Consider your comment; If you have a country where millions of people rely on foodstamps(!!) for survival, you might wish for a President who actually cares about such a disgrace of American reality. Alas, Trump is not that person for he wants to evict, en mass, all DACA recipients, many of them who might actually rely on those foodstamps to survive. Thus, consider the irony of your comment. Unless you think all DACA are happily employed? Which means, in that case, there is NO reason to evict them for they make a positive contribution to society and the economy. I hope Trump turns out to be the good Samaritan you wish him to be by keeping DACA in the country. (Foodstamp- dependent or not.) I hope you are okay with your President caring about poverty, even if it includes DACA.
You're wrong. Not budget reconciliation. Needs 60 votes to invoke cloture. As explained already. Not budget reconciliation. Needs 60 votes to invoke cloture. http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/wire...cial-trump-immigration-views-evolved-52425887 http://www.cnn.com/2018/01/18/politics/house-votes-government-shutdown/index.html http://www.truth-out.org/news/item/...rats-vow-to-filibuster-must-pass-funding-bill
It is for the businesses lobbying pols in both parties to make sure there's no effective e-verify program. We could model e-verify on the Nexus pass where legal status is kept in a government database accessed with a reader. Every American and every visa holder would get a card--no card, no work. Not even for domestics or casual labor. Potential employers would have to access the database through readers that are very inexpensive. Get caught hiring an illegal? Pay a big fine. Get caught repeatedly violating the law? Go to jail. Has it crossed your mind the blather about a border wall is a way of distracting attention from a real solution? Half of illegals came in with a visa they're overstaying. Do illegals pay for themselves? Yes. They really, really pay for themselves for employers who get the benefits of cheap labor while schooling, healthcare, etc. are paid for by the rest of us. Overall, illegals benefit society more than they cost us.
Not only do Democrats have the votes, they want the Schumer Shutdown. All of this talk about how well the economy and Trump's tax cuts are doing has to stop, so it's Schumer Shutdown time.
Don't hold your breath. He and his pals are hoping to find some way of getting public support for deporting DACA kids and blaming Democrats.
Actually, I hope these dizzy, hyperliberal morons DO shut down the government! What a story to bring to the November elections -- "We just knew that you wanted us to put the interests of ILLEGAL ALIENS first, above the interests of citizens of the United States, so, we shut down the government so show our commitment to this vitally important issue, and to stick a finger in Trump's eye!" . "We've got the Welfare Vote. Now we just need the "immigrants"...."
I really wish you guys would think for 2 seconds before spreading right wing propaganda talking points. Democrats can do absolutely nothing to stop this bill from passing.
Here is what democrats are demanding for DACA. Nothing in return: phantom border security, chain migration visas merely shifted temporarily among categories of relatives, & diversity lottery visas permanently locked in. And don't forget amnesty for 400k TPS recipients!
I'm on the fence about DACA in general and I can see both sides, but I don't think we should keep any DACA with criminal records or who are on welfare.
I'm baffled by the Democrats position on this. DACA is one thing, but chain migration, diversity lottery, and thumbing their noses at border security, wtf are they thinking? These should be no-brainers, they aren't things that really even fall into a "gray area" category. It's almost like the Democrats wait for the Republicans to pick a position and then they simply say "okay, we want the exact opposite". This is the partisan politics bullsh*t that's so frustrating.
SNIP But in 2013, Trump called into “Fox & Friends” to say then-President Barack Obama was responsible for a government shutdown. He said whoever is president when the federal apparatus is shuttered should be blamed. “It always happens to be the top. I mean, the problems start from the top and have to get solved from the top,” Trump said then. “The president is the leader, and he’s got to get everybody in a room and he’s got to lead.” ENDSNIP https://www.rollcall.com/news/politics/shutdowns-trump-thought-pressure-president Funny when the shoe is on the other foot, huh, Donnie..... However ironic that statement is, the Congress is way better off WITHOUT him directly involved... Put something on his desk tonite.... He WILL sign it.... call his bluff!!
America's commies are siding with the invaders over the brave and selfless men and women who protect us from them. treason. #BringBackGallows
Imbeciles. Pandering to the lunatic fringe "progressive" base worked so well for Democrats in the 2016 presidential election, why not do it again? Then again, the lunatic fringe "progressive" base has become the mainstream of the Democratic party... Schumer Shutdown: Senate Democrats Brag About Having Votes to Shut Down Government via Filibuster https://townhall.com/tipsheet/guybe...pending-bill-to-keep-government-open-n2436857 There's so much to be amused about here. Lyin' & Cryin' Chuck Schumer's speech on the Senate floor, assuming the position of legislative arsonists, anarchists and terrorists holding the country hostage, the willingness to put illegal aliens before American citizens, etc., but I can't help but be amused at the masochistic spectacle of the party of Big Government shutting the government down. Not only are they going to have to explain what you're talking about but they're going to be reminding Americans just how unessential much of the federal government is and how irrelevant it is to so many Americans and their lives. On top of that, they're going to be reminding working Americans how so many Federal workers get paid to do nothing. I'm with ya - I hope Democrats throw themselves on their swords and shut down the government.
Our resident lefties aren't doing so well with this issue. http://www.politicalforum.com/index...-the-government.524054/page-4#post-1068563599
And they need those 60 votes because they already used reconciliation on the Tax giveaway earlier this year.
time for you to go back to school and relearn basic civics it takes 60 voters to pass a spending bill republicans only have 51 seats in the senate
I've heard there are now 6 Rep Senators voting No (or not voting).... 5 below.... who is #6?? McCain (Not in town) Graham Rounds Flake Paul
Democrats do not want a compromise, there is no reason they should be using children to get their way.
