Long time watcher of this forum and glad to be here.
I may have something to add or not.
I have a thing for women that like real men!
Not looking to date as my dance card is full.
But, I do respect the woman's point of view. I love ladies!

Hey. What was the breaking point that turned you into an ex liberal, if you don't mind me asking?

I second that. I sometimes hear that people are liberal when young and conservative when old. Though most people I've known didn't really change politically in the past 20 years - conservatives and liberals alike.

Yes, when our brains mature we become more thoughtful and analytical about the world. Not always though; sometimes 'liberal' is a genetic condition, then you're liberal for ever and ever, Amen.

Considering the fact that academics tend to be liberal, I kind of doubt "thoughtful and analytical" is what determines how liberal or conservative somebody is. Most of it stems from what we value and the uncertainty that exists surrounding many issues. I have definitely seen intelligent and stupid people on both sides. I approach almost everything analytically and anti-emotionally. That approach leads to the conclusion that both sides have different blind spots, depending upon the issue, whether its liberals' irrational fear of guns or conservatives' irrational fear of gay people.

In truth, it's not necessarily that people "become" conservative when old, it's that society is very fluid and tends to flow liberal as time progresses. Older people, in comparison with younger people, tend to appear conservative even if they leaned liberal when younger.

That's about how I see it. When you are in your 20s and 30s you might think "this is about as liberal as I want to get". Then society slips out from beneath you and you become a stodgy old Republican reactionary.

Older people see the mistakes the young are making and remember when they made the same mistakes. Wise older people let the young make mistakes then open a dialog where they can educate the young and the young can educate them.

Even a moderately conservative older person today would be seen as solidly liberal 30 years or more ago.

The mind atrophies with the onset of cynicism thus grouchy, mean-spirited, anti-others conservatism flourishes.

I agree...Our society has gone radically left so even a moderate conservative is labeled as far right.

Bad news for you. There is a correlation between educational level and likelihood a person will be liberal. Republicans really are dumber than Democrats.

Better read it again*, Business Insider isn't the source.

Well why didn't you give the source then? Was it a small-minded, smart-arsed subterfuge on your part to get one over on me?

Well I overlooked it because text-wise I was focussing upon the salient point that you raised. I expect that's what you hoped I'd do.

More like gradually left.except for that spike when the evangelists saw a rise to power. But even that's waning.

Really, let's test all those welfare check receiving democrats in the inner cities. Seems liberal is more tied to those who want something with others money.

No, when some people's brains "mature" it's like the arteries up there must be hardening, they become hidebound and against anything new. Also, a lot of them assess the huge failures their lives have become and decide to blame it on anyone but themselves. Liberals start out optimistic and become successful because their minds are positive and open to new things. They take advantage of the fact that the major component of modern life is change. Conservatives are losers from the get go and it gets worse as they go along, dreaming their lives away pining for "good old days" which never really existed and trying to turn back time, which can't be done.

In other words, you have nothing to support your opinion that republicans are dumber.
