Pretty transparent, I have it place a shortcut on the desktop and it launches to the Uplay game screen checks for updates and has the launch game button. And Uplay is their service not a third party.

I just bought Max Payne 3 for PC on steam. Mainly out of sheer boredom because Im snowed into my house but the reviews say its a great game so Ill see how it goes. I loved the original Max Payne so hopefully this one delivers.

I miss the Syphon Filter series as well, hopefully somebody remakes that series at some point.

Yeah but I had to do the "get a new password" mumbo jumbo because I hadn't used it in so long. Once you are logged in it starts up I was just pissed with all the extra work. STEAM verification should be plenty there is no reason to require an additional app running as well unless you buy it from their website. I don't like running more programs than I need and UPlay and on top of STEAM is just a bit much. I don't mind Origin because those games are unique to Origin and you can't get them on STEAM anyways. I am just referring to games bought on STEAM. There is the whole issue if having to rely on Ubi's servers not crashing which they have a history of. Unlike STEAM which has an offline mode if you can't log into Uplay then you can't play, at least that is what happened the last time I used it.

Thing is, it doesn't prevent pirating.
Far Cry 4 has been available for a couple weeks on the torrent sites.

There really isn't a game out there that isn't available. The only question might be the multiplayer options. For the games that are highly focused on that, then of course pirating is less common.... but still available for the campaign modes.

    I'm with you.
I don't have any games that require that though.
I make sure if a client like Uplay or Origin need to run... I'll buy it outside of Steam.
Or at least make sure I can just take the code outside of Steam.

I had to laugh, sadly if that makes sense, because I found that if I start up Far Cr 4 with STEAM it then starts up UPlay. So I figured I would just start it up with UPlay but then it says it needs to start in STEAM. :wall: There is no way that someone could tell me that they couldn't figure out how to make it require just one of them somehow. I mostly blame Ubisoft and EA for this because of their idiotic insistence on using their own distribution software instead of just using STEAM like everyone else.

The good news is that the servers were down SHOCKING! but I was still able to play the game so they must have addressed that after the Assassin's Creed debacle.

I hesitated even putting Steam on my computer. I hated the idea of having to have some portal running in the background, just to play games.
But, as you know, you don't really have a choice anymore.

Then Ubisoft & EA, went off and created their own. It's stupid.

    How are you liking FC4?
It is by far my favorite of the single-player franchise.
Last night I tried saving a village from an attack (early in the game, forget the name).
When it was over, and people were crying, and dead bodies were laying all over the place... I actually felt bad :(

I felt like Schindler (only a lot less honorable).... "if I could have just saved one more".

Then I turned on the Ferguson coverage and realized things are just fine.

Max Payne was alright but it was never anything spectacular in my opinion.

The first Syphon Filter was fun. Unfortunately the series never evolved with the times and got left behind. Same thing with the Tenchu series.

My roommate just downloaded Shadow of Mordor. Every time I had seen an article or preview on it I pretty much dismissed it thinking it would just be a cheap game masquerading as something more but I got to say that I have been pleasantly surprised by it. The game is very fluid and you just feel like a bad ass running through it. Like you I haven't really been doing the storyline and just been running around fighting everything. I hate the spear throwers.

I got Dragon Age 3 a few weeks back. For some reason I was expecting combat to be more free flow but it's alright. Although I'm still not to far into it I really enjoy the war council segments. Their is a lot of potential that could be done their.

I'm having trouble creating the right character though. No one seems to feel right. I don't know if you or anyone else ever has that problem but for me if they feel out of place then I can't really get to much into it. I wanted to make someone who looked tough and after spending some time in the create a character I finally finished. After a day or so of playing I realized something about him, he looked like Montel Williams. Do you know how awkward it is fighting monsters as a talk show host? I mean don't get me wrong, the potential for an extremely awesome series is in the groundwork on that alone but it didn't really work for me. It's just a lack of good hair options that's the problem.

I am having a blast. I am splitting my time between FC4 and Dragon Age Inq. It has the usual problems of "mission zones" such as when you have to kill something with a shotgun and they give you the basic shotgun. I end up leaving to go back to a safehouse and get a much better shotgun (I paid $200,000+ for it so I am going to use the damn thing) and then restarting the mission over again just because they want to keep you tethered to that spot. I wish they would just get rid of those stupid zones as the missions aren't really any different than any other open world game or MMO I have played.

