Says the big bad woof, as he snax & chomps on the little lambsey's divey. But Guns are bahhhdd ! Nobody believes a Wolf in Sheep pajamas.
RE: Even though I find the views of gun banners' hypocritical, unconstitutional & seriously flawed, I strongly support their right to express them & will patiently & politely listen without interruption. Otherwise I, too would be a hypocrite because I support our 1st Amendment just as strongly. The Bill of Rights is not a menu from which you can chose your favorites and reject what you don't personally like. They are all interdependent & equally important. To paraphrase a cliche', "Some of my best friends are gun banners."
And if you got your wish and stronger gun law were passed, but the gun violence stats remain basically unchanged, would you advocate for even stronger gun laws?
You are wrong. Look at California gun laws and tell me I am paranoid that my guns will be banned and confiscated.
There isn't any reason to believe those pushing for more gun control have anything other than a total ban as their goal -- as soon as they something they want, they push for something else, and none of them will say how much gun control is "enough". Thus, we don't give an inch.
You say this as though it's news to you. Which is odd. It's not as though most of us aren't openly supportive of total gun bans
Its not news to me at all. Whats new is the banners have finally stopped lying about their intentions.
Agreed. The sad part is, as recent events proved, those gun laws don't work. If the Left didn't have such a fetish for gun control, they might be smart enough to see that these tragedies are a symptom of a nation which doesn't enforce it's rules against criminals nor has laws sufficient to help our nation's mentally ill nor enforce laws against mentally ill accessing firearms.
And if you got your wish for stronger gun laws, and there is still plenty of gun violence, will you be calling for even stronger gun laws?
Good to see you admit it. It finally reveals the dishonesty and corrupt nature at the heart of the gun control movement.
Some folks here think there is no effort to ban guns altogether. The fact is that for many years columnists and the political elite of the left have expressed their feeling on this subject. Here is little throwback of the left's quotes over the years....... Banning guns is an idea whose time has come. Joseph Biden quoted by AP U.S. Senator 1993-11-18 For target shooting, that's okay. Get a license and go to the range. For defense of the home, that's why we have police departments. James Brady Parade Magazine 1994-06-26 We must get rid of all the guns. Sarah Brady Phil Donahue Show 1994 I don't think there is a Second Amendment right to own a gun. But I think it's a loser political issue. James Carville Clinton-Gore strategist We must be able to arrest people before they commit crimes. By registering guns and knowing who has them we can do that... If they have guns they are pretty likely to commit a crime. Mary Ann Carlson State Senator (VT) As you know, my position is we should ban all handguns, get rid of them, no manufacture, no sale, no importation, no transportation, no possession of a handgun. John H. Chafee U.S. Senator (R-RI) I believe all handguns should be abolished. John H. Chafee U.S. Senator (R-RI) 1997-01-09 And we should -- then every community in the country could then start doing major weapon sweeps and then destroying the weapons, not selling them. Bill Clinton "You know the one thing that's wrong with this country? Everyone gets a chance to have their fair say. Bill Clinton 1993-05-29 The constitution is a radical document. It is the job of government to reign in people's rights. Bill Clinton (MTV, 1992 or 1993?) I want to make it as hard as possible. Gun owners would have to be evaluated by how they scored on written and firing tests, and have to pass the tests in order to own a gun. And I would tax the guns, bullets and the license itself very heavily. Jocelyn Elders Mother Jones magazine U.S. Surgeon General 1994-01 If I could have gotten 51 votes in the Senate of the United States for an outright ban, picking up every one of them ... "Mr. and Mrs. America, turn 'em all in," I would have done it. I could not do that. The votes weren't here. Dianne Feinstein 60 Minutes U.S. Senator (D-CA) 1995-02-05 In fact, only police, soldiers and, maybe, licensed target ranges should have handguns. No one else needs one. Michael Gartner WSJ then president of NBC News 1991-01-10 These automatic, semiautomatic handguns and assault weapons, they really have no place in our society. Al Gore Larry King Live U.S. Vice President 1999-09-17 We don't need more concealed weapons in our malls, in our movie theaters, and our streets. We need fewer concealed weapons in our society. Al Gore on concealed weapons licenses, Houston Chronicle U.S. Vice President 1999-05-27
This quote isn't found in the transcript of that interview: http://www.presidency.ucsb.edu/ws/?pid=49995
I have no idea if we are talking about the same interviews. Yours is from 1994 and mine shows 1992 or 1993. However I find it interesting that he clearly shows his anti gun bias.
I assume that we are. The interview clip about the Constitution: "And when we got organized as a country and we wrote a fairly radical Constitution with a radical Bill of Rights, giving a radical amount of individual freedom to Americans, it was assumed that the Americans who had that freedom would use it responsibly. That is, when we set up this country, abuse of people by Government was a big problem. So if you read the Constitution, it's rooted in the desire to limit the ability of—Government's ability to mess with you, because that was a huge problem. It can still be a huge problem." I can agree that the Framers took a radical step. And yes, Bill and Hillary are very much anti gun rights.
Thanks for the link. It's very telling of the Democratic mindset: "...so a lot of people say there's too much personal freedom. When personal freedom's being abused, you have to move to limit it. That's what we did in the announcement I made last weekend on the public housing projects, about how we're going to have weapon sweeps and more things like that to try to make people safer in their communities."
