Check out this strategy memo from Clinton's 2007 campaign. The strategy specifies obama's "lack of American roots."

This memo gave birth to the birther movement.

There is no 'consequence' to this. This gets media coverage because its a cheap story and the payoff is relatively good. There is nothing to explain, nothing to research, no terms that need defining and no policies or legal or economic ramifications to explore in depth. On the flip side, folks will click to see what their favorite players will do, and how coaches handle it. This story is not water rights policy or agribusiness subsidies, or the impact of a new negociated contract on the NFL and the owners. Its lazy ass journalism but it is not particularly harmful either. Its just air that people want to turn into smoke to fill space..

The players are the ones being divisive.

I don't want to get into a political debate during a football game.

As far as firing the players, I don't know what the union contract says about this. Personally, I think it's up to the owner. If the owner doesn't want his team to be associated with controversy, then he should fire them. If the owner likes controversy, then don't.

As far as the message the players are making, I agree with them that the US has a history of racism and the laws are not enforced equally across racial lines. However, the US is also the land of opportunity, of which these players are the prime example.

Furthermore, the NFL fan base is 77% white. Now, why would a player who makes his paycheck from people who choose to give him their money each week protest during the game? I think it's just bad timing. Do your protesting some other time. People are sports fans because they are sick of war, crime, politics, etc.

These players are ungrateful. They make millions off the fans who are mostly white and who love these players.

    Show a little appreciation.

Your post is pointless irrelevant and a really poor attempt at a shell game. Trump went birther cuz he's a sleazebag and he was pandering to racists it's pretty much that simple

Not one thing you said changes the fact the birther movement started with Clinton.

I'm trying to wrap my head around your bashing Trump for not being patriotic while supporting people who disrespect the national anthem.

When you mash all the air bubbles out of this thing we see:

    1. Blacks make up approximately 14% of the population of the United States.
    2. Blacks make up approximately 80% of all NFL players.

If I were either a team owner OR an advertiser, I'd be very damned careful what actions I take next. Who goes to NFL football games? Who watches NFL games on network television more...?

And, who buys most of the products advertised during NFL games? PEOPLE VOTE WITH THE PURCHASES THEY MAKE, AND DON'T MAKE....

What are you talking about? I am not watching a game. Maybe you are and can't see that others may not be.

One of my Uncles was shot down in his plane and his body has never been recovered during World War II.

My dad served on a LST that carried many soldiers ashore fighting the Japanese in Okinawa.

My Step-Dad caught a grenade on Okinawa and lost an eye and spent the rest of his life removing shrapnel out of his body.

My Uncle Dave caught up with a machine gun nest in Korea and had to be mustered out .

My brother was a police officer in Detroit and on a daily basis had to deal with domestic disputes, drunks, drug addicts, spend hours in bad weather doing normal police work, been shot at and on top of that have to suffer verbal abuse, spit on, and countless hours in dangerous situations. He also was there to help people who had a heart attack or seizures or give aid and comfort to victims of abuse or death situations. His reward was low pay and long hours.

Oh, say! can you see by the dawn's early light
    What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming;
Whose broad stripes and bright stars, through the perilous fight,
O'er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming?
And the rocket's re d glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there:
Oh, say! does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?

So what is the meaning? What it means is that millions, men and woman, have fought for and many have died to keep our country free. When we stand for the Anthem we are honoring those men and woman. (Nothing more, nothing less) We are thanking all for their service. Every race and nationality has sacrificed someone for our country.

If the players really wanted to make a statement they would gather in Chicago or any inner city and devote some time to helping clean out the crime from those neighborhoods. There will always be bad police officers and they need to be weeded out or charged and convicted if guilty, but honoring Michael Brown or those thugs who brought on confrontation does not win any support from communities.

That's what I think too. NFL players should do their protesting on their own time.

I think it was pretty clear when I quoted what you said
You thinking you have the right to tell other people how to protest is arrogant

These leagues, teams, and players can keep sticking their ignorant noses where they don't belong and they can keep losing fans. Getting political is stupid.

Given that most players are African-American the owners really have no choice. Trump shooting his mouth off is really indefensible and yet you try and defend it. That's something I would only ascribe to Russian Bots.
