Leave them alone. Who cares what they say? Damn right, schools that receive funding cannot establish religion - yet they can deny free speech rights? (*)(*)(*)(*) the left is so inconsistent.
I think they probably read the article the other day about an Illinois public high school holding a 'blacks only' assembly with the theme 'Black Lives Matter'...........this was their way of similarly supporting 'self-segregation'
State funded....as in taxpayers are funding it? Well, then guess what? The school has to tow the line for "funding" and that doesn't include housing filthy racists or putting up with hate speech.......
Talk about unintended consequences.........due to the immediate closing of the SAE house........without an investigation or discussion of the incident..........the SAE's black chef is without a job..........
See how liberal the SAEs really are.........they let Jews into their fraternity because they know Jews don't have their own fraternities to join............
Who did they intimidate? Oh that's right the guy who recorded the two members standing there, wait he was intimidated because he wasn't even voting. - - - Updated - - - Can you show a black fraternity chatting the same thing about whites.
What if a white a fraternity or sorority is playing the same rap song at a party about popping caps at crackers should they be disbanded and banned?
So you think people shouldn't face consequences for their actions if the subject of those actions is something you personally agree with? Oh man... how... expected of a rabid conservative. Next you will be making the old "they were just boys havin sum fun" excuse for this.
The fact the KKK can still march and get police protection during said marches for that matter blows your argument out of the water.
Number one conservative defending the indefensible and saying people objecting to being called (*)(*)(*)(*)(*)(*)s should just lighten up and not be so "PC". All those Jews in Germany should have just relaxed over being called untermensch, I guess, nobody really meant any harm by it Though I do begin to see why conservatives are so against "PC". PC is, at the bottom, just good manners, and good manners implies one is not a boorish lout, something which I've noticed many conservatives seem proud of.
This is the kind of thing that I can't stand in response to actions like these. Yes, the chant was offensive and inappropriate. But to kick the students out of the school? It's been said so many times before that 'diversity of ideas' is of value to universities, but it's obvious that so many people don't value that. Instead they believe that the expression of any view they deplore should result in the expulsion of students, punitive actions against them, etc. Don't try to fool yourselves into believing that suppression of racist speech of this sort is any different than the suppression of civil rights activism, or of Communism, etc. The only difference is which views such people choose to deplore.
AFAICT the school isn't doing anything, The fraternity is kicking them out and they have every right to. A fraternity is definitely not open to everyone. I've always wondered how any fraternities survived the 60's anyway. They're nothing but underage drinking clubs for wealthy layabouts. Were my kid to join one he'd be leaving college to find a job in the same month.
Oklahoma Sigma Alpha Epsilon: University President Severs Ties With Frat, Sorority Also Investigates yeah that's hardly the case. You mean he'd be cutoff? That sounds more like the family dynamic most people associate with fraternities than the reality I've seen from most fraternity members.
Does anybody really give a crap about this? Another secret cell phone exposure. People should move out of their parent's basements, get a job and join the real world. And stop letting the media lead them around. Freedom of speech is a real thing even if it offends some.
You must have completely missed Boren's presser. He went on. And on. And on. And now it comes out the guys in the video didn't even live in the frat house. Or so says Barry Switzer, who thinks this has been handled poorly.
Freedom of speech is not freedom from consequences there is no violation of the 1st amendment here. - - - Updated - - - sorry diversity of ideas does not included implies threats of lynching...
I'm a little bit torn on the potential for expulsion. On the one hand, you're technically an adult in college and you need to be held responsible for your actions and know that (*)(*)(*)(*) like this is NEVER acceptable and you'll pay if you do it, especially when video phones exist. At the same time why kick them out of school when stripping them of their frat and letting them get shamed in front of the school sounds far worse?
I'm torn too. While their drunken song was very offensive.... this is a public uni, correct? how is this not protected under free speech? Unpopular speech is the speech that we need to protect the most. If this video prevents one of these kids from getting a job in the future... that's a consequence, for sure. but to have OU expell them for the disgusting speech seems to go against the freedoms of the country. Now, with that said... if my child was involved in this incident, they would not go back to OU ever again.... I would have them at another university as quickly and as quietly as I could.
