Most of the tax increases by democrats are for the rich not the middle class so its not really about my earnings so much. Also those taxes are for things which I might consider to be desirable like better schools, better roads, universal healthcare, cheaper college, and better social security.

they are going to get them from a majority of corporations; the monies saved will go to dividends for the shareholders and bonuses for the executives. Maybe fast food places and other service industry jobs might pop up but that's going to be it.

Doesn't seem to be true, it seems that the federal deduction of state and local taxes were a huge benefit to "progressive" states with the high local and state taxes. When that is factored in, your argument is made trivial.

In 2015, Californians alone saved $100,000,000,000 on federal taxes through the state/local tax deduction. http://www.sacbee.com/news/politics-government/capitol-alert/article188873719.html

    And a second data point - http://www.politifact.com/california/article/2017/feb/14/does-california-give-more-it-gets-dc/
"It found the federal government spent nearly $356 billion in California in fiscal year 2014, for salaries and wages, grants, contracts, retirement benefits and other benefits. That same year, California paid about $369 billion in total federal tax -- or about $13 billion more than it received -- according to the Internal Revenue Service Data Book, 2014."

Assuming California saved $100B in 2014 from the state/local tax deduction, that means that California received $456B from the feds but paid $369B to the feds - making California a big beneficiary of federal largesse.

And I'll bet all the "progressive" states become big time beneficiaries of federal aid when that tax deduction is taken into account.

And Republicans want to cut the minimum wage, cut healthcare support for the poor, cut food stamps for the poor, cut social security for the poor, cut support for their higher education, while raising their taxes. Trump is a bad deal for the poor but hes a very good deal for the rich. For the middle class he is more *meh.*

What part are lies? Republicans literally suggested a healthcare bill that rolled back the Obamacare Medicaid expansion that would have uninsured 15 million people all by itself.

"While raising their taxes"? The bottom 50% only contribute something like 2 or 3% of tax revenue. "The poor" generally aren't paying any income taxes at all -- and yet they get food, housing, phones, healthcare -- I'd say they are getting a pretty good bang for their taxpaying buck, on the backs of the middle and upper-class taxpayers.

Income taxes are only 1/3 of all taxes. You can't make a statement about all taxes by just looking at 1/3. Another fact is that income inequality is very high and the poor don't earn that much so how can you expect them to pay very much in taxes?

The point is that they contribute almost nothing for how much they get in return. Welfare is a bloated monster which is overdue for reform. If this new tax bill expedites welfare reform, that will be one for the win column.

You have not justified your claim that the poor contribute almost nothing. The new tax bill does basically nothing to spending and our welfare is still around. In fact Trump even promised not to cut government welfare programs.
