSU winning a close one over Oregon, and then a flat out romp in the title game.

As for my earlier prediction in the thread having to do with who should win the Heisman, well it seems to me from everyone I watch and from what I can see, it seems the old ball coach knew what the hell he was talking about in the first place in stating that Teddy Bridgewater should not even be considered for the Heisman even with the video game numbers, seems there are other guys capable of putting up roughly the same numbers and they aren't playing an easy schedule, I think the top three that I saw going into the weekend were Mariota of Oregon, Manziel of A&M, and Winston from FSU. I don't think I have an arguement against any one of those. I know a lot of SEC fans will clap about Murry and McCarron. They just don't have the numbers for the award as the most outstanding player in college football. Careerwise both are candidates for the college football hall of fame. What those guys have done for their programs is unbelievable. Murray the career yardage leader in the history of the fabled SEC, and McCarron, if does it this year who can argue with a quarterback who won the NC 3 times? Has there even been another?

I have been saying for weeks (multiple weeks) that FSU is real and is the only team which could stand a chance of defeating Bama.

If Oregon is sent against Bama then it will be yet another SEC championship. Oregon has not seen the likes of Bama or FSU this year and frankly, isn't of the same caliber. They are good mind you, but they are not elite.

What we've learned in the SEC this year

Muskrat is not a good coach and UF needs to get rid of him. It was evident last year as well but they had a decent winning season

A+M needs to actively work recruiting defensive players. An injury to Johnny Football and the team is sunk

LSU- Les Miles needs to put his foot down harder on the disruptive players as well as those who are on the field and take the day off at the same time. That is one talent laden team but maybe Miles is getting tired or something. LSU should have been the dominant team this year rising head and shoulders above all else

Bama- listen to the blogs of the "experts" all that you want. When the experts tell you that escaping A+M shows Bama to be weak are full of bull. I'd like to see the mighty Ducks try and stop the A+M offense. Saban just goes about his business and wins games.

SC- what a shame. A head coach who loves the game, loves the kids, loves the school and gets disrespected by an idiot like Clowney. That creates a cancer within the locker room where players begin to believe they are bigger than the program itself

Sure, Clowney will be playing on Sundays and earning $millions but guess what; Spurrier also earns $millions and has done so for a lot longer than Clowney ever will.

For me it is more of a question of does Bama stand a chance to beat FSU. I have no doubt FSU right now would mop the floor with Bama. The only saving grace is that if these 2 teams do meet up in the NC is that Saban would have a month to get ready for FSU, and I don't discount what Saban can do with his boys and 30 days to prepare, its the Boise State exception for me. Give anyone a month to prepare and things can happen. But in the end, FSU would still win IMO.

We will have to agree to disagree on this. IMO Oregon is elite. #1 offense in the country, being run by the best player in the country. They are nearly impossible to stop, that fast break offense will run down a defense and eventually open the flood gates. They are balanced avg 300y passing and 331y rushing, that's a little better than "good". Thursday night we will find out as they take on #5 Stanford.

I disagree, he is a good coach, he's got a top 6 defense in the country, he needs to learn to delegate responsibility to the ACs and hire a better offensive coordinator, preferably one with a personality, who can recruit.

Agreed, having the bookend WR that Johnny does helps him incredibly. Without them he might look average as they have bailed him out of a lot of bad throws, Evans at 6'5" in particular.

A huge disappointment, I could not agree more. LSU should have dominated the SEC. Not sure they would be better than FSU.

I could counter and say I would like to see the A+M defense contend with the Ducks. As far as Saban going about his business, eventually business as usual gets smacked in the mouth by unconventional wisdom.

I agree and disagree. With the departure of Lattimore and Jefferies, I fully expected SC to be down this year, and while Clowney can be an absolute beast at times, he wasn't an every down player and wasn't going to make as much of an impact as everyone thought he was going to. Spurrier doesn't get all the 4 and 5 star recruits anymore, he doesn't have the luxery of being in Florida where the best players come from and can't get those players over the big three down there. I never expected much from Spurrier when he went to SC. I can say he hass exceeded my expectations by building a program that gets national recognition. At the end of the day let's face it, the division of the SEC they play in SC is just not going to reach that elite level.

Furthermore, I will add that the SEC as a whole is down this year. It falls under the theory that what goes up, eventually must come down. Am I saying the SEC's dominance is over, no they are still the best conference in college football, but the foundation is showing wear and tear.

    paging micfranklin to the thread

this isn't asking you to eat crow. You were fooled along with many others. Oregon finally faced an opponent with an O line which can run the ball. The blocked FG made the game interesting, but that's all.

