One in four troops sees white nationalism in the ranks

White Nationalism (and its predecessors) have long been a concern in the military. Even when I was in during the 80s and 90s we were rooting out Klan members who'd joined to gain military training.

It's bad when average Americans fall for extremist anti-Constitutional political movements such as Antifa, Socialism and White Nationalism, but it's worse when those groups infect our government and our military.

This poll was reported last October, but there should be little doubt the problem remains:

Nearly one in four troops polled say they have seen examples of white nationalism among their fellow service members, and troops rate it as a larger national security threat than Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan, according to a new Military Times poll.

The troops were surveyed about one month after white supremacist groups and counter-protesters clashed in Charlottesville, Virginia.

Critics of Trump have accused him of emboldening groups who wish to discriminate against minorities, through both his public comments and policies.

Trump has said he opposes racism in all forms.

In the wake of the Charlottesville riot, senior military leaders repeatedly emphasized that threats or discrimination against minorities is against service values. The Military Times poll findings show that the armed forces aren’t exempt from the debate.

Concerns about white nationalist groups were more pronounced among minorities in the ranks. Nearly 42 percent of non-white troops who responded to the survey said they have personally experienced examples of white nationalism in the military, versus about 18 percent of white service members.

When asked whether white nationalists pose a threat to national security, 30 percent of respondents labeled it a significant danger, more than many international hot spots, like Syria (27 percent), Pakistan (25 percent), Afghanistan (22 percent) and Iraq (17 percent).

But a notable number of poll participants also bristled at the assertion that white power ideology is a real problem.

Nearly five percent of those polled left comments complaining that groups like Black Lives Matter — whose stated goal is to raise awareness of violence and discrimination towards black people — weren’t included among the options for threats to national security.

The poll did include unspecified “U.S. protest movements” and “civil disobedience” among the potential threats to America. But respondents’ concerns about those issues fell well short of the perceived white nationalist threat.

Singling out white supremacist groups irritated some of the troops surveyed.

“White nationalism is not a terrorist organization,” wrote one Navy commander, who declined to give his name.

“You do realize white nationalists and racists are two totally different types of people?” wrote another anonymous Air Force staff sergeant.

More than 60 percent of troops who took the survey said they would support activating the National Guard or reserves to handle civil unrest arising from white nationalist activities like the Charlottesville event. In Charlottesville in August, Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe declared a state of emergency and activated the Virginia National Guard to help with crowd control and to deter violence.....

So this is an article from October of LAST year in the current events section, about a poll with a sample size of 1,131, which was conducted after a racially charged incident, claiming that 42% of non-whites in the military "have personally experienced examples of white nationalism", vs ONLY 18% for whites, that doesn't even describe exactly what "an example of white nationalism" is.

File this one in the cabinet that makes flushy sounds.

The Media keeps banging the drum, and Fake news called calling a woman a dog is racist. If you are perceived as a white male, you are racist, regardless of the truth.

 

Not surprised, generation after generation has been taught from K-12 that they are victims of oppression, bigotry and prejudice with the full endorsement of government.

Also of note....what is white nationalism? What standard applies? The race card is a very powerful tool when in the context of the UCMJ/EO and is used as a sword in some circumstances that the civilian sector will never experience.

Our own DOD collective and policies are very hypersensitive in nature and it does not take much to get caught up in it.

Back in the late 80's early nineties I had a very good friend, He was a SFC and I a SSG. In a BN training meeting prior to NTC deployment my friend made a Joke and stated that he invited me over for Christmas to make sure his children would have a white Christmas, now this was damn funny among the brass, CSM, my friend and me all laughed, yes my friend was black and I am white, I took no offense after all he is the Godfather to my son, and his friendship is a honor to this day.

Today, this kind of joke in a formal setting would not fly in our military. A harmless joke is now offensive and will be punished. Everyone is a victim has crossed over from the civilian sector and has contaminated a well oiled machine.

What MOS did these "klan members" join? I was in the Infantry in the 80's and didn't run into not a single solitary klan member. Every one was green as far as we were concerned.

Since Monday every time I referred to my dog as a dog my dog looks at me as if I were a racist.

Six days and counting since the PC left has politicized dogs and the word dog is now a derogatory racist word.

Well when you introduce something into an environment it will have an effect but the effect will be diminishing to the point where the effect is not even noticeable.

It is time to introduce something new that leasing's are struggling with is that accusing people of being bigots or Nazis or homophobes is the same thing.

Military Times became politicized during the Obama administration.

As the story goes the Obama White House threaten Military Times if they published some polling results of Obama's approval ratings as Commander in Chief that Military Times would be denied access to military bases and the military in general.

Military Times not having any cajones caved in to the Obama White House.

23 years and I never came across Klan, Nazi's or anything like that in the Army. So I'm suspicious of this "poll."
