The Democrats will never allow CA to secede because they know they cannot win the WH w/o it.

You have America pretty well split in half today. The left has east of the Appalachian Mountains, west of the Rockies and a couple of island states around the great lakes. The rest pretty much belongs to the right.

MMC attacks personality as his defense of his points becomes degraded.

Please don't. Pay attention to the other side's points.

No one has ever been serious about seceding because of Trump. They would remove Trump before seceding. You throw out the baby not the bathwater.

most unions don't last, the usa being an exception because it was set up to allow individual states to make their own laws & governance , albeit within federal guidelines (some have pushed the boundaries). neither party would agree to succession, least of which would be the lib dems because they need all the funding to accomplish their goal... globalization.

as for globalization, the world is getting a 'bird's eye view' of just what that means... totalitarianism. the eu will go down in history as one of the shortest lived unions, peoples are revolting against the few that 'control' everything, not just france but germany as well are on the verge of a revolution against the tyranny...

everyone now, is beginning to see that liberalism actually means totalitarianism, well, everyone but the 'blind deaf & dumb' ;)

Fixations with "leftists" such as Antonin Scalia aside, your need to resort to your ad hominem attacks is likely due to your inability to contest my correctly noting that no state is seriously attempting secession, neither by legislative initiative nor by referendum. It would not be legal.

All those links shows the reality of the situation Natty. Unfortunately for you. They dispute your claim that leftists weren't serious. But I don't mind you making things up as you go along.

If it was the will of the people I most certainly would allow it.

Pardon me for barging into your conversation with MMC, Leatherstocking, but I'm genuinely interested in hearing why you think secession would be illegal. While I don't promote it myself, I've heard some pretty convincing arguments that it is legal/constitutional under the 10th Amendment.

Those leftists like Scalia in your noggin do not impact the reality that you can't seem to handle: There is no state legislature considering an attempt to secede, and no referenda scheduled to consider it - anywhere.

I think it is settled law, and with no state legislature considering it, I expect it will remain so.

Because the court, well after the civil war, said TX never left the union and so was responsible for part of some federal debt.

You are correct in that there is no language, expressed or implied, in the constitution that forbids a state leaving the union, and so, under the 10th, the right to do so is reserved to the state.

    With conditions... like with Brexit
And frankly negotiating those conditions would be much more difficult than brexit.

I think that at the outset....brexit or secession seems so very simple. And anyone who says is not simple is disparaged. But then when it comes to actually working out the details... it is like a very nasty divorce. And, like a very nast divorce, no one comes out very pleased with the results.

They don't have to correlate to Scalia. Who isn't a leftist. You running around and calling Scalia a leftist puts you in with the group of illiberals who distort reality.

Moreover....when your own leftist sources point out your problem with reading and comprehension. Pretty much shows the reality for what it is. No matter how you try to respond. Bottomline, facts are facts. Facts are the reality. Your Opinion unless it sides with reality.....is nothing more than your opinion.

    Here.....more reality for you.

Antonin Scalia. Antonin Gregory Scalia (March 11, 1936 – February 13, 2016) was a Conservative jurist on the Supreme Court of the United States. He was an Associate Justice. Scalia was put on the Court in 1986 by Ronald Reagan and was the longest-serving justice on the Court.

Now that you have been schooled. I will leave it to others on the Right to continue that schooling.

Secession is against the law. Scalia thought secession was against the law.