So far no quick time boss battles which is a huge plus.

I have been doing pretty good so far on the hostage missions, I have only lost one so far and that was because I tried to use a grenade launcher and molitavs on the mission. I would recommend not using explosives on stealth missions. :D

I love the elephants although I hope they nerf them a bit in the next patch. Basically I just find and elephant and charge into whichever outpost or fort I am attacking and then jump off and take cover. The elephant takes care of all the soldiers in outposts and more than half in the forts. Its fun but it makes it a bit to easy and I am playing on hard mode.

I hope that somehow I can mod the ammo limits. They are a bit excessive. 50 grenades seriously? Even if the ammo for the grenade launchers is more expensive its not like there is a shortage of money in this game. You can complete most missions just using the grenade launcher. I wouldn't mind it so much of other enemies used them as well but I have only encountered a couple of baddies using RPGs. I am still on the first map so I hope that they become more common on the second map to equalize it a bit.

The bow and autocross are insanely OP. I think they ignore armor altogether because the bow is by far the best sniper weapon in the game and anyone that has taken archery could tell you that they are only good up to a certain point. I even stopped using the "Predator" which is the high end signature sniper weapon because the bow has more ammo and it frankly one hit kills everything but heavies and those only take three arrows.

Overall though I like the climbing and wingsuit and the gyrycopters are fun as well. I found I can only run this on very high settings though (which is fine because I am not a fan of DoF and some other post processing effects anyways) so I might have to eventually build a new rig. I got over 4 years out of this one so its about time anyways. :)

Ok I have gotten far enough into DA3 to notice one glaring issue. Why can't I join the bad guys and tell the Inquisition to F off? The bad guys are waaaaay cooler.

I've gotten more recently, and I give credit to steam for it. I'd play on my Xbox one more, but the Xbox store is just dumb. Everything is msrp, almost across the board. There are no legitimate sales - xbox gold just has "members only specials" on like ten games that nobody wants.

So I've recently gotten Guns of Icarus (on sale for 3.75 - highly recommend it). I paid 10x as much recently for Civ: beyond earth, and prefer guns of icarus. I'm still playing Heroes and Generals (free game). I got dragon age origins (never played it before) a little while back on steam for five bucks - I've gotten hours of enjoyment out of it.

I don't really have an issue with the mission zones, myself. I think the limits they put on you make the missions tougher, at times.

    Same here, and I agree.

I have lost a bit more than one, but have done pretty well. Even if it takes a few fails first. I love these new missions where upon being noticed, they start killing the hostages.

So the first (and only) time I had that happen, I was using the camera, spotting the enemies and planning... all of a sudden something sent a nearby elephant into a rage, he charged in and took out every one of them. Suddenly I get the cut scene saying I won the outpost undetected. I'm still just standing there, on a rock, far away.
If that happens more, I too will be a bit bugged by it.

One thing I like though... where FC3 allowed you to reset all outposts (cool feature)... FC4 allows you to replay them all individually, in case you want to try again undetected (even cooler feature).

I bought the grenade launcher this weekend, for my sidearm. More for curiosity (and lack of anything else to spend my millions on) ;)
I like it, but you're right that it's too easy to win everything with it.

I was hang gliding, decided to see if I could shoot while hang gliding, well... shot the ground randomly from a good height, to see if I could even see the explosion from that high... and I lost 50 or so KP, lol. Must have hit some civilian, by sheer luck. Decided not to shoot anymore.

I took archery and loved it, but, I have never been a fan of bows in games. Not sure why.
BF4 has this "Phantom" mission thing going on where you have to collect things from various multi-player maps, then find the secret room, and you can collect their Predator type bow.
I have zero interest in this, lol.
I think it's cool they are available, because a lot of people do like them.

That gyro copter is awesome. I use it mostly for getting from one end of a map to the other. I don't tend to fast-travel much, and if things aren't too far, I prefer to walk and take my chances.

4 years isn't bad at all. I just threw a Gigabyte Radeon 9750 w/ 3 GB DDR5 in my rig, and it's working quite well for me. Upgraded MB, mem, and am running games on SSDs, and am enjoying it very much. Prices are great on those things this time of year, especially SSDs.
Next upgrade will be my CPU itself.

Have you tried the syring mission way up in the snowy tops of the mountains? Ugh... I've failed every time, but I know how to fix that.

