By the time they get something like this in operational service, the USAF/USN will have X-wings

And I'd say you're are grossly ignorant and delusional or simply not honest. Who is this "mainstream media"? The fact is, unlike your beloved Mother Russia, the Western media isn't owned or controlled by the state or any one person and there are a multitude of media sources.

Man did this thread go off topic, like usual ....

Why is it so exciting that Russia has a 6G fighter concept?

The US has had this for half a decade and countries like Japan, France, UK and China have had their "concepts" for a while.

Let's see who builds what, it is fun to talk about though!

USAF plans to have operational 360 degree lasers on board fighter jets by 2020. Going to be interesting to see what direct weapons systems do to missile tech advancement.

Because there are people who are paid by Russia to place this into internet forums. No one really cares what Russia "Plans" as it is clear they plan a very many things that never come to pass....but, it would seem ordinary people in Russia need to feel good about how superpowered their country is.

But how do you know what is actually in the missile tubes after all the US is known for it's black projects and if the US was going to attack it would want an element of surprise.

What is proposed (Russian?) is hypersonic - above mac. 5

Stealth with a limit of around mac. 2 to 2.5 in a short dash. The faster the jet flies the hotter the plastics & RAM materials get that are used to manufacture stealth aircraft. New materials have to be developed for faster speeds.

The definition of what constitutes a sixth generation aircraft does not have to be the same for the Americans, French or Russians just that it meets the requirements of their respective armed forces.

Would the sixth generation stealth fighter with the laser be the size of a 747 jumbo jet airliner. To make it smaller would require one of Alpha's warm fusion reactors or some sort of small device to store enough energy (1MW) for a single shot.

Hypersonic flight technology has been around since the 60's. The first hypersonic aircraft was the US X-15.

And you think Mother Russia can develop these technologies? The US already has deployed supersonic stealth aircraft which can cruise at super sonic speeds. This aircraft is very expensive, and the reason the US is not making more is because there is no other aircraft on the planet which can rival them. The technology is here, they only one who has it is the US.

If we want to be honest, we can't have a different set of word meanings for everyone who has a need to deceive people. Words have meanings. For Mother Russia to misrepresent material facts isn't honest.

No. US laser technology is very advanced. That's why the US Navy has deployed laser weapons on its ships.. It's the only nation to have deployed laser weapons.

Your clutching at straws with that one, there's a difference between a crude rocket test plane dropped from a bomber and an air breathing scramjet powered mass produced fighter. :roflol:

    A
The US is already developing a sixth generation fighter for the very reason that China & Russia have nearly finished developing fifth generation fighters and all the technology that goes with it.

You could for example apply the definition of fifth generation as per the F-22 to the F-35 and the F-35 would obviously not be a fifth generation fighter because it does not technically supercruise. The F-22 & F-35 have different intended primary roles and IMHO the F-35 is fifth generation fighter with differences in the definition.

A ship is a lot bigger than a fighter plane.

Really.....? I'm clutching at straws? :roflol: As I previously wrote and demonstrated, supersonic flight has been around for decades. It isn't new. Supersonic stealth aircraft is new to Mother Russia and the Chinese, but it isn't new to the US.

PS: The X-15 program was canceled decades ago, and the unfortunate fact for you it is was the first supersonic aircraft.

The US deployed 5th generation aircraft more than a decade ago. Russia still hasn't deployed 5th generation aircraft.

They do have supercruise and they are 5th generation fighters and they are unrivaled. We don't have an exception for Mother Russia. Definitions are definitions.

Not necessarily, some planes are larger than ships. These lasers can run on as little as 15 kilowatts. That's small enough to fit into a fighter aircraft. You don't need big generators.

Do you have the slightest idea of what a HYPERSONIC jet aircraft is?
    http://science.howstuffworks.com/transport/flight/modern/hypersonic-plane.htm
    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-3596220/Superjet-technology-nears-reality-Australia-test.html
The whole point in the US developing a sixth generation fighter now is to stay ahead of it's competitors as opposed to waiting for them to catch up. The F-22 air superiority prioritized fighter was introduced into service as you said more than a decade ago but congress stopped production at only 188 aircraft.

Nobody disputes the supercruise ability of the F-22 which is sustained supersonic flight without the use of afterburners in level flight.
The F-35 requires an occasional use of the afterburners to stay in supersonic flight & therefore does not supercruise. When the F-35 gets the more advanced & powerful variable cycle engine being developed by GE it will supercruise by the same definition as the F-22 does.

That sounds like an industrial laser. A laser beam loses strength rapidly as it passes through the atmosphere and a military laser designed shoot down an aircraft or missile (as opposed to detect or blind them) requires a huge power source to compensate.

I think the question here is, can you read? I suggest you read again. I said supersonic. Once again you have created as straw man.

As I previously pointed out if the US is limiting production of the F-22 because it is unrivaled, as is the case, then why would it develop a 6th generation fighter to stay ahead of its competitors? The US is already ahead of its competitors. As previously pointed out the US has 5th generation fighters for more than a decade. It's competitors have yet to deploy a single 5th generation fighter.

Did you not see the previously referenced demonstrations?

"Trolls from Olgino" -is an internet slang term which appeared in late 2014, referring to a series of fake accounts registered on major discussion boards (social networks, online newspaper sites, video hosting services, etc.) that were used for promoting the Russian point of view in topics involving Ukraine and the Middle East. Stemming from an international article, published in December 2014, the term gained worldwide media attention by June 2015, when one of the offices of a Russian company named "Internet Research Agency", based in Saint Petersburg, was exposed with data from fake accounts used for internet trolling. Subsequently, there were news reports of individuals receiving monetary compensation for performing these tasks. -Wikipedia

America's military technology has always been a few steps ahead of Russia's....and there's no indication that this trend will change anytime soon. And yes....the F-22 & F-35 are the premier fighter in the world today.

"You may succeed in silencing me but that silence comes at a price. You have shown yourself to be as barbaric and ruthless as your most hostile critics have claimed. You have shown yourself to have no respect for life, liberty or any civilized value. You have shown yourself to be unworthy of your office, to be unworthy of the trust of civilized men and women. You may succeed in silencing one man but the howl of protest from around the world will reverberate, Mr Putin, in your ears for the rest of your life. May God forgive you for what you have done, not only to me but to beloved Russia and its people". -Alexander Litvinenko, former KGB agent, on his death bed, accusing Putin of organizing his murder, as well as other crimes including terrorism and pedophilia.

If you refer to the words of a traitor, it means that you have no argument.

Litvinenko - a traitor. He made his choice, and lost. He died as a lousy dog. Such a fate awaits all traitors. British intelligence agencies did the job instead of the KGB. Well done.
