    Cool beans!

I still get the H-46 and H 47 models confused

One has tricycle gear and the othe quad, but I can never remember which has which.

"Were you just transiting on the aircraft carrier or a special op?"

We were tasked with evacuating the US Embassy during the Nicaraguan revolution.

It turned out that we weren't needed, so we ended up being on a month-long Caribbean cruise. But we did make some minor military history. The powers that be, classed it as a combat zone. Thus one of our Crew-Chiefs became the first woman deployed to a combat zone in modern history.

The other action, of any note, that we engaged in, I was lucky enough to have not been involved with. Others had to go pick up the Jonestown kool-aid drinkers after three days of lying in the tropics. I heard it was a rugged experience.

The 46 is the little brother to the 47. It's nickname is(was) the Phrog because it sits like one.

PS, the spelling of "Phrog" dates to Vietnam when it first flew in combat. F-4 drivers called themselves Phantom Phlyers so Ch-46 pilots called themselves Phrog Phlyers to give them crap.

Hah! No, but that movie definitely freaked out a lot of people. There weren't a lot of people in the water that summer. And I did feel a little more... aware. One day I had a large fish run into my leg and I about jumped out of my skin! :D

That same summer, a large great white, only a foot or two shorter than the one in the movie, was caught near Catalina Island. That really freaked people out because that was in our own backyard.

A few years back I was working on the spotlight 29 casino expansion down in the Coachella valley when it hit 121 or 122. It’s F’n relentless. It actually took me down. I was hydrated, just pouring water down but it got me. I had to sit in my truck for about a half an hour with A/C blowing until that weird semi dream state subsided before I even attempted to drive home. I was working down in Oceanside the week before, right by the ocean so I wasn’t acclimated.

Been there done that. I know. It is overwhelming. I spent a summer setting up mobile homes, in Northern CA. It was normal to have daily temps in excess of 100 degrees. But one day we were working in the hills near a town called Concow. It was about ten degrees hotter up there than down in town, and when we got back to town the thermometer said 125. It has to be wrong but it was up there for sure. I can only guess at the actual temp where we were in Concow. But it probably was legitimately over 120 degrees. As hot as it was in town, it had to be!

I spent the day putting a shiny metal roof on the mobile - a large double-wide with a tag. I had to come down about every 15 minutes for water. If you forgot and grabbed a tool with your bare hand you instantly burned and blistered. And I don't remember much more than that. I think I was delirious and fighting heat sickness most of the day. I've done some hard jobs before but that day was definitely one of the worst ever.

Ran a jack hammer on rock all day in 110 degree heat once. That was bad.

Yes. After being sprayed, each person had to run an obstacle course and the detain a "suspect". In many instances as an MP or police officer, you accidentally get sprayed by your partners spray and you have to know how to act with the extreme pain.

    My sinuses feel amazing though

Remember the gas chamber in basic?
I f’d up with the “walk out in an orderly fashion” instructions. Nope, when it was my turn to exit it was full sprint. Now I’m 6’05” and then was 225#, I hit our little 5’9 150# 1st sgt full speed with my shoulder, he went down, I went over him, as soon as I was outside someone grabbed me, made me put my mask back on and put me right back into the front of the line.
    That sucked.
