No, Trump lost because he naively thought that the members of Congress would put the needs of the people first and politics second. Oops, Washington doesn't work that way. Politics always comes first. Trump learned something here. Politics and business occupy separate zoos.

How could the Democrats have sabotaged it? The GOP wrote it the bill and they did not create a bi-partisan bill, and they did not invite Democrats to help write it.

AMAC and those 11 key Conservative groups said it was a good start. AMAC made it simple for the Freedom Caucus to understand. But as you can see the wannabe Democrats just couldn't figure it out.

I don't think this is the last of it.

After all, the President doesn't command Congress he merely suggests.

And do you mean the mandates Trump halted via EO go back into effect?

    I haven't heard that.

I've just watched Don's press conf and he said more than once "the Democrats didn't give us a single vote", as if implying they sabotaged the Bill.
But the bottom line is- IS OBAMACARE AS BAD AS HE SAYS IT IS?
I'm a Brit so I'm asking PF members to help me understand.

How can Trumps EOs stand without a replacement. BO care relies on the Mandate. People are SOL. If they don't have it.....they will have to pay the fine. Until it completely collapses.

Thank God! Live or die Let it stand on it's own! Better to take a beating for failing then to saddle the GOP with something that would stained them for decades!!!

Who is the blame for the the TrumpCare bill to fail?

Blame it on the Bossa Nova.

Give credit where credit is due: Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, and Barack Obama own the ACA cluster fudge--lock, stock, and barrel.

Today, Paul Ryan stepped up to the cliff's edge by nearly calling for a vote, that if passed, would do nothing more than try to fix a gargantuan problem with a bandaid. Will Paul Ryan, Mitch McConnell, and Donald Trump put a bandaid on ObamaCare or rip the existing bandaid off at one fell swoop?

The 2018 election season could get ugly for control of the house if they get this wrong...

One thing this exposes; the gop is going to have to change. The people like parts of obamacare. They wont win elections anymore if they run on repealing it.

Not mine, but a friend expresses my sentiments:

"The GOP had 7 years to find a replacement plan that they could agree on.

    But couldn't.

Their attempt here was everything that they lied about the Affordable Care Act- it was rushed, it had no bipartisan support, the GOP used every tactic to try to ram this through the House that the Right whined about the AFA, and my favorite- they tried to ram it through without members even reading the entire bill.

    Epic failure.

Imagine if Republicans were more concerned about improving healthcare- rather than being able to claim they 'repealed Obamacare'- if they focused on fixing the parts of the Affordable Care Act they claim isn't working, they could get bipartisan support."

It just got ugly as half the Freedom Caucus wont be returning.....they just stabbed AMAC and 11 other Key Conservative groups in the back.

The Wannabe Democrats will pay the price in 2018 and will not be a future problem for the Repubs.

Typically EOs stand for the duration of a Presidency unless otherwise declared or acted upon, correct?

I actually pondered what Trump could do on this matter via EO outside of Congress.

Did he not direct the various fed offices to lessen the impact of the "punishment mandate" with an EO in his first dew days in office?

Is that EO going to change now?

    I sure hope not.

The AHCA was a terrible bill from almost any perspective. Conservatives were correct in saying it was an entitlement pkg. It was still too expensive despite covering millions fewer than ACA. Alienating millions of voters in the months before 2018 mid-terms is a lot to ask. Trumps own assessment that tax reform should have been taken up first is right on the money. It's very disappointing for me to learn the GOP in fact did not have a plan that delivered as advertised. I'm anxious to see what Rand Paul proposes now that the GOP has to look for "Plan B".

No. No. No. Congressional Democrats weren't taking credit for Trumpcare going off the cliff, they were giving kudos to all of the people across the country who turned out in force letting their reps know how they felt about it.

Not really. His hubris is so bad that he doesn't understand how someone could not support him. Not so much his policies, but HIM.

His hubris drives everything he does, nothing else.

The mandate was associated with the fine and peoples tax returns. I am not sure if it can stand by itself. Or if the President can intervene with a tax penalty.

So they were thanking their Constitutients that had nothing to do with it. That their sounding off in Congress to their Leaders did the trick.

Obviously the Repubs aren't Demo followers.....Leaders.

Still at least you tried to worm the way out of that one

The Dems did nothing. Why should they have voted for a bill to repeal ACA?