FSU vs Bama is the best game for the fans. If Bama can get by a revenge seeking LSU this weekend then they will run the table. Auburn is good but not good enough to beat Bama.

If Stanford wins the PAC 12 then we'll get Stanford vs OSU and that would be a good game. I would then like to see Oregon vs A+M in a decent bowl game. 2 teams with pathetic defenses running up the score and the last one with the ball wins. It would probably be the most entertaining game.

But that leaves Baylor and Mizzou. Baylor has teeth and Mizzou will be a 2 loss team (SEC championship loss to Bama) but deserving of a BCS bowl game as well. Is a 2 loss Mizzou more deserving of a better bowl game than Oregon or A+M, I think so when you look at the 2 losses, 1 in OT to SC and one to the defending nat'l champion in a conf championship game

I've got a feeling that Bama will drop one of their next few games, and we will be seeing FSU and OSU playing after its all said and done.

it won't be Auburn, so who is left, Miss St? It won't be Mizzou in the SEC championship

Nope, LSU stands in the way of a Bama return to the championship. The players on both teams know that. Which LSU will show up? Which clock mgmt for LSU will show up?

Stanford will jump Ohio State this sunday....

I'm not convinced that undefeated Baylor doesn't jump an undefeated Ohio State before it's all said and done. FSU has a better chance of playing a 1 loss Stanford before an undefeated Ohio State

a 1 loss Clemson gets a BCS bowl before a 2 loss Mizzou....

Hell, Miami, could have 2 losses, (both to FSU) and still be a better BCS at large than Mizzou....

I'd bet money you're wrong about Stanford jumping OSU. It's not like Stanford's loss was to a top team, it was to Utah. Not even counting that OSU is about a full point ahead of Stanford in the BCS and no 1 loss team had ever played in a title game over a undefeated from a BCS conference. This is a OSU team on a 21 game win streak since Meyer came to town. They're not losing to scrubs like Stanford did.

I didn't say they'd play for a title... but it'll be interesting when the BCS comes out this sunday.

I'd prefer OSU #3. That way, if Bama loses.... the creampuff of the top 5 plays FSU for the title.

It's a shame that Ohio state or Notre Dame would have been national champs last year had OSU self-imposed a bowl ban their 6-6 season before they were hired Meyer and drew UF that year that both teams sucked. Clearly, Bama was better,so was Oregon, so was stanford, but all of them had losses so OSU would have been ND's opponent, not Bama

It won't really be that interesting, considering its about mathematically impossible for Stanford to jump OSU. And considering they way Meyer has raped FSU through the years and FSUs unbelievable talent at choking, I believe you should be hoping for a few other things.

I see your location though... lol

I'm no UF fan, but Urban Meyer screwed them. He screwed Utah prior to that. He will screw over OSU as soon as your QB graduates or goes pro. Urban Meyer is a HELLOFA recruitter (Tebow and Cam Newton) but when Cam Newton screwed up at UF and had to leave, UF had to then fill Tebow's spot with Brantley (instead of Newton) and it was clear, that a talented qb in Brantley, but not a wildcat qb, wasn't coached at all and Urban refused to adjust for the talent he had.

but please... when OSU decides to play ANYONE in the top 15 .... let the nation know. the Big 10 is garbage and it's not like OSU is just dominating them.

Yeah, 21 games in a row isn't dominating or anything. If only OSU was more like FSU.

Maybe we should compare the programs.

It's not like OSU has 3 times as many BCS bowl wins as FSU, right? It's not like OSU had more BCS bowl wins and appearances than any other college team, right? Its not like OSU has had 3 times as many National Titles and Heisman winners when compared to FSU, right? We could go on and on...The two programs are not on the same level. One decent year you're having and all the sudden OSU is garbage and FSU is the team to beat, lol. There are about 5 elite coaching positions in college football, and FSU isn't one of them, hence, why Urban Meyer makes about twice what ol' Jimbo does.

Sounds like somebody is forgetting a whole lot of ball games before that one.

21 games in a row against the Big 10 is like being proud that you're the worlds tallest midget.... you're still a midget.

notre Dame is considered an elite coaching spot... yet they hardly ever compete. They were only undefeated last year for the same reason OSU is this year... they play an inferior schedule.

enjoy your mediocraty. You will get yourselves a BCS bowl this year (not the national title one, but a BCS bowl) and you will lose to either Baylor, or Oregon, or Stanford..... BIG.

OSU does not deserve a title shot this year. The Big 10 should not be an auto BCS conference either as the Big 10 champ would have 5 losses in any other conference in the US

depends on how you define inferior.... We were a dynasty through 87-2001. OSU has never been declared one.

