now that communism is dead there should be no basis for anyone to claim asylum. Refugees should stay in UN camps near their homes so they can return to their previous lives at some future date. We don't want them.

I wish I shared your optimism. I have studied dictatorships coming to power my whole life and have not seen anything like this in America before, though it is commonplace in the rest of the world

I'm globally not very optimistic, but Donald Trump doesn't seems to me to be a dictator, a populist yes, but a dictator no. It's different kind of people.

Right now, nobody is starving in the USA, the country is safe (a little bit violent, but if you look in the world, USA are globally good, maybe the most violent country for a developped country, but still safer than a lot of poor country).

Let's see how some dictatorship appeared :
Hitler : people were simply starving in Germany and extremly poor.
Napoleon : The country was at siege and in civil war.
Pinochet : the economy started to get nut, a lot of people were threatened in an economic way.
Communism in Russia : people were starving and dirty poor in Russia.
Franco : It's a little bit more complicate.

Right now, not people enough are starving in the USA or get their life threatened for a dictatorship to appear. A lot of people would have a lot to loose in a change of regime.
