One in four troops sees white nationalism in the ranks

Black soldiers were treated worse than many German POWs during WWII and came back home to Jim Crow segregation after serving their country.

 

What is amazing is how someone who has never served could refute would people who have served are saying about their experiences when it comes to the Klan in the service.

 

It's a common term used by white supremacists against those who are not considered white. How old are you? I'm guessing under 30 (hedging my bet) but probably under 25.

 

If it said "no signs of white nationalism in the military" I'm guessing you'd never have a problem with the numbers.

Despite the comments of our far Right Wing extremists, as proved earlier, the Military Times is a right wing publication. Even the Stars & Stripes is more centered.

You can quibble about the other stuff but the sample size is fine. In fact virtually all polls fall within the 1000-2000 range and that is overkill.

 

Racism, or more accurately bigotry, has always existed in every group of people, some more than others. That's not the problem. The is when the bigots organize and act in direct opposition to the goals of, in this case, the US military. It doesn't matter if the group is white nationalists, the Muslim Brotherhood or any other group that oppose the US Constitution, it's dangerous to the integrity of those who've sworn an oath to support and defend the Constitution and must be rooted out.

 

Are you saying you were unaffected by your experience in the military? It was life changing for me. And it did make changes within me.

I see you declined to answer my simple question to you, is it safe to say that you do believe that the military is full of white supremacists?

 

Agreed about the civilian world and about the camaraderie of the Marine Corps. That said, in my service career, I've seen a few race-based incidents.
Usually alcohol was involved.

25% of our military as white nationalists is a problematic claim considering by all accounts actual white nationalists in general are fairly rare.

Sounds like a minimum of 25% of our forces to me if one out of four observers can point to alt right troops.

I posted the mediabiasfact check link not as an argument but just because someone mentioned "Stars and Stripes."

Before the internet and when serving in the U.S. military usually in some shithole country "Stars and Stripes"was your only source for the news along with "Armed Forces Radio." How many Vietnam vets remember their small transistor radio wrapped in electrical tape to protect it from the elements ?

My first exposure to "Stars and Stripes" was in 69 in Vietnam.

I always looked at "Stars and Stripes" as being a military propaganda rag.

The problem with "Stars and Stripes" is the censorship and the "Stars and Stripes" was doing a whole lot of censorship when Obama was in the White House.
"Stars and Stripes" office is located in the Pentagon that is run by civilians.

When my sister would send me the Sunday "L.A. Times" in the mail by the time it reached me it was a month old but I was the most popular Marine on the hill.

Military Times...actually "Army Times," "Navy Times." "Marine Corps Times" and "Air Force Times" is read by military families.
Those in combat arms really don't have the time to indulge in this military rag.

I subscribed to "Marine Corps Times" during the 70's and 80's just to keep up with what was going on in the crotch.

Military Times have been conducting polls for a couple of decades now and they went as far to break down how the troops were polled by breaking it down by branch of service, age, pay grade, race and ethnicity and gender.

Who voted for Obama in 2008 ? mostly E-1's to E-3's, blacks, Hispanics and women.
Sailors, then airmen then soldiers and Marines coming in last.

Military Times was threatened by the Obama White House to stop revealing how the troops voted by pay grade, race and gender.

Two questions that are asked during the annual polling is...
***** approval rating as President of the United States ?
***** approval rating as Commander in Chief ?

To put it this way, Obama had the lowest approval rating as CnC in history.

 

Might as well bring it out into the open.

Sane and sensible Americans see all racism is evil. Only racists see it as something to be proud about.

 

Think of it this way. Say you poll a Company consisting of 4 platoons of 25 guys each. One platoon has an outspoken, hood wearing, cross burning klan member and that entire platoon can point at him in response to observing white supremacist behavior. That works out to 1 in 4 members of that Company seeing white supremacy in the ranks, and then you come along and say out of the 100 guys in the company 25 of them are white supremacists.

Better?
