“We buckled,” said Rep. Dave Brat (R-VA) of congressional Republicans’ negotiations on Capitol Hill regarding a $1.3 trillion omnibus appropriations bill scheduled for a vote on Wednesday night.

The Gateway Project — a massive tunnel, bridge, and infrastructure expansion and renovation project encompassing Amtrak’s Northeast Corridor passenger rail service linking Newark, NJ, and New York City, NY, which is estimated to cost approximately $30 billion by federal authorities — had been prioritized over a southern border wall. “Is it true that Chuck Schumer got his tunnel, but we got a pittance for the wall?”

Schumer must be a better negotiator!

“Yeah,” replied Brat. “So far, unfortunately, I have to report that’s the case. So the wall, at the last minute, we’re kind of playing little language games. At the last minute, politically, they’ll rename some of that. The $30 billion tunnel will get renamed probably at the last minute, but we’re not getting twenty or thirty billion for the Trump wall, which he ran on, which the American people clearly voted for – some form of border security – and that’s just the tip of the iceberg.”

Republicans racing to out flop each other to give in to Democrat spending priorities.

The Republican House actually did pretty good work all year, and the Freedom Caucus went along on the basic budget,” said Brat. “The promise was that we’re going to stay with Republican votes the whole way — 218 votes — and you get a win. At the end of the day, usually it happens before Christmas, we call it ‘lighting up the Christmas tree,’ every spending object under the sun gets thrown in, and this year, that’s what’s happening, right now.

They needed nine Democrat Senators to win, so they buckled.

The amount debt we have run up under the last two Presidents is simply unsustainable.

$5T from George Washington to Bill Clinton.
    $5T under Bush.
    $10T under Obama.

This has to stop! The same folks that want to give away our manufacturing, throw open our borders and flood us with migrants are the same folks that want to spend with abandon.

These guys have one purpose, keep pushing the gravy train, keep taking their fat juicy cut.

Republicans only pretend to care about the debt when the president is a democrat. Isn’t that obvious by now?

I think there are a lot of pointless spending items in the bill.

Yea a lot of bogus spending that reeks of pork.

Like what is this nonsense about paying States incentives for NICS checks?

They're going to get money to do something the fkin law requires them to do in the first place???

    What a scam.

And did you see the $100 million a year for "school safety" to instruct teachers to "recognize warning signs"?

That's exactly what those teachers, parents, and students at Stoneman Douglass did ...and it didn't mean ****all since the FBI sat on the info.

And a billion dollar AMTRAK payday that unions are just in love with since that money is going to go directly into their pockets and what we'll get out of it is 10% of the tunnel built before they come back asking for more.

Oh and "election security" spending ...this one is rich ...I can tell you that the vendors are going nuts over this one.

Going to government and saying "hey buy this, you don't need it, but its new" is already an easy enough thing for IT consultants - now the line is "this will protect you from Russians please pay 5000% over market value' ...they pay it.

61% of Republicans voted yes, 57.8% of Democrats voted yes - in other words Republicans liked this bill a bit more than Democrats did. Clearly more Republicans proportionately voting yes than Democrats is Obama's fault......LOL.

And yes, the moron will sign it.....

If Trump signs this boondoggle there will be a lot of very angry people and, if the Republicans can't get the situation under control, who will?

But he didn't run on getting twenty or thirty billion in funding from taxpayers in order to fund the wall. He explicitly ran on the basis that Mexico was going to pay for the wall.

He has been in office for about 14 months now and has not taken a single step to make Mexico pay for the wall. Even though his campaign website said he would take executive action (wouldn't require any legislation) on DAY ONE of his presidency.

There is no reason that either Republicans or Democrats should vote for funding for the wall - it was not what the American people voted for.

They aren't required to do that. The NRA sued the government to make sure it was voluntary.

Its not going to please the base

But republicans in congress will be the first to die politically

They won back the house in 2010 by promising to repeal obamacare

Then in 2014 the repubs said they needed the senate also before they could do what the voters wanted

And after getting their majority they did very little

Not nothing - but certainly very little because they said obama’s veto pen was too powerful

Now they have all the power and democrats are still writing the budget bills

I agree 100%, GOPe is flame torching the party because they're not happy that Jeb or Kasich didn't get the nomination. So be it, we were in a socialist society anyway. Now Ovomit gets to complete his task, hell they may even put Ovomit back in as President like Putin.

Only if you want to talk about private party sales or transfers, which is not what the payoff is limited to.

Dems still scream about Reagan, but go mute when Obama's bills are totaled up.

Want to try again, or should we agree there is a problem in general?

At what point will Congress grow a pair and do something about non-discretionary spending?

The bill does not fund a border wall (at least not in our country, it funds a wall for Jordon) and increases H1B visas to take jobs from Americans. Trump MUST veto this bill or he is a one term President.

The Ominous Spending Bill is 1000 pages thicker than the Gutenberg Bible, and it's in Latin, too.

To be fair, Trump didn't say that he'd get the money from Mexico to build the wall. He said he'd build the wall, and Mexico will pay for it. In other words, Mexico is the reason we have to build the darn wall. So one way or another Mexico is gonna pay. Trump is right when he says these countries take advantage of America. They do....big time.

Who cares if he is right. I am sick of funding republican wars and hero soires into other nations. I am not ok with one more red cent of my tax dollars going to another republican lie.

Trump said Mexico pays for the wall. Skew it all you like to make it fit, but he said it.

Make it happen, Prez, or you're a ****ing fraud.

His campaign website set out very clearly how he was going to get the money from Mexico.
He said he was going to start taking action to get the money on DAY ONE of his presidency. The website used this exact words: day one.
His proposal consisted entirely of executive action (no input from Congress required) and was designed to pressure Mexico into handing over cash.

14 months later and he hasn't taken a single step to get the money from Mexico. Which his campaign website said he would do.