Have you been to Shangri La yet ?
Beautiful place... won't say anything else until I hear back from ya.

Done two Shangri La missions. They are pretty cool. The "tripping" missions in the Far Cry games have always been a favorite of mine. Do you mean syringe missions where the two pot heads inject you with their experiments.......yeah I did two of those as well. The only mission that I had a really tough time with was the Willis mission where I had to take out one of Pagan's key officers.

I just hate the mission zones because they are so artificial and frankly there really is no need for them. I always pick green plants when I see them since stimpacks are $10,000 a pop. (I know it's rupies but I don't have that key) and occasionally I will see a green plant just outside the mission zone and try and go pick it quicky.........I get that warning and all I want to to is go an get a plant real quick. I have played loads of other open world games with basically the same mission setups and they have never needed them.

I definitely want SSDs. My next build will have a couple of 500 GB drives. They are much cheaper than they were a couple of years ago and their reliability is also much better. A few years ago they had an average of 2.5% failure rate which is horribly bad for computer parts. Right now I have two Raptor 10,000 rpm drives which are pretty fast though.......way faster than the people I know with 7200 rpm drives. I honestly don't know how anyone could use a PC with a 5400 drive. That must take hours just to boot up your computer. ENIAC called and they want their 1940s hard drive back. Fortunately all I need is a new PSU, mobo and CPU and RAM as well. My last build cost me around $2,500 including everything from Newegg of course. My big ass momma monitor was $450 alone so I don't have to worry about that. I figure around $600-700 for the mobo, RAM, PSU and one SSD for now, I will get the other one later on if at all. Normally I run my OS on one disk and keep my games on another disk for performance reasons but from what i have read that isn't necessary for SSDs. I will just use one of my current disks for movies and pics and other data. The vast majority of my disk space is used up by STEAM right now. :p

Yeah.............civilians. I like the loss of karma for killing them but this game makes it really hard not too. :p I don't know how many have died when I am roaming around on my elephant ( I use them more often than the vehicles) and they panic and then run right in front of me, that's game AI for you though. You get so many of those karma missions that it doesn't really matter though. I have level 9 Karma right now. The only part I don't like is the arena. It is taking forever to get to rank 10 so I can get that awesome looking assault rifle the Bushmaster. Can't wait to get to the second map although DA3 has my attention now that the story is starting to pick up.

I did a couple of the missions from the 'syringe brothers', lol. Pretty trippy. Latest one I was running over the mountains, all the wildlife was marked... the grass was rainbow.
(When do we get to shoot those two?)

The mission I was referring to earlier though was in the snowy mountain tops, had to reach a certain point before the bad guys did (Not the Sermon on the Mount where you had to find the 4 boxes). I thought it was syringes, but I don't remember now. I bailed after a half dozen tries because it seemed I needed an RPG to take out a chopper (hope that doesn't spoil anything).

My gaming experience is rather limited, so I don't really have anything to compare to. I guess I've just adjusted.
The one thing I don't like though is how when I kill animals during missions, that are outside that zone, and I complete the mission, it seems like those things disappear and I can't go loot them.

At the moment, I am running my OS, Photoshop/Lightroom and other photo programs, on a 250GB Intel 530 SSD.. along with Battlefield 4 for better MP load times.
Single player stuff like Far Cry is on a secondary HDD. 7200 RPM of course.
But during this holiday online shopping season, I have somehow ended up with a Samsung 840 Pro 240, and a couple more Intel 530 120's. Sitting in boxes on my desk, lol.
Some good deals going on. Saw deal for (2) Crucial 250's for $130 the other day. Figured I didn't need more til I find a use for the ones I have.

The only thing you want to watch on SSDs it they have a "write limit". Meaning the more times you write to them (not read) the closer they get to failing.
On good ones that should last the normal person 5 to 10 years though. Always on my mind though so I limit what goes on them.
I use Rainmeter and wrote a code that blinks a red box every time my SSD is written to. Anal probably but I hate losing stuff.

I love the AI in this game. Sure it has it's issues at times but the randomness is cool. Driving down the road and seeing a tiger taking on a Bear.... or an Eagle picking up a Bharal or Pig, then dropping it because it realized Eagles can't do that.

Yeah, I like the loss of KP too. Makes you more careful when saving civvies them from Pirates, Eagles and Leopards. Can't just run & gun and hope for the best anymore.

