I think you will find this is a requirement in many states.

Let look at this clearly and logically for a minute. In order for a mass murder to occur in our schools, committed by young people, you need two basic things. A mentally ill individual and a gun. And if you want the kill rate higher, you would not see a 6 shooter being used, logically. A higher capacity magazine would be needed, except for a highly skilled shooter. And I think that is the foundation of the problem.

So, how to address it, while understanding that you can never stop such shootings from happening by new laws. You might reduce the number, but it would require spotting and addressing these mental conditions while the kids were in school. And then there must be a state of the arts effective program to do what it takes with these mentally ill young people.

There is only so much laws can do at the point of sale for firearms. It is already rather stringent as it is. And of course, no law will get rid of the black market. Never has, never will. For total control is just impossible although many regimes have worked hard for it.

As time goes on, if it looks like most school shootings are done with the semi auto military knock offs, with higher capacity magazines, we could impose a ban on them and then compare stats to see if it actually helped. Make an effort to track it. If it helped, then keep it, if not, get rid of it. Trial and error, which is what an intelligently run gov't would do.

Spending the money on mental health will never be done. And I wonder if what was done to the mental institutions during reagan has had any effect on mass shootings? Increasing them? I know the change in laws in regards to what it takes to get one committed has changed and it is much harder today to do this. And of course if other states are like mine, when the federal funding for mental hospitals was cut, perhaps to the bone, we lost these hospitals, and the one we have left is only a fraction of what it once was.

Having programs in schools where kids are closely watched with the ability to take action if warning signs arise, would cost money. Which means it will never be done. And so the left will continue to cry about gun control, even destroying the right to bear arms, and the right and the NRA will continue their stance and nothing will be done. Going after the cause of these horrible events is what intelligence would do, and yet clearly there isn't that kind of intelligence in DC.

The trouble is, when you spend so much on maintaining hegemony, with hundreds of bases spanning the globe, and waging perpetual war for perpetual peace, protecting citizens from threats at home, our mentally ill who can get guns, just isn't important. So, these events get used as political theater, getting the rubes riled up on both sides, with the next election being the major thing on the minds of our politicians. Everything is turned into politics. Nothing gets done.

So you put this off on single moms eh? It is their fault eh? This school had kicked the burgening leftist out of the school already. He continued to spew hatred and threaten things ( hence the burgeoing
leftist comment) and nothing was done. So now it is a single moms fault (She had died before this happened by the way) RME

Everyone in the school who knew about him, and did nothing about it other than send him to another school.

Even the FBI knew about him, just like the Pulse shooter.

When you get voted "Most Likely to Commit a School Shooting" and no one does anything.....that's what's insane.

Sure, when they are physically or organically impaired. I have no argument with that.

My argument is with 'environmental' (aka, bad parenting) psychological damage. That is the purview of its creators .. parents.

Fetuses are not human beings in the legal sense, partially because they are not living in the scientific sense in that they are unable to live on their own even if given access to the necessary resources.

Let me know when you convict a woman of homicide after they get an abortion.

I know that it is a requirement in several states - around a dozen, I believe. I think it is a system that should be adopted nationwide.

Wow for someone who has legal in his name, you seem ignorant of the fact that all homicides are not illegal.

Oh I am well aware of that fact. But the individuals who commit those legal homicides are usually still indicted, but only later to be found not guilty by reason of self-defense, for example.

But the fact remains is that an abortion is not even a homicide because the fetus is not a human being, under the legal definition.

It’s really not all the mentally ill now, you have to take into consideration that we have people in this society who are over the top mean to others which can drive them to a series of events.

Maybe mentally ill is the case, but those drug addicts who go to rehab and relapse proves it’s not a sure fix.

We need to actually work on better relations with people rather than making the environment more toxic, and sadly it’s too later for those people who are 16+ but it’s not too late for children to learn bullying and saying and doing things like social groups are not right.

Not referring to equality for genders or etc like LGBTQ but for people to just stay in their own lane and not be teased for being themselves.

There will always be angry, resentful people, some as a consequence of actual ill-treatment, some due to paranoid delusion. Whether we allow those people to take advantage of the nation's permissive firearm laws, or allow Americans to protect their children against such individuals is the cogent question. The status quo had repeated proven itself tragically wanting.

Prohibition proved one can't legislate morality. Laws do not prevent someone from doing whatever crime he wants to do either. We have laws against robbery, murder, speeding, driving while intoxicated, drug laws, immigration laws, if someone wants to do whatever, they do it.

The thing I think gets over looked is I think society has taken a wrong path. I grew up in the 1950's, an era before any gun control laws, registration or what ever. Yet, nothing like this happened. In fact there was but one mass shooting that entire decade. Society was completely different back then. Some will say worse and some will say better and in certain situations, both are right.

Now it seems as time has gone by, the more gun control laws passed, the more shootings that has taken place. Gun control laws doesn't patch or cover up the ills of society. Back then right was right and wrong was wrong with very little gray area between them. Today, almost everything falls into a gray area. Perhaps there is no right or wrong today?

I do think we'd be better off if we delved deep into our society today to find what changed our society from one with no gun control laws and almost no mass shooting to one with a ton of gun control and a ton of mass shootings. I think we would be better off searching society for the cause of these shootings. for that sickness in our society today that is the reason these things happen so we can cut it out, perhaps even change what we are doing as a society to get back to saner times.

But I doubt we will ever try to find the root causes that causes these shootings in today's society. The easiest way is to pass more gun control and let the sickness fester and grow. There has to be a reason.

As I've said, if that were true, we should be the safest nation in the world given the number of guns out there, and we all know we aren't even close to being the safest nation

The argument is that abortion bans target poor women. You can’t stop *rich* women from getting abortion because they’ll simply travel to get them.

Similarly rich people will be able to afford black market prices for illegal guns, but rich people aren’t usually the ones that conduct mass shootings.

I could accept your comments but someday when you have little to do look up gun homicides by county. You will find that the vast majority are concentrated into a half dozen. Very similar to the lefties telling us Hillary won the election. Remove these few counties and we are among the safest country's in the world.

Asinine, nobody should be able to legally commit homicide at will.

Lemme guess, same list as a few months ago after the Las Vegas shooting.
Maybe there might be a few more.

You mean for instance, the police, who can get away with killing anyone by claiming they felt scared?
