The next Cup is in Qatar, so that might work in 2022.

However, I'd like to see the tournament go full-elimination in 2026 when it expands to 48 teams...:twocents:

I think England can go all the way to the World Cup Final. England fought the match against Belgium with substitute players to give star players a rest.

I was being facetious of course. Imagine Lowe picks Klinsmann as his assistant lol. The USSF will not hire another German coach, especially not one with ties to Klinsmann. In any case Earnie Stewart will most likely select an American coach. He did play with Tab Ramos back in the day so that could be a possibility. My lean is Jessie Marsch but unfortunately that would be a severe blow for the NY Red Bulls.

Thank you but I should be at 93.75% if Germany did their usual thing, just awful!

Now, that would be hilarious.

I've heard Ramos and Peter Vermes are the favorites. Marsch would be a solid pick...

Yup - Germany topped my Most Disappointing Team list on June 18 and they're staying there.

Funny thing, the first two played for the NY MetroStars and Marsch is coach of the NY Red Bulls. Just a little piece of MLS trivia. I also heard rumblings about Juan Carlos Osorio, who was one of the worst coaches the NY Red Bulls ever had. He would be a disaster IMO.

First weekend of the Knockout round is over and here are my thoughts:

    1) My favorite underdogs to hoist the Cup - Uruguay and Croatia - made it through
    2) I'm glad I don't have to watch Spain play again (thank you Russia)
    3) Les Bleus finally showed up - The Kylian Mbappé Show was fantastic

I heard that James Rodriguez of Colombia does not have a serious injury and may play against Team Sandbagger (England) tomorrow. Not sure if he'll be effective or how long he'll last but I'll settle for a hat trick.

what's the difference between a teabag and the German team?

a teabag stays in the Cup longer!

My favorite line from this year's Cup is "Germany is a machine"...

great match congrats to Japan for not playing like england and russia fighting right to the end losing with only 10 seconds left in injury time coming just seconds after Japan nearly won it on a free kick...

I was entertained, can't ask for more than that...

    What was your favorite, Paris?

I'm gonna go out on a limb and guess France vs. Argentina...

That was quite a comeback by Belgium. They looked snakebit until Vertonghen got that crazy header to break the ice. After that the dam broke on Japan.

Belgium vs. Brazil on Friday may be better than the final...

Best game to me was Spain vs Portugal.

I also liked France vs Argentina, but being French I expect a lot more from them. Griezmann and Pogba weren't good enough. Only Varane, Kanté and of course Mbappé were up to the task.

Seriously. Sure hope we don’t have to wait for Uruguay or France to put us out of our misery on that front.

The quarter-final matchups are shaping up to be fantastic! Hoping for Switzerland over Sweden, but I’ll take Colombia or England if they’re playing in top form. Wish Peru had come out of Group C instead of Denmark, but overall it’s been a fun tourney!

For the first time ever, we have VAR, so no more 'Hands of Gods' getting in England's way.

I want England to be the one who knocks Russia out of the World Cup for the Salisbury nerve agent and I want England to win the World Cup in Russia for the same reason. I want England to do this and win a World Cup in my lifetime & to do it after Team GB came 2nd in the Olympics in 2016, and with Brexit coming up too.
Gareth Southgate, if he pulls this off, he'd have made up for France '98.

    England has
    Justice - VAR
    Revenge - Salisbury
Legacy - Team GB finishing #2 in Rio
    Vindication - Gareth Southgate
    Pride - Brexit
    to play for and win.

All is riding on this World Cup.

I think England could win it now that they use VAR tbh.

Gives England a fair chance, which makes all the difference...
That said, I'm hoping on Columbia being easy lol England couldn't even beat Belgium, but...
World Cup in Russia, Russia and England still in to the knock out stages, Salisbury; I want England to knock Russia out in Russia and win the World Cup in Russia.