Another thing I like is that roaming hiker who lets you buy/sell and ammo-up, instead of having to find your way to an outpost all the time.
What I hate though, is when I'm running to him to fill up... a Tiger or civilian vehicle take him out just before I get to him.

I think I lost KP once then also... I was a bit upset at that driver. ;)

But seriously... how soon do we get to shoot the Marijuana-addicted syringe bros. ? lol

I just want to shoot Amita and Sebile sp? I can't stand either of them. I wanna join up with Pagan Min for crying out loud. :machinegun:

Yeah the write limit was another thing but since you don't have to defrag them anymore unless you are literally installing and uninstalling programs all the time then it shouldn't be an issue.

Doesn't your case already have a light that indicates hard disk usage? All the ones I used had that of course I pretty much use Coolermaster or Antec.

Lol, I'm not to that point yet. He (Sabal?) can go, he' a bit whiny... but I still have a crush on Amita. Yum. (I'm angling for a "Citra" moment with her) ;)

It's under the desk, and to be honest the light was more just a coding practice than an actual need to see when it's writing.
Because, as you agree, there really shouldn't be any issues. Technology will be improving a lot faster than my drives will be dying, so I'm sure they'll have plenty of life left when I am done using them.

One annoyance I do have is the freaking radio DJ. What are there... like 3 monologues in the game? I get so tired of hearing him that I walk more than I drive now, lol.
I know the music is "fitting"... but even it gets annoying. I remember FC3 had a way to switch stations....guess I should look at my key bindings and see if it's possible.

Another reason why I prefer elephants. :gop: It seems that some of his monologue is tied to specific vehicles. I only hear certain things when I am in those little three wheel doohickeys.

Citra from FC3 was waaaay hotter than Amita. My biggest gripe is that she literally equates heroine production with women's rights. In case she didn't notice drug cartels don't really treat their women very well. Sabal is stuck in the past with all the tradition and stuff and he talks a good game but he seems a little bit to "honorable" to be good. It screams inevitable plot twist where at some point he is going to do something really bad in the name of tradition or religion or something. Maybe they will have a big Kali temple with human sacrifices like in Indiana Jones.

I still miss the deep Africa jungle/savannah setting from Far Cry 2. Despite it being 8 years old now that game looked better to me with their deep foreboding atmosphere. The only thing that really sucked in FC2 was the grass which just looked weird but the rest of the game world design seemed superior. I of course much prefer the gameplay in the 3 and 4 though.

Finally got my necromancer in DA Inquistion so I am playing that right now. :) They really made up for the last travesty of a game.

Are any of you running FarCry 4 on PC? If so how is it performing and what are your system specs? I've debated on picking it up but I want to make sure it'll actually run smoothly with decent settings. I know Ubisoft is known for giving PC ports the middle finger so I'm a bit skeptical as to how it will run.

I'm running it on an i5, gtx650ti (2gigs) and 14gigs of ram. Everything is on high and runs smooth. The game play is losing me to Lego Batman 3 but the only FC I liked was 3, so that is more me then the game

I have an i7 at 3.2, 6 GB RAM and a GT580 with 3 GBVRAM (normal 580s have only 2GB) and the game runs on very high settings with a few settings set to ultra. It looks fantastic and runs very smoothly on my PC. It does slow down if I put everything on ultra but to be honest I don't like a lot of post processing like DoF or motion blur anyways so I wouldn't run that even if I could.

I got sidetracked as well with Dragon Age Inq. Finally got my necromancer class and fought my first dragon. :)

I see I'm late to this, but here's another confirmation...

AMD 965 X4 (because I haven't installed my new CPU yet), 16GB ram, G'Byte Radeon 7950 w/3GB DDR5. Runs quite smooth for me.

I have heard others comment on the Ubisoft ports, but what kind of examples can anyone give me? I'm not a console guy, so I don't have any knowledge on this.
And other than the opening to AC:Black Flag.... Far Cry 3/4 are the only Ubisoft games I've played.

My only issue with the game is the bugs.
Go into a room to talk to 2 different people separately so I can choose which one to work for (Sabal and Amitra)... but Amitra is facing a wall so I can't get the "talk" option.
Also, had Amitra call me on the radio for help, but then left no mark on the map on where to find her.... days ago.... she's probably a goner by now :(

And if one more angry Elephant or Rhino takes out the bad guys for me on my missions.... I'm gonna start playing for their side and just hunt good guys.
