A lady that lives a few miles from here had her horse killed by some big animal, she said it was a panther might have been a bear. They are around too. They are going to be more vicious now that their habitat is being destroyed by all the progress(?). Like Joni Mitchells song says, " Pave paradise and put in a parking lot." or something to that effect.

Never pays to cast stones or throw rocks if you live in a glass house.

    The Last Resort
    Eagles
She came from Providence, the one in Rhode Island
Where the old world shadows hang heavy in the air
She packed her hopes and dreams like a refugee
Just as her father came across the sea

She heard about a place people were smilin'
They spoke about the red man's way, how they loved the land
And they came from everywhere to the Great Divide
Seeking a place to stand or a place to hide

Down in the crowded bars out for a good time,
Can't wait to tell you all what it's like up there
And they called it paradise, I don't know why
Somebody laid the mountains low while the town got high

Then the chilly winds blew down across the desert
Through the canyons of the coast to the Malibu
Where the pretty people play hungry for power
To light their neon way and give them things to do

Some rich man came and raped the land, nobody caught 'em
Put up a bunch of ugly boxes and, Jesus, people bought 'em
And they called it paradise, the place to be,
They watched the hazy sun sinking in the sea

You can leave it all behind and sail to Lahaina
Just like the missionaries did so many years ago
They even brought a neon sign 'Jesus is Coming'
Brought the white man's burden down, brought the white man's reign

Who will provide the grand design, what is yours and what is mine?
'Cause there is no more new frontier, we have got to make it here
We satisfy our endless needs and justify our bloody deeds
In the name of destiny and in the name of God

And you can see them there on Sunday morning
Stand up and sing about what it's like up there
They called it paradise, I don't know why
You call some place paradise, kiss it goodbye

I love me some beets. We grow them in our greenhouse. We don’t pick them until we are fixing the meal. I liked the steamed with the skin on. Once they are on the plate, you just rake the skin off with a fork and slice them up. My wife makes a pickled beet/quail egg mix that has whole garlic. Now there is your super food!

Tapped a keg of our homemade old world style hard cider last night. We call it wild cide (wild side). Because we let the wild, naturally occurring yeast that lives on the apple skin do the fermenting. A damn fine cider! Much better than anything you can buy.

Apples that have never been sprayed with poison, hand picked by us at the perfect ripeness, juiced at home and fermented with absolutely zero additives.

An apple has the right amount of juice, the right amount of sugar, it has its own yeast that has the right attenuation to finish not too sweet and not too dry, gives you about 6% ABV, and if you bottle it at the right time it will carbonate itself. Proof God loves us and wants us to be happy!

It looks like another baseball season has come and gone, so yet again we're faced with that perennial dilemma.

What are us old people going to have to talk about all winter?

When we were growing blackberries I made some blackberry wine that was great. It wasn't too sweet or too dry it was just right.

Same as every winter: aches and pains, being cold, and bodily functions.

    Hurray for Houston !!!

Their first World Series win !!!

These games were all close and exciting to watch -- which is unusual for baseball. Normally watching baseball is like watching paint dry or grass grow.

Houston saved their best for last and then exploded early in the 7th game and Los Angeles could not catch up.

I was having warmed up leftover Beef-A-Roni with fruity Sangria fortified with a shot of moonshine and a shot of lime rum. It was a great dinner with a great game.

Try aspirin with ibuprofen and a shot of rum.

    That always works for me.

Take the pills in the morning and the rum in the evening.

Don't take them together (pills and rum) however. That's not safe.

You can do this with frozen berries from the store too.

I have used cherries with the best success.

Cherry wine tastes delicious but you get a spitting headache because unless you age it with wood chips there is no way to remove the trace amounts of toxic alcohols.

The toxins come from the cherry skins which is of course all cellulose. And cellulose makes bad alcohol.

Horses used to do a lot of work for us humans.

Now they mostly recreate or race.

I thought everyone in the "liberal minority" knew that 'what they say in the Bible ain't necessarily true".

Better keep your fingers crossed. ;-)

Grapes are perfect too. As are also cherries.

Yes you definitely need to make sure there was no spraying with insecticide or else you need to peel them first.