OSU started a program 50+ years before FSU did. so yes, more wins and titles are expected....

beyond that.... you had the most recent losing season. Your coaches ignore NCAA violations and brag about winning 21 straight against such "powerhouses" as Mich, and Purdue, and Pedo state.

Have you guys actually played a top 15 opponent in the 21 straight wins you are trying to brag about?

I think FSU can beat Bama or OSU, but out of the two, Bama is the only team that can beat FSU. If AU beats Bama.... that all but garantees FSU the title in January.

Ha! Define inferior however you want. Should we just compare the two schools over the last decade or so? OSU is 6-3 in BCS games, FSU is a pathetic 2-5. Be honest with yourself for a minute and realize comparing the FSU and OSU programs makes you look silly. They are not even close to being on the same level. Boise State, Louisville, and Utah have as many BCS wins as Florida State. Start comparing FSU to them and not the big boys.

why stop when it's convenient to your team... lets go back to 87, and then compare.... lol.

bottom line, you OSU fans actually think the Big 10 is comparable to any other conference in the nation.

name one top 15 team you have beaten in the past 21 games.... just one.

you struggled against a horrible Northwestern.

your team in the hear and now is PATHETIC. But you are the LEAST pathetic in the weakest conference. The only thing I can say about OSU is that you are consistent... something the rest of your conference is not. Being consistent in an weak conference makes you average.... at best.

I'm pulling for OSU though.... And I'm cheering for AU to beat bama. I want the Big 10 to be on display for the dismantling.

I want any confernce to win besides the SEC, and having OSU/FSU garantees that. Had OSU athletic director self-imposed a bowl ban in your 6-6 season prior to bowl game announcements like he should have, you would have played Notre Dame for the title last year. That would have prevented the Bama+11 conference from winning another title that every friggin SEC team with a losing record holds on to when you laugh at how bad their team really is.

But make no mistake about it... OSU and Notre dame were not the best two teams in the country when bowls were announced....

any 1 loss team deserved to be in the title game more than those two teams.

Just like any 1 loss team this year deserves it more than OSU does.

You mean recent history is a convenient argument for my team? LOL. Listen to yourself.

The conference OSU plays in is irrelevant to me. It's a geographicaly convient group of teams, nothing more. The conference a team comes from has zero relevance on the outcome of a ball game. After all, Utah has as many BCS wins as FSU, lol.

listen to you, you think previous years prior to your losing season, makes a difference in voting this year. Enjoy the Fiesta bowl... FSU will be the ones smelling roses

of course it is, because that's what hurts your argument, so lets just ignore those ugly truths, huh? lol
I agree with the fact OSU needs to play in the Big 10 since it obviously can't play in the ACC/SEC/Pac-12 due to geography.... but if your conference can't challenge you, how about instead of picking up Buffalo in your season opener, you look at Oregon, who has proven they are willing to travel and search out teams in the SEC.

what's the word I'm looking for.... IMPRESSIVE.... no, wait.... no it's not.

let me answer my question you are trying to avoid answering with a "I can't remember". you haven't played anyone in the top 15 in 2 seasons.

and I'd be willing to overlook your struggles in one game (that every team has) if you dismantled a top 5 opponent like FSU has done, or even a top 10 team like FSU (again) has done, and bama has too.... twice.

you lose the right to brag about BCS wins in the past when you have a losing season in between the last time you won a BCS game. Doesn't matter if you won one last year though, with regards to what rank you should be this season....

Let's see, after a week that thinned the herd so to speak and leaves us with 4 unbeatens ranked in the top 5, there seems to be an arguement about who should be ranked #2. I'm sorry, there is no arguement. That spot belongs to FSU. There is no discussion. The resume compared to the other schools far outweighs any arguement that can be put forward. FSU is decimating teams, not just teams they should beat, but everyone. With the coup de gras being a complete annihilation of then ranked #3 Clemson, and that is backed up with the complete decimation of then ranked #7 Miami. The only team with a comparable resume is the deservedly #1 ranked Crimson Tide. None of the other relevant unbeatens have an arguement that they are worthy of unseeding either the Tide or the Seminoles at this point. I have been down on Bama this year but after really watching the game this weekend they may be one of the most efficient teams I have ever seen. It is a business as usual approach, and it works for them. I hear the arguements of OSU fans screaming about 21 wins in a row, yada yada yada. So what? Name one signature win THIS YEAR, much less in that span. What you did last year is irrelevant. You're 9-0 for all intents and purposes. So lets take that 9 games and see what you got, you beat a then ranked #22 Northwestern by 10, was Wisconsin ranked when you beat them by 7? So even if OSU wins out, they still have the championship game...against MSU? Pardon me for not being awestruck by your schedule.
