sometimes there isn't much of a difference, between cops and thugs.

this was a simple not using a traffic signal stop, all the officer had to do was write the ticket and be on his way, no reason to escalate this over the driver smoking a cigarette

 

He was absolutely a jerk cop and he was agitated. But when told to put out the cigarette, her best option was to comply. Why try to further agitate an angry, unprofessional cop ? It would have been better for her to comply and file a complaint later. And this is exactly where I blame the thug culture which is immediately standoffish to cops and is willing to step up to an officer with a gun. Even if the cop was in the wrong, acting thug results in no good things for the thug. It's better to deescalate and file a complaint later. Bad cops need to be removed from their duties, but in that moment, it's best to walk away unscathed.

all he needed to do is get her license and registration, then give her summons.

Yes,but if every citizen rolls over and plays dead for unprofessional cops they will never learn to be professionals. Those after the fact filed complaints end up in the trash bin.

 

It is always suspect when an inmate dies in custody, and should be investigated with a fine tooth comb. I knew a young man who died in jail many years ago. They said he hung himself from the top bunk of the bed. Problem is the top bunk was only about 5 foot tall and this guy was at least 6 foot tall. So how did he hang himself?
I'm going to be keeping an eye on this case.

 

I do not disagree, she too could of handled this better had she not become so upset, if she was a hired citizen driver, I would fire her too

she was not receiving a pay check for her role in this, he was, he was supposed to be the professional

I have a feeling Sandra Bland's family is going to be coming into some money via a law suit. It's just tragic that they had to lose their family member in the process.

 

I agree with a call for an investigation. Thorough.

Not a doctor or anything but it is possible for a person to self strangulate themselves. It's different than hanging but just as lethal.

this is horrible advice. the best option is to walk away, right ? In that moment, she needed to comply to avoid enraging a bad cop. It's common sense. Bad cops aren't going to become good by standing up to them. They must be removed from their duties.

 

why defend the cop for behaving badly?

fire the cop, end of story

the suicide just brings awareness to the issue, otherwise no one would of gave this cops bad actions a second look, now that we are looking, lets make sure the cop is fired for his actions

could she have tried harder to make this bad cop happy, sure, I would of.. but that was then, this is now, we can make sure this doesn't happen to anyone else by that cop, wont help her, but may help others

i'm not defending the cop - i'm saying, if you're confronted by a bad cop looking for a fight, it's best to avoid giving him what he wants and to file a complaint later.

Fact of the matter is, that was an unlawful order. Cigarettes are still lawful in this country and she wasn't smoking in a designated no-smoking area; she was smoking in HER own car.

 

I don't think anyone would suggest it's in your best interest to mouth off to an unprofessional cop.
I think what most would suggest is cops should start behaving more professional.

Right from the get go he had a right to pull her over. A right. But did he really need too? I'd be pissed too if some cop pulled me over for not signaling when they are the only car on the road. I have three mirrors in my vehicles. Cops aren't the only ones who know how to drive. Now if her lane change had almost caused an accident by all means pull her over and see what she's thinking.

He was a rookie cop with an attitude. There needs to be a way for someone in authority to tame these cops.
I've met a few jack booted thugs in my time. I've also been arrested by cops and we smile and shake hands at the end of the affair. There's no need for police to escalate beyond lawful bounds. They have the right to protect themselves by whatever means necessary. They don't have the right to humiliate citizens for fun.
