the ATF's own literature admits the purpose was not revenue collection but a defacto ban

I love it. 68% of cops in gun-hating Connecticut are on the list of those refusing to comply with the new gun laws. Imagine what those numbers look like in places where 80 or even 90% of the cops would refuse to comply with such a law... and tell me how much luck you'd have convincing them to take part in a door-to-door gun confiscation. Oh, wait! That's right: the gun banners all think the cops would follow the directive to confiscate guns! <snicker>

Yep. When the NFA of '34 was enacted a Thompson submachinegun was $120 through the Sears catalog. Why would anyone purchase a gun it was going to cost them twice what it was worth just to register it? Especially when $200 was a substantial piece of one's annual income??

The NFA should never have been allowed to stand.

dunno about today but know for a fact that for many years, cops were the first ones to demand that guns be banned as they were among the principle victims of gun violence

yes, you are correct. ex post facto. however, we citizens have allowed the state to enact in such a manner from time to time. not saying its ok, just stating a fact.

When I was a member of the NRA back in the 1960s, the majority of police favored gun control legislation. They were among the groups that lobbied California to pass the Mulford Act signed by Reagan who took away guns in that state in 1968.

I'm not sure that total bans of assault rifles needs to happen. From what I understand, they are fairly hard to obtain legally and the legally obtained ones are used in crimes rarely. As long as that remains true, as long as it stays the same or they get harder, not easier, to obtain, a total ban is not necessary.

That depended on where you were in the country, and the politics of a given region. It also was driven by a lot of police chiefs who were political appointees who were parroting the demands of those who appointed them as opposed to the true beliefs of their rank and file.

Notoriously anti-gun jurisdictions like New York and California were the most egregious offenders.

My grandfather was a cop for 40 years in the desert Southwest, and he and his fellow officers would have (and did) oppose gun control in all forms fervently and passionately. It was, in fact, my grandfather whose beliefs heavily influenced my own.

the problem with new yourk and california is the politicians there have people believing the solution toe crime is getting guns off the street when they are the ones who refuse to get the thugs off the street. oh, chicago too. the police chief there finally took a stand saying that judges who put violent criminals back on the street are the problem for the good citizens and the cops.

Exactly. For decades the political elites in these big cities have fought to restrict the rights of the people while doing little or nothing to address the real issues of crime and violence.

it's very insidious as well. if they actually put violent criminals away for long periods of time, the prison population would look like, well let's just say "not the brady bunch." it's a subtle psychology that seeks to deemphasize the high levels of violence in minority communities, instead trying to shift blame to a set of tools.

gun control circa 1966, was an effort by the Democrat Party to pretend it was doing something about street crime without upsetting its important and large black constituency

The Left and the Juden will make everything by their powers to ban all carbines, rifles and then handguns and put the American people on their knees. Something like Australia and England is already on the horizon.

The main purpose is to have a nation full of inbred morons, sellout Latino/Arab or other moron voters, a population that is easily malleable; drones that consume more and are happy to produce more by either stealing or working their way to death.

Marriages are no longer actual but rather obsolete. Modern feminism (a very sick and twisted version of the normal Feminism) and SJWs are on the rise. Betas are getting higher in the business hierarchy.

And top that off with MK ULTRA false flag shootings. The formula is full for their success.

All those guns in Texas sure didn't stop the crazed Micah Xavier Johnson and make it safer for anyone.

Actually, the majority of police in those days demanded gun control. Then it was Republican Reagan who signed the Mulford Act.
