Hello I'm an African American 13 year old in seventh grade and today I had been notified that i would not be welcome in school tomorrow. I am suspended because of my opinions that i shared in our social studies class that sparked controversy throughout the school. In our social studies class the topic of BLM came up and i bluntly said that it was a violent movement. In the same class the topic of illegal immigration came up as well and several people in the class defended illegal immigration. I voiced my opinion once again and was shot down immediately. For the rest of the day i was harassed with threats to hurt me after school and constant yelling. Today i was pulled out of all my classes and suspended for "Cultural Intolerance". I feel like the punishment was unjust for having controversial opinions. That's all thanks for reading <3.

Wow! What do your parents say about this?

From what I've read here, you're an independent thinker and for your sake, don't change. Sounds like your school is one of many who's purpose is to brain-wash the students into obedient little liberals.

Good luck and let me know how you're doing.........

Yeah my school regularly has social justice warriors come in and speak during morning meetings and any questioning of the ideas the SJWs support usually ends in some sort of punishment. My parents believe it's my fault for talking about politics in school especially when they are controversial topics.

Listening to a student tell you why they were suspended or disciplined, is like expecting an employee to accurately perceive and communicate why they were fired. They rarely see it accurately and even less often say it accurately. There may be a little more to this. It maybe that it was either how the OP writer said it, or that that he did not shut up when the teacher thought it prudent to move things along before things got too heated.

But just as the poster above, it is great that you have independent views and are not afraid to speak up, but maturity may help you temper your enthusiasm if the cues come from authority that you have gone past controversial to distracting.

That's certainly unfortunate! Good job standing up for yourself and defending your views, and also good job not letting the school bully or coerce you into changing your thinking.

It doesn't take much to get suspended. I know someone who got into trouble with his school for "Cyber Bullying" a student just because he unfriended her when she was stirring up a pot of crap and then claiming to be a victim when the people responded to what she was saying. The person I know didn't even respond. He just unfriended her so he would not have to see her drama. That was enough.

Well, well! How right you are, Mr. Teacher, Sir! I absolutely stand corrected!

You feel better now? Your mind at ease, so you can totally relax and sleep like a drunk, instead of niggling tho'ts penetrating your brain over my misspelled word and keeping your awake? I sure hope so.....now that's what I'm going to do.....SLEEP. Good nite!

I thought there was an age requirement to post on this message board.
Like 16 yrs. of age minimum. If that.
There is no way this message board should accept as member if not at least
    a senior in high school.

I question why a 13 year old is posting here but it has a ring of authenticity. I got kicked out of class several time in college, the first time was stating that FDR was our first socialist president. Witch didn't have a sense of humor.

Do you have a good relationship w/your parents? If not, do your part on working on that. Meanwhile, your parents should really listen to you and realize this is a concern of yours and that you're not the one who turned the class into discussing politics - it's the teacher who's in charge of that.

He came here in a respectful manner, asking for advice. For a 13 yr old, I think that's pretty remarkable.

If you don't like his thread, then stay out of it........

Please don't take offense.. People often get bent out of shape when I offer a spelling correction, but I'm just trying to help. It bothers me to see people making such mistakes, and so commonly at that. So sue me ;)

Ok, I'll be very truthful here - I didn't take offense. I took .....how do I explain it? Well, I took pity, sympathy. To me, it's such a waste of time to go thru someone's post and post spelling corrections to them. What the hell for? There's a saying 'don't sweat the small stuff' which I've always believed in and I think someone misspelling is definitely 'small stuff'.........anyway, that's why I posted a good natured joke to you. All is good!

    It's a Frame-up post/Thread.No 7th grader has that grammatical ability at
composing precise sentence structure within a topic.I'm sorry ... it's just not
done.Plus one is 12 years old in 7th grade.
Not too many college kids are 19 when they enter college. In fact, some are
    19 when they graduate.
Shame on all the posters here who bought into this Frame-up post.
It's possibly a way to have this message board looked at by the Authorities.
Posting racially charged { or determined to be charged } comments about a
Movement that is Racially charged. No grade schooler should be engaged
in highly charged controversial debates, such as BLM.
    Grade Schoolers have to concentrate on their 3 R's { Readin,Writin' and Rithmetic }
There are no Debate classes taught in grade school.

Punctuation is also important. You do realize you put the period belonging with your closing sentence ("So sue me") with the period closing your very first sentence ("Please don't take offense.."), don't you? What a wonderfully obnoxious world this can be if everyone spends time correcting each other and inviting lawsuits. Have a nice day! :)

You aren't different or controversial. Your'e simply right. If however, that makes you controversial and different in others opinions. Then their opinions and hatred towards you are a lamentable expose of their own digression. If you think that you need to keep it to yourself for the sake of peace, then do it. But within yourself, stay the course.

Being suspended for expressing controversial opinions is indeed unjust, just so long as the expression is made in a civil, and not an immoral or taunting, manner. Such cases have been brought to the Supreme Court and usually are accompanied by intense media attention. Local television stations love to sink their teeth into stories like this one. If you are 100%, then being a victim of peer bullying and administrative intolerance should get you some powerful allies. But going against the grain is never easy. Speaking out against George Bush's Iraq War was very unpopular in the last decade, and invited being threatened and called all kinds of vile names. Now the leading Republican candidate trashes that war and the Republican President who took us there. Who'd have thought that might happen? Patience, my dear, is a virtue and sometimes a saving grace.

When I was a kid we were lectured to and generally were not encouraged to add our own opinion. Myself, I am for a civil exchange of opinions and think it is an important part of the learning process.

This is much like my initial reaction. I was 11 in 7th grade. But there are those who are held back in elementary school. Seems to me such a suspension would make the local news, and the parents would have a valid lawsuit against the school.

    I don't buy it.

"I had been notified that i would not be welcome in school tomorrow."

    "that sparked controversy"

"several people in the class defended"

Doesn't sound like a 7th grader to me.

I don't know, if this site legally allows minors, then they can't collect and store certain data on their users I think, so not a bad thing

I applaud you standing up for your principles. 'Cultural intolerance' is a cover (IMO) for the school not wanting the liability of you getting attacked and physically hurt by those threatening you. Easier to 'suspend' 1 student than a whole school I guess. (Disclaimer: IF the post is actually real)
