What does he think about you? I spent time in East Berlin when communism was the government. I saw myself the damage to that part of Berlin. The West was amazing in how nice it became after the war did so much damage to Berlin. A people that lived under Soviet oppression more than likely has a lot of people happy not to be oppressed. There is no doubt that prior to Hitler, Germans had a powerful urge not to suffer and the urge to live some kind of nice life. Hitler had policies that made life for Germans a huge improvement. The soviets did not particularly want Germany to succeed. We see americans posting to Sobos who also do not want Germany to succeed. If you live in the USA now, you can tell that some Americans treat Germans very poorly. They judge you all by Hitler and less by the Soviets. My German fiance lived in Berlin and she and her parents lived in East Germany prior to moving to West Berlin. Her father was the city mayor of an East German town. And he owned his business there selling lumber, coal and more than that. He owned a car. When he saw others in his town that owned businesses and homes, and they were taken from them by the East German government, he know he could not own his home and business for much longer. So they sent money to West Berlin and then left East Germany, each by different ways trying to not look suspicious. They had friends in West Berlin and that helped them. He borrowed money in West Berlin and had a good live owning a clothes cleaning shop. That is where i met my fiance. She published in the Berlin paper we were going to marry. Things changed when I got back to America and we never got married. I did try to learn a lot about life under communism from all of them. Americans here do not really understand Germans at all. I had money in Germany and i traveled a lot there.

That is the problem summed up. As a "liberal" you might have made an excellent person that would live in East Germany. Americans do not understand how lousy East Germany was. It was robbed by the Soviets after WW2 ended. And it was a huge burden to West Germany after the Soviets left Germany when the Berlin wall was removed. The money exchange rate was in favor of the West German side. The Soviets really were not willing to make Germany prosperous. And the younger you are, the less you see war damage. Sobos is younger than you are by 26 years. That also makes a difference.
The union won but they did the wrong thing. I compare the Union to the government of England when George Washington fought for years to defeat England. Had France refused to help him, we might fly the flag of England here.
