Where I see the problem is these teams were first organized by large cities. Now practically every rinky dink police department has a team. These teams are expensive with their training and military toys and these departments don't want them sitting around doing nothing. So they are put to use in situations that cause unnecessary escalations of violence.

 

If taxpayers no longer provided all the needs of drug users, the problem would correct itself.

There was an UNVERIFIED phone call of a man POSSIBLY waving a rifle out the window. Did they have the right guy? There was no active shooting at the time and no one shot. What kind of situation did the caller really see?

COPS PUT THEMSELVES INTO THESE SITUATIONS. THEYRE RESPONSIBLE AND NEED TO GIVE PEOPLE THE BENEFIT OF THE DOUBT. They're the ones that physically walk down the hallway and confront an unknown situations. This decision needs to come with the threat you may be shot, BUT YOU HAVE NO RIGHT TO PREEMPTIVELY KILL someone. It's simple. No ones yelling, all is calm, if you're afraid to approach that room, DONT.

If something's amiss or they're afraid, get backup, pellet guns, tazers, flash grenades, whatever you need.

There was not a violent situation, no one was shot, no distress or imminent threat in that building. Not until the cop put that man at gunpoint was there a verified situation.

I'd have that POS cop on murder 1 and have him executed. He put himself in harms way. The moment you do that, the benefit of doubt remains with the citizen until there's a PROVEN threat.

Would you want that? Held at gunpoint by an erratic cop, knowing you're about to get shot. You are about to DIE, because the cop isn't calm, and is going to shoot for any reason he PERCEIVES.

He could have been been safely approached and handcuffed while he was spread eagle'd on the floor

He was repeatedly terrorized by maniacs screaming at him & consciously escalating the situation with

He was commanded to preform an utterly impossible & ridiculous maneuver on pain of Death

He was MURDERED when he stumbles attempting preform the commanded maneuver,
( we see him begin to fall over before the AK opens up on him )

A Fact latter verified -
He had nothing to reach for. Therefore an inadvertent stumble, a failure to preform an impossible command

In my neighborhood suburban swamp area, we did have an incident a few years back when a young guy the next street over said he was going to kill himself and kill cops. So naturally they didn't have 1 or 2 cops with soft body armor knock on his door. That would have been stupid. There were at least 3 local SWAT teams set up with many other cops who sealed off our neighborhood and had the SWAT teams stack outside his house. The crazy dude was taken down without a shot fired. I was glad they were around.

Our local "rinky dink" police forces have regular patrol officers doing their routine duties, and are on standby to link up and form teams. Basic AR rifles, plate carriers, kevlar helmets and ballistic shields are not all that expensive. Maybe 3000 dollars for all that. And a thousand rounds of AR ammo only runs 200 to 300 dollars. Consider that the cost of single police car is around $35,000.

All and all, very cost effective to have SWAT officers on standby.
